Can A Rb20 Push 400Hp(Not Wheel) With A Good Response?
CEF33Y replied to yoshiii335's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Cams probably not, but cam gears i'm hoping, for a bit of improvement ( 500rpm better response, if i'm lucky), have installed them, but need to get back to the tuner to have them adjusted. -
Can A Rb20 Push 400Hp(Not Wheel) With A Good Response?
CEF33Y replied to yoshiii335's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
All comes down to what you think good response is. My RB20 makes 240rwkw (probs 380ish? hp at motor), full boost at 4800rpm. I like it, my mates with SR20's hate it. My result is with mostly stock motor (unopened), turbo (highflowed neo), fuel system, exhaust, cooler and nistune. Still have stock manifolds and airbox. Any RB20 making 400hp wont be doing much below 4000rpm. -
I've got a R34 neo highflow turbo (hypergear) on my RB20. Makes 240rwkw, full boost (20psi) at 4800, pump 98. Could get more response by adjusting cam gears, which i'll do soon. Result is on the last page of the RB20 dyno results.

Wtb: Standard Or Autech F+R Bars
CEF33Y replied to too_much_boost's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Good stuff! Its a nice car. Wish I could help out with the bars, but they are getting rare. Try the classifieds of secretdrift.com.au. Its more of a QLD based forum, but seem to have alot more cefiro's up there -
Wtb: Standard Or Autech F+R Bars
CEF33Y replied to too_much_boost's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Hey man, did you buy Chris's blue cefiro? -
Well, From my understanding, the main advantage of a good ebc is the ability to "tune" the ebc to make the boost do what you want, i.e hold flat to redline, and how it ramps onto boost. If your looking to get everything you can out of your setup I'd think it would be an advantage. But back to your original post, are you unhappy with how the car goes? or do you just want it to make a number? cause the power figures your talking about, I dont see much variance in them, and they're also over two different tuners and two different dyno's. Plus your saying the car feels better now, so whats the issue?

I have a 3 inch metal induction pipe. And one side of the airbox (on the bottom really) has been opened up. Keen to stay with the airbox, but when I go back to play with the cam gears I'll try a pod filter, if it is a noticable gain, I'll use the pod, and make a airbox. I wasn't knocking the turbo in any way, I understand I could could of got better results with a open exhaust (no cat) and better cooler/pipework (its only an ebay core, with home made 2.5 inch piping), but, street car, and I like the stock look. I think 240rwkw is ok result for a RB20 with airbox and normal exhaust on 98 fuel. If I wanted to try the 21U housing, is it something I can swap over Tao? Or do you guys need the turbo back? Whats the cost?

Yeah, should have got a graph with the full x axis, haha. Graph looks good until you read the rpm on the bottom, ha. Was joking with a mate who had his 210rwkw sr20 tuned on same dyno that we should overlay graphs, but they lines probly wouldnt cross Also, bit of feedback, as this is the hypergear thread. I noticed the actuator had been preloaded, and had "17psi" written in marker. One of the first runs, car hit 10psi, then gradually climbed to redline, this was with boost controller (profec b) turned off. So I guess it has been noted previously, to get the most out of it, I'm guessing you really need a EBC, that you can set the gain, and start boost, etc. I almost ran a boost T, not sure if I would have had the same result, but it sure made the tuning easier having a ebc. Also noticed the machining of the rear housing eats into the flange area slightly. This will create a step on most dump pipes. In my case I bought a Just jap bellmouth dump. Common to die grind the edge to smooth out the flow, but in my case the step was around 10mm (!) Im thinking combination of average dump pipe quality and the extra that had been machined due to the highflow. I did die grind it, but still had a decent "hump" and still not happy, I cut away the bottom half of the dump, used half a 3 inch bend and welded that in. Then ground out the flange to suit. So yeah, I'd think most dumps would need at least a die grind to suit this highflow. Overall very happy with the turbo, for the price and "stealth ability" its pretty good.

6 monthly update! having a 2 year old really limits the time in the shed, haha. Finally did some power upgrades. Ended up going with a hypergear 0p6 highflow. Wanted the engine bay to look stock, so decided to stick with a low mount, and went with a highflow to simplify things. Specs, 0p6 highflow Nistune 800cc sards Z32 afm Just jap 3 inch bellmouth dump. (modified, opened up) Profec b boost controller Still run stock coil packs, stock airbox, return flow cooler, engine bay looks the same. Result is pretty laggy but going back to get cam gears played with soon, tuner thinks he can get about 500rpm better response. Also, think I the clutch is on the way out, gave it a decent squirt this morning, and started smelling pretty bad. Its only a excedy HD organic, I was surprised it held on the dyno. Anyway, got a drift day on the 14th of June, keen to get back out there.

Here's the graph. Think the clutch is on the way out, once I fix that, will head back and have a play with the cam gears

Rb20 Turbo Upgrade, All Dyno Results
CEF33Y replied to R31Nismoid's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Graph for result above -
How much can the stock half shaft move inward? Shortening the arm will pull the driveshaft in, just something to check. Maybe an option would be to machine the hub of the wheel, to raise the offset, will give more clearance.
-
Yes the motor is completely unopened, (180000km ish, lol) pretty keen to try adjusting the cam gears, if I can get another 500rpm response i'd be cheering. Was 7.30pm when it got off the dyno, and had a 2.5 hr drive home, had been there since 9am, long day. (not all spent on my car though) Pretty happy with it so far though, liking the power with the stock looking engine bay

Had my rb20 tuned yesterday with Unigroup. OP6 Highflow. 240rwkw, 20 psi, full boost around 4800rpm. 98 fuel. Ran out of time to adjust cam gears, tuner thinks he can get approx 500rpm better response. Car still uses stock r32 airbox, return flow cooler, engine bay looks stock. Comes on hard, is lots of fun to drive. Car makes some cool spool noises from inside Very happy so far. Will post dyno graph up tonight, left it in the car.

Excedy Full Face Organic Power Rating
CEF33Y replied to CEF33Y's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Sounds like a plan, thanks -
Hey guys, so basically I have a excedy heavy duty full face organic clutch, was in the donor car that I used when building my cefiro. Looked new at the time I put motor and box in, has handled a few drift days with no change to bite or pedal feel. Rb20 was probably making at 150rwkw, on a good day. Now I've done some power mods ( hypergear op6 highflow, and supporting mods) guessing result will be 200 to 240 rwkw. Will this clutch at least handle the tune? Or should I upgrade before? Anyone know the power rating of this clutch? Have searched but couldn't find much. Cheers

Yeah my dump needs a lot of work, I'll sort it though. The little rb20 is going to need every bit of help running a op6 high flow, lol
