  1. well i got the call from the mechanics and they said its a head gasket... however he reckons that even its a head gasket he may have to bore the engine.... he also reckons theres a chance that the head has warped. just my luck he's going to call me back with options and price figures. do you's think i should bother getting the head reconditioned or go for a new engine? if a new engine would a RB25DET engine be similar instead of a new RB20DET engine? Also any rough price estimates would be good. cheers
  2. hey thanks for the assistance, the problem is fixed and i managed to override it. had to call the alarm shop to tell me how. Cheers
  3. Hi all, (i tried to keep it short) I was driving the other day when my engine suddenly cut out and all the warning lights were on. No sound of a bang, just as if the engine switched off. I pulled on the side of the road and then noticed white smoke coming out of the drivers side from the bonnet, which i expected the engine had overheated, not that it showed up on the temp gauge. After waiting for it to cool down I noticed the coolant was very low and my radiator had no water!!! I topped it up with water and waited for awhile and tried to start the engine. Nothing. As i turn the ignition all I can hear is the starter motor but the engine is not responding. I had the car towed to the mechanics and am still waiting on the diagnostics. What do you think is wrong with my R32? - Blown Head Gasket? (i hope) - Cooked Head? Anyone who knows what it might be or experienced the same please let me know. Cheers
  4. Hi all, Can anybody tell me how to disarm the immobiliser without the controller? I had a little problem with washing my car and accidently wet the controller now it wont disarm. Can anybody help me out? The alarm is a CAM 3 point immobilser. I would take it somewhere but I cant drive the car, still immobilsed. Cheers
  5. Hey if you have an R32 and do manage to cut-off the speed limitor, how can you tell that you are driving over 180km/h? Doesn't the speed dials only go up to 180km anyways?
  6. my bad, found it. Already came in the car. oops.
  7. hey guys my head unit finally arrived!!! i was looking at the manual and looks like a farily easy install, but i was just wondering if mounting brackets would be required to screw the unit to the dash? If so would anyone know where to get them from, because it didnt come with my unit. thanks
  8. ok, thanks 34mspec. got it at the mechanics the other day and he reckons the clutch has been burnt out...which explains the smell. So yeah he is going to give me prices on clutches available; standard, heavy duty or racing. Would anyone out there know a rough cost on these clutches? Also do you think that the previous owner of the car may have been thrashing the skyline, hence a burnt out clutch? Or because being a 15 yr old car & turbo it would be due for a new one. I have only owned it for a month and havent really thrashed it nor do i plan to. Cheers
  9. Im sorry hey, i dont really know much about cars. But all I know is that its like the car is not getting into gear properly. So basically when I try to try it moves very slowly and you car hear the car revving and getting no where. I hope its not something big. Would this happen if the gearbox oil was low? Cheers
  10. Can someone help me. I dont really know whats wrong with my R32 Gts-t. I was just driving today and as i was accelerating the car was just revving in gear, as if it was in neutral. This is what i suspect it might be: - The clutch, it smells like something is burning. - I was suspecting it may be the gearbox fluid straight after its service. I can drive the car but it accelerates so slow, as if its not in gear. It happened tonight and i had just got it serviced today at repco. it was driving fine until tonight. Also the HICAS light comes up when driving sometimes, does it have something to do with it? Please someone help. Cheers
  11. Alpine all the way. Ive had alpine head units in the past and they have worked great never anything wrong and they also have the best sound. If you go for the alpine get the 9833 as they have the internal amp which will sound nice without amps and all that stuff. Im currently waiting for my CDA-9835, cant wait!!
  12. ok thanks for the replies guys. *phew* i thought it may have been something serious.
  13. Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone could help me out here. My problem is that the HICAS light, lights up when I drive after a certain period. There seems to be no problem with the car but i just want to know why it is doing this and whether there is a problem. Oh the car is a R32 1989 GTS-t. Any answers would be great. Cheers
  14. get a new toyota camry sportivo, nice big interior, leg room, big boot, japanese style, VVT-i power and is excellent on fuel!
  15. you should be getting at least 14s but it would be better test it out for yourself. A mate with a g-tech would be handy.
  16. was the r32 even giving you's a go?
  17. Totally agree, mine is pretty much stock and it can do high 14's - low 15s.
  18. Lucky the person i bought it off had already replaced the factory ones with decent aftermarket ones....just gotta get the new head unit. But at the momment ive been having probs with the factory headunit, sometimes the volume is producing only low sound even tho its up and sometimes it just cuts out.
  19. yes, i have noticed that small amp in the back boot. Do i have to touch it or can i just do a straight head unit replacement?
  20. hey mang...u finally logged on this forum. catch up. AB
  21. thanks ppl for all the help, ill probably go to autobarn tomorrow and look for an adaptor. cheers
  22. I dont really know anyone else with a R32 gts-t so thats why im trying to find out a bit more about the car through other owners on the forum, which seems to be much help.
  23. ok thanks, i was starting to worry that this lack of torque may mean theres something wrong with my engine. but i absolutely agree that anything above 3revs does make up for it. overall im pretty happy with the car, just a bit dissappointed initially. i was talking to a mechanic who owns a 200sx himself and he reckons that a complete exhaust system and boost controller would improve the performance. Do you's think this may fix the lack of torque from take off, and do you's have any ideas that can help initial torque for the RB20DET? cheers
  24. also i forgot to mention since the head unit im removing is stock is it hard taking it apart from the a/c climate control and cassette deck?
  25. ok thanks for that, i feel a bit more confident now installing it myself rather than going to a professional and gettin ripped off. about the adaptors, this would be the first time for me to deal with these thingys. Do they just plug in together from unit to cables and are they necessary? sorry for asking 2 many q's its just that once i begin installing i dont want 2 wreck anything or find out i need something else. cheers
