  1. Thanks for the reply but it looks like I won't have the car much longer. I might have to hit you up for some SR20 bits and pieces though if you can get good prices
  2. Wow those dyno readings really show just how much you lose by sticking with a stock untunable ECU. I think you just convinced me to get a PFC...Now all I need to do is find one to suit a SR20, oh and find some money!
  3. It's much more rewarding at the end off the day and you just might learn something I used to just take my car to a garage for a "service" whenever it was due. Since I have had the skyline I now do my own oil and filter changes, spark plugs, coolant etc, replaced some hoses, installed a bov, installed a front mount, install a nismo dash instrument cluster, installed a boost gauge and boost controller etc. You just learn so much and the money you save you can put into more mods. Helps that my old man used to be a mechanic and has every tool under the sun and big garage though
  4. I will give them a call and get a price, Squizz also gave me some details for a guy here in Brisbane who does customer pipes etc so I will call him too. The ARE stuff looks REALLY good but is more than I want to spend for a complete cooler kit. I will be getting a decent large intercooler at the same time I get the car, just need some piping made up for it and clamps and what not and will install it myself as I like to tinker and don't want to pay someone else to do something for me if I can do it myself.
  5. I wouldn't worry about it, I have a bleed on mine set to 10 PSI and it goes great. I have not noticed any flat spot at all and the performance increase at 10PSI is well worth it.
  6. I have experienced similar. As Merli said its the standard ECU overboost protection, which is not such a bad thing as you don't REALLY want to run a stock R33 turbo at 14-16PSI unless you are looking for a good excuse to buy a new one. If you want to stop it doing this either turn down the boost, get a boost cut defender or buy a PFC as Merli said.
  7. I would say probably a fair amount of money, Although the SR does seem to respond REALLY well to basic performance mods. I am looking out for prices on a high flow BB T28 with steel wheels at the moment then bigger fuel pump, fuel regulator and perhaps injectors. But I probably won't have enough money to do it all at once like I want to. Have to get the car first, then get the cooler piping and see how much cash i have left over after.
  8. yep that's pretty much what I wrote
  9. I never had a valve in that line on my GTST. When i installed my GFB BOV I actually took the old pipe off and replaced it with a new bit of pipe. Car runs perfectly. All I can think of is it might have been a small inline filter or something, although I am sure that if having one there was important Nissan would have put one there...
  10. Should I say anything in particular in it?
  11. My understanding was that the red top came on the earlier 180sx and s13 silvia. The black top came on the s14 and s15 and some later models of 180sx. I believe that the black top has variable valve timing where the red top doesn't. Don't know of anything else.
  12. I really know nothing about injector impedences and whether they are top feed, side feed etc, Just saw some GTR ones cheap and thought they might make a good budget upgrade. I don't really want to go over the top as the car has to still be fuel efficient when driven on low boost for commuting purposes.
  13. Ok I will probably need to get some custom intercooler piping made up soon. Can anyone give me some names and details for places in Brisbane that do this? I can fit it all myself, just need the piping made up, the silicon hose to join pipe sections and the hose clamps. I need to do this on a reasonably tight budget as I don't have that much spare cash.
  14. Will stock skyline GTR injectors fit straight up to an SR20DET engine? If not what are the best value injectors for an upgrade. Not looking for anything huge as the car has to stay reasonably fuel efficient as it will be a daily driver. Just enought to handle say a high flowed stock turbo at 15psi safely. Hehe, lot of SR20DET questions for a skyline forum I know but I do still own my skyline at the moment and quite a few people here seem to have 180's silvia's etc.
  15. Ok guys looking at turbo upgrades. What are the details on the stock turbos on an R33 GTR? Would one of these make a good upgrade for a SR20DET silvia etc? Are the turbo's on the GTR the same as on the pulsar GTIR? Are they ball bearing? How much would they be worth and how much to high flow with steel wheels? Would they bolt straight up to a SR20DET engine?
  16. Yeh it iss but i mean with good choice of aftermarket mufflers it looks really nice should have been more specific.
  17. yeh but a litle bit of custom work on the bumper and it would look awesome on a skyline! I have seen quite a few 300zx done like this and it looks great when done right. Makes more sense on the 300zx though as there would be a seperate exhaust for each turbo that way.
  18. Hey Cam, Have you ever made up intercooler pipes for a S13 or something? Perhaps I could pay you to make me some
  19. I have no idea about the noise, brand cost, efficiency of design etc but I would really love to have a dual exhaust like this.
  20. Gotta get the car first! Hopefully it will all happen this week and I will be able to bring the car out to your dyno day and see how she goes. I can have a talk with the guys there about mods and my power goals when I am there. Doesn't take long to drive out to Toowoomba, and I like driving anyway! Once I have the car I might bring it down to willowbank one night when you and Jay51 are there and have a go.
  21. What make/model of EBC was that for $450 and how is it?
  22. No you don't need to remove the internal ones, there is a hose clamp on the bit of rubber pipe between the AFM and the air box, losen this off and then wiggle the pipe until it detaches from the airbox. Airbox should then lift out pretty easily. from memory there are 4 screws holding it in. Two at the front down behind the head light, one at the back near the strut tower and one down the side near the boost solenoid. Hope that helps.
  23. Yeh being in Brisbane it is cheaper again for me which is nice, even my R33 was only costing around $1350, as opposed to almost twice that when it was in Sydney! Yeh get some more info on the turbos and see if you can squeeze a discount for getting 2 Send me an email at [email protected] if you get some info.
  24. Hey thanks for the info Prank, very handy, I figured you would probably answer having just scored yourself a 180sx I was actually going to go for the 180sx myself but now looks like it will be an s14, which is not so bad, the s14 can be made a nice looking car, and it has the later model engine with the VVT and being an Australian delivered car the insurance is a LITTLE bit cheaper which never hurts. I already have an SAFC in the cupboard ready to go. What I was wondering is how important is it to have control over the ignition timing as well as the fuel? How much extra power would you gain and is it important for reliability when running around 1 bar. I bought the SAFC originally as I thought since the car is a daily driver and is generally for street use with the odd run at the strip there is really no justification for the PFC, probably still holds true but PFC's are just very cool! Is there much of a gain to be had by going to aftermarket cam gears? These seem to be a relatively cheap upgrade. BTW it should be noted that the SAFC does nothing for the skyline if you install it in the cupboard in your computer room (never got round to getting it fitted, stupid but true) Prank - Let me know what you do with your turbo, I would be interested in getting the same thing (depending on the cost), maybe we might be able to squeeze a discount getting two the same.
  25. Thanks for the info that was great! I don't really know any tuning shops around Brisbane, if I needed to get something done I would probably take it down to Autotech on the Gold Coast or something. The car will be a 96 S14 200SX. Already has exhaust and pod filter, going to do the heatshield and big front mount cooler straight away, Is it safe to crank the boost up to 1 bar on the stock turbo as long as the intercooler has been upgraded? I generally drive pretty sedately but like to have the power there when I want to play! Just trying to work out my best value for money mods and what not at the moment, I have an SAFC in the cupboard already that I never got round to fitting to my R33, just tossing up whether to sell that and buy a powerfc or just keep it and fit it. Depends how important timing control is with the S14 under these conditions and how important fuel control is. Also do you know if you can remap the ignition/fuel maps on the stock ecu? Cause that might be the go rather than aftermarket management, lot cheaper as I don't have that much cash to spend.
