Manual Conversion
4door_Sleeper replied to kcmagee's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Your comments about the 33 GTR box's are well documented and known, but we arent talking about a GTR here, he wants to put a manual box in a GTSt (whole different ball game) The 33 GTSt boxes are a good box and cope well with moderate power increases. kcmagee, the celica 5 speed boxes are quite strong and used to be the box of choice in 70's v8's both becuse they could take the torque and because anything is better than a 3 speed (especially if it was on the tree). Given that skyline parts are very cheap and the 33 box is good I dont think you could do better for value than keeping with a nissan box. If you have a ball tearing 400rwkw then I agree the 33 box wont do, but until then its your best option. -
Thanks to all those who turned up, (David, Shaun, Steve, Andrew) good to catch up. Free food and drink - then HJ's afterwards. We have booked in again for a Saturday the 9th of September at 10:30am - thinking of heading out for lunch afterwards. If you didnt turn up tonight mark it in your diary, we booked extra spots for the Saturday.

I did a search but couldnt find the original thread the link went to, probably lost. Give Mike a call (number is on the first post) or email him at MV Automatics (think the address is in here somewhere or use whitepages.com.au) for specific information on hi stall torque converters or for more info on the valve bodies (they are a great mod and well worth the money) -
Can it be done - YES Is it ecconomical - NO (unless you have access to a workshop and lots of cheap parts) I know the idea of a baby godzilla on the cheap is nice, but it wont happen. Have you factored in the cost for the brake upgrade? Extra power = extra heat (will your cooling system cope?) I beleve the half shafts in the GTS4 are lighter than the GTR and dont take too well to the extra power. When you finally sell the car you may struggle to get a good price because of the perceived risk of a backyard job - i know i wouldnt touch it.

This is more of a forced induction topic, but the answer is NO Forgies (forged pistons) will only be a small part to make the engine reliable at higher power figures (ie you dont need forgies unless you push big power figures and want to keep the moror in 1 piece for more than a year)

Safe and child friendly - I have taken my 2 kids (7 and 9yrs) but they are not allowed in for the blood sample and when you answer some of your questions such as have you injected in the last X months etc (5-10 min max), but they can be with you whin you donate blood. I'm happy to keep an eye on them whilst you are in answeering the questions.

Stop by for dinner at the Blood Bank (free food inside - HJ's and restaurants outside)

Happy to cruise afterwards - when I first posted this I was hoping we could get in on a weekend (cruise first then meet up to donate blood - but Saturdays are nearly impossible to get into with more than 3 people) See you all there tomorrow

It was much better than the old bleed valve, boost came on a little earlier, and didnt spike (allowing a slightly higher boost setting) I tend to drive on low boost most of the time (good for wet roads and when leaving it at a workshop), and go to high boost for occasional spirited drives or track day events

Install it yourself, very easy to do. From memory all you need is a power and earth source (from under the dash), and run a vacume line (and wires to the solenoid) through the firewall to the unit. I installed mine in around half an hour. If you live up the north east you are welcome to have a look.

Andrew was just going to sit on him, given a choice it rather be hit by a kick boxer LOL

Yes the bottle has spots for 2 motors (had to use my old ones as it didnt come with new ones) It mounts (slides down) onto a bracket they provide, not sure if they used exosting bolt holes or had to drill them. Since I couldnt edit my earlier post, here is another picture of my engine bay from the other side -
Joe, dont listen to these fools. All you need is: an atmo blow off valve - $150 4 inch exhaust tip (its the only bit people see) - $50 Huge sub and amp combo - $200 on ebay or similar Chrome hubcaps (much cheaper than rims) - $40 ar Super Cheap Auto and spend $60 on brand name stickers for your doors (Trust Greddy HKS etc) All up $500 and youl'll have a fully sick ride. Remember to drag off every car you see at the lights, keep the drivers window down and the sub turned up. With practice you may even master the art of driving with the seat all the way back and fully reclined. (chicky babes love this)

Hope you have better luck than I did. I was run off the road in July 2007, got the car back in January 2008 (for 2 weeks) and sent it back for another 3 weeks to fix work that wasn't up to standard. Had the car back 2 weeks and split a coolant hose (back of the block) fixed it myself over several weeks and have only just got my car back on the road (9 months in total)

The washer bottle came as part of the Greddy intercooler kit, i didnt install it, but guess the intercooler pipe is in the way for the original washer bottle. -

I took a quick photo tonight of my engine bay, I had the plenum, crossover pipe and rocker covers polishes, then I chromed the injector caps and rail as well as the timing belt cover. Add a few silicone hoses and its starting to look better. Only problem with this process is the more you do, the more you see can also be done. I’ll start on the left hand side of the engine next. -
Nightcrawler was spotted stopping to check out the rear end of his car this afternoon on Milne Rd You know you have a problem when you have to pull over and check out your own car LOL

I know the one, isnt it Harvey Normans Scratch and Dent shop? They sometimes get some good items in there at great prices (i'll have to catch up as we build the new house, we will be looking for lots of electrical stuff for the new kitchen and entertainment systems.)
