Anyone test drove the new skyline?

Does anyone have compliance for the V35 yet in aussie?> -
I've had the integra before and one thing i dont like abt it is that they are fairly noisy. Becos of the revvy engine, low torque and short gearing, at motorway speeds you're cruising at abt 3500rpm, which makes for alot more noise than normal cars. Plus becos its a hatch u will get more noise intrusion from the boot area, in the end, u will find that you have to turn up your stereo alot louder than other cars just to listen, thats my biggest quibble. In terms of everyday drivability i dont like the fact that i have to row through the gears so much becos of the lack of torque, sure the shifts are brilliant, but when u do it everyday through start stop traffic, it dosent become so fun anymore. Interior wise they are pretty good and the ergonomics are great, but overall, for someting so expensive, there are alot of other cars that do just as well if not better.

Presige Motorsport
usuckpoo replied to dmx_121's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Hi Guys, May i just ask that with regard to modifications on a car greater than 15 yrs old, the issue of modifications only come into play when registering the car for on road use? i.e Dotars will permit a modified car to enter the country, and the issue of modifications will have to be nip picked through with your local state roads authority. The reason i ask is that i have a Lexus IS200 fitted with a non standard 1jz gte which i intend to bring back into australia as a private import. My concern is that the authorities will not permit me to bring the car into the country, or not permit me to register the vehicle since the vehicle is not stock. The problem is that DOTARs makes very little mention of the issue of modifications when it comes to private imports. -
I dont quite understand this part.... u saw some shady dudes lurking downstairs.....you heard the alarm go off...but u didnt tink much of it since it was a python alarm? ermm correct me if im wrong but isnt the purpose of the alarm supposed to alert u when ur car is getting nickked...in this case u did hear the alarm, u did see the dudes...but u tot it would be okie becos its a python alarm?

Hey guys read the part under the header "product" That entire paragraph explaining abt the engine being a sophisticated air pump has been paraphased off another website! It just replaced the words "turbo" with its own product name.

Cops fooked up on my infringement notice
usuckpoo replied to danh's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Someone once told me this *trick* im not sure if it works but heres how it goes. If u cop a fine (suppose its a speeding fine), and lets suppose the fine is $100 ....write them a cheque for $102....they are supposed to issue u a refund cheque/receipt for $2. The idea here is then to throw that refund cheque away and forget about it. Apparently as long as this refund cheque is not cashed they cannot close the case on this issue and hence although u have paid for your fine, your points will never be deducted because the case has never been closed. Not sure if this works but its just word of mouth. -
Allow me to first state that im not trying to diss you or someting. But i dare state that from your above statement, despite having owned a 98 WRX, u appear to be pretty naive when it comes to the world of performance cars. Both cars are different and appeal to slightly different markets, and also come in slightly different price brackets. So your arguement that because the wrx is cheaper, you can spend more on mods and make it quicker than a gtr, does not hold, because if thats the case, i would advise you to purchase a hyundai accent and spend 50k on it, i will gurantee u it will smoke everyting on the road....F50s included. But in the end, its still a Hyundai. And subconciously part of you contemplates the idea of an R34 simply because u LIKE it, and liking something may or may not always be a logical decision. If u look at lambos...they are pretty much the most impractical car. But pple still buy them cos they LIKE them. So your question poised above is very similar to a 13 yr old asking which car is better....or to put in a similar analogy...where one should pick the slim ****ty chick as his bride, compared to a plum country girl with a good heart. It boils down to personal choice and no one attribute should be a reason for you to decide for either, neither can anyone here make this decision for you because only you know what truely makes you happie. Cheers

video of a Ferrari F355 being thrashed hard
usuckpoo replied to Maxx's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Thats cos they fly an engineer out to your place to service the car. when u buy the car it also comes with a complete rack of tools. If major service is needed they will fly the car back to woking to carry out the work. -
Man, some people don't learn
usuckpoo replied to nmcmahon83's topic in General Automotive Discussion
All the hype abt skylines is becos there is a general impression against these cars. If you guys want to effect a change, form an offical lobby group and go public. Guns kill the most pple in the US every year but it will never be outlawed....why? becos the gun lobby groups are strong and have a significiant presence -
Car has arrived !! == MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
usuckpoo replied to ocean's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Might want to consider dropping the entire engine on its subframe out of the car? since u r going to have to work on the rails anyway -
do you own a 33 or a 32? or a 34? if its a 33/32, it might be more worthwhile to sell the car as a wreck, and get your mate to pay you the amount of money required for a repair or at least the difference btw the mkt value of the car less scrap value. Reason being- given the high cost of repairs here in aussie, the final amount might be more than what u initially paid for the car. i.e cost of r32 - 12k cost of repair - 8k value of wreck(half cut) - 4k might as well write it off and get ur mate to pay you. U can then go look for another car then. After all....bent chassis...even when repaired, might not be as good as new, and u'd have problem selling your car in the future cos pple dont like buying bent cars.

My Xmas pressie - new paint job
usuckpoo replied to oor33sky_'s topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
I reckon u just like to go down straights pretty quick most like mannuals as they really come into play ard the corners and on a circuit/track -
No offense hipster but it might be wise to bite the bullet and let it go at mkt price. I would like to advise using the general rule of thumb of the average asking price of an R33 S1 u see on the market and mebbe adding 1k at most on top of that, regardless of mods or condition. No one here wants to hurt your pride and joy but the reality is, regardless of how immaculate your car may be, no one will pay a 3-4k premium ovr the average asking price for that. The longer u drag this with a mentality that you will not let it go below a certain price, the higher the costs u incur from depreciation, rego, insurance, maintence etc etc. Just an idea of how tings are, i sold my 93 "immaculate" r32 in 2001 for 17.1k Somehow after that the market dropped and my flate mate managed to secure an R33 S1 in reasonable condition (scratches on paint, 170k km) for 14k in 2002. Its hard to see how anyone will pay 18k for an S1 unless of cos, lady luck shines upon u and u manage to secure someone who buys with his heart and not his head. (which is difficult becos r33s are not rare either...infact too common)

Private imports, any one familiar with this process?
usuckpoo replied to usuckpoo's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I understand now that compliance plate holders can only bring cars that are stock and not modified, my primary concern is that they will reject my application to bring the car in upon inspection when the car arrives due to "non standard engine etc etc" and then i'd be left in the deep end becos i cant register the car in any australian state. -
Private imports, any one familiar with this process?
usuckpoo replied to usuckpoo's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Thanks for your advise and experience guys.... appreciate it. GTRV: do u have a rough sum of the total costs of all that u mentioned ? (apart from the cost of the car of cos) I had the impression that personal imports would be subject to alot less redtape/paperwork/regulation to normal impports that require compliance or even a 15 yr old import. Not sure though becos DOTARS site is hard to decipher and they dont seem to respond to emails -
Hi guys, Just tot some guys who have done this before can share their experience with me. I am due to return to OZ land in the later half of 2005. As i have owned the car overseas for more than a year, i understand that i do qualify to bring it back as a private import in which i am not subject to compliance costs. I was just wondering what other costs would i expect to incur to get the car registered for aussie roads? The only major cost currently on my list now is shipping the car back. The complexity here is that the car is modified, and my concern is that the relevant authorities might not permit such vehicles since the current rule of thumb for normal imports is that they have to remain stock. Does this apply to private imports as well? Car in question is a 1999 Lexus IS200.....with a 1jzgte and mannual gearbox conversion. The current registration papers do not reflect the change in engine, or the gearbox conversion.
