have you checked to see whether you battery is on its way out? your problem sounded very similar to mine and before thinking of the worse I found out it was just a cracked battery terminal.

hi all ive got an R32 and the HICAS light pops up everytime i drive for awhile. i know it is because its from my after market steering wheel. the question i have is, would hicas also light up if the fluid levels in the radiator and coolant is low...hicas use to light up before because of my aftermarket steering wheel and after driving for ahwhile my engine got cooked because there was a cut in the hose. is there a way to fix hicas lighting up for the steering wheel? i dont want to ignore it all the time because im scared it could be indicating the fluid levels are low. cheers

so would a car mechanic be able to fix this?...and if so how much? thanks
-
hey all another weird problem with my r32. the needle on the factory boost gauge is stuck on 0 and wont move no matter what throttle i give it. the turbo still seems to be working fine and i still have boost. does anyone know how i can fix this? cheers
-
umm...do you think you could explain that a bit more? i dont know much about car mechanics...what is a magnetic clutch? cheers

Hey peoples, I have an R32 gts-t with climate control....now the aircon works like a breeze and cools excellent aswell, however lately it has been playing up. While the a/c is turned on after a while the air goes warm and i mean warm. i dont think its the climate control adjusting the temp because the air coming out is very warm. when i switch it off and turn if on again after awhile it cools great again....does anyone have a clue what needs to be done? is it just a simple re-gassing or something more? cheers

Car wont start, only push start.

i tried it again and it started! i fiddled around with the connections a bit and noticed there was heaps of acid build up on the terminal. but yeah i did forget that the mechanic said to replace the battery as there was a crack so i'll be getting my new battery tomorrow!! -

hey mine wont start either? it was running perfectly fine...the battery seems to be connected properly and there seems to be power in the car because the head unit is working the tt is functioning. But when i turn the key it makes some funny noise like a high pitch sound as if it was coming from the alarm/immobiliser. does anyone know what this could be? -
well it was actually $350....but yeah thats what i got it for
-
thanks thats heaps of help!!

yeah we can pretty much hit any speed we want here...so aslong as the cooling system is ok the RB20DET can handle much anything you give it during a constant period...getting to 180km/h is pretty easy too bad the limiter spoils the fun
-
by the ways how do you remove the rear seats out of the r32? im planning to upgrade the speakers to eclipse 6X9's.
-
yeah the car was doin around the 160+ mark at those revs. i was just a bit worried that sitting on this speed with a turbo engine being only a 2litre might not be good for the RB...however the engine did cope pretty well and at sometimes i would get carried away and hit 180km/h.
-
what did you guys sit on?
-
Hi all, Just wanted to ask a quick question or two...i was wondering if any skyline owners with a RB20DET uses ever travels a fair distance (being at least over a 100km)...what is considered a safe speed to sit on engine wise?....i was just wondering because i sometimes drive my R32 over 240km distance like 4 times a year and i sit on a speed where the engine is revving around 4.5 - 5 revs...is that safe for RB engines?....comments would be apreciated cheers
-
i'd go for a exceedy heavy duty clutch which is around $300...they can withstand a fair load so i guess 180kw should be no problem.
-
received the call i was waiting for from the mechanics and my R32 is ready to go!!! woo hoo cant wait till i can drive it again! (shame though, have to wait till next week for the finance)
-
yeah i did consider it, a new engine original RB20DET which is ready to go is going to set me $3000...and i mentioned RB25 and the mechanic said he would have to source one and would cost an additional 1k ...in my situation rite now im pretty tight on money so im pretty happy just to get back my car...(when walking and public transport is the only means of transport, im pretty desperate to drive anything)
-
the mechanics started on the engine on the weekend and said the engine was cooked! warped head, fried piston rings (i guess you'd expect that when the engine wasn't being cooled whilst doin 180) so i had to go for the next option which was to get a new engine put in which they said should be ready by this week...can't wait walking sux and theres alot of weirdo's on public transport.
-
he said he will get me back early next week, but i did mention it.
-
i got the call back and the two options given to me were: 1. Replace the head gasket & if the damage is serious recondition the head, bore?, spark plugs, oil filter + labour for $2200 (will be cheaper if not bad...but i doubt it) or 2. Replace the engine with a second hnd RB20DET motor + labour for $3300 so what do you guy's reckon? money is kind of an issue here coz im a poor uni student, however i dont want any problems later on with the engine, eg. unwanted noises, faults. etc. any comments would be good, Cheers
-
the thing was when i was driving the temp gauge was sitting on normal, thats until the engine died, thats when it rose high mechanic reckons that it didnt indicate no high temp earlier because there was very little water or none.
-
That sounds like a beauty...i guess it would be hard to find one though especially up here in the NT. Thanks for the advice, even if its just the head gasket i feel like getting the RB25DE head
-
Yeah thats what i thought too. So i dont know why he even mentioned about boring and the other stuff. Probably trying to rip me off. I'll definitely talk to him tomorrow though. Cheers
-
Well i didnt catch everything he said, because i was in class. But from what i remember is that he done a pressure test and i have certainly blown a head gasket. Then he mentioned about the boring out something, then a head being warped, however this was his assumption without even physically opening the engine. So do you think it could just be a gasket? The suggestion of the RB25DE head sounds good, has anyone done it before? Would it be cheaper than getting a new RB20DET engine? cheers
