My diff is starting to open wheel, and I am looking at my options. As the car already makes a lot more power than the standard diff was meant to handel, I was wondering if it is worthwhile fixing it, or replacing it with a GTR diff? My questions are : 1. are they interchangable? 2. can I just change the center or should I also change the 1/2 shafts. 3. are r32 and r33 GTR diffs the same? (or do I have to find one from a 33) 4. are the GTR diffs any stronger (I would have thought so but I may be wrong) Any advise sought, but I would love to here frome someone who has done this already. I realise I could go for an aftermarket diff, but the car isnt driven thet hard often enough for me to justify the $2000 (installed) price tags I have been given.

I went today and was fairly disappointed. There were a few good cars (big dollar no expence spared, never meant to go on the road) but most cars were honest street driven cars little better than those we drive every day. I thought the Horsepower expo was better value and had a much wider range of vehicles (I dont mind the old hotrods and some of the better V8 brigade) Saw an R31 get a massive 79rwkw on the dyno and the commentator trying to talk it up as a good effort. I would have thought if you don’t have 200+ you shouldn’t enter.

Auto Gear Box Improvments

Have a chat to Mike at MV automatics. I have organised a group buy for the Valve body, and he can also set you up with a torque converter. The prices are good and there are many satisfied people on this forum. Check out http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...54&hl=automatic ITs a great improvement over standard shifts, will allow you to leave the line quicker than an equivelant manual, and you get the cruise benifits in traffic. -
I'm keen for a cruise. How about September 3rd or 10th (the weather might be a bit better by then, and people have plenty of time to clear their calendar. (unless they are too soft to come out on a cruise)
-
I'm happy to organize one if there are enough people interested.

Congratulations - on the sale and to the new owner. So what the next car, have you found a GTR?

The SA section of SAU isnt a club as such, more a group of like minded people who meet and catch up sometimes (more in summer, less in winter) If you are after more of a car club atmosphere you could check out the SVD Car Club (Nissan Special Vehices), many people on here are in both SVD and SAU.

Do you still need an exhaust and wheels? I have a spare 33 exhaust, and the wheels on my 33 are standard size (16 inch) BBS rims (if thats any good).

Great to here your on the road. Look forward to catching up with you on a cruise one day.

The guys at Midus(??) custom make a nice one at a good price. They are located in the Auto complex on North East Rd Modbury. I had them make one up for me (a copy of a Trust split dump pipe) and they have made several others since for other skylines.

Sorry I dont remember, its been too long since the cars been out for a run (other that the occasional once around the block to keep things lubricated)

Did they ever make a good31? to those going.

Drag Racing Gearbox
4door_Sleeper replied to Morgs's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I dont want to take sides on this one, but do have a question/comment about the differences between drag and circuit work. I would have thought most of the load on the trans (including the gear box) occurs when you accelerate from a standing start (which both circuit and drag racing cars will do), but a drag car will do this 8000 times over 2200km (to use the example above), whilst the curcuit car will do this only a few (perhaps 50?) I guess gear changes on the move are probably equally hard on the car in both drag and circuit work for equally powered and weighted cars. (Not having looked in some of the boxes listed above, but other than the ratio is there much of a difference in gear size (strength) between 1st and 3rd (if 3rd is the one that often breaks), or is the failure a result on the shifting gear on a pre loaded trans) I would have thought an auto was the best option for a drag car, add a suitable torque converter to match the engines power delivery and away you go. Someone above mentioned a Trans Brake for the auto (used by the big boys of drag racing) but I was advised that it would be too harsh on the driveline of a skyline ("rip the ass end out" were the exact words) without a lot of work to strengthen the rear end. -

Just a thought, could you rebuild a box from a Stagea or GTS4. I heard that the internals from a Nissan Patrol auto (also a 4x4 and has a transfer case) fit into the same case (but different bell-housing) and are almost identical to the GTSt's but are built to handle a lot more torque. You could get in contact with Mike at MV Automatics for more information. . -
Automatic Transmission Shift Kit. - Updated Oct 2006
4door_Sleeper replied to 4door_Sleeper's topic in Group Buys
Hi Andrew Quicker shifts prolong the life of the clutch packs as they spend less time grinding away on each other. They also reduce the heat generated which is the big killer of autos. Make sure you also get a trans cooler fitted. If there is enough interest we may be able to set up a group buy on the modified torque converters. (I am happy to talk to mike about this if there is enough interest - and as I need to do it to my 33 soom anyway.) -
To fold, or not to fold?
4door_Sleeper replied to rinmak's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
No need to do it, I never park close enough to other cars. If someone could bump my mirrors they could bump my doors (THATS NOT ON). I tend to park in 2 carparks at a time and wait in the car whilst the wife goes in to get whatever at the shops. -

Hi The PFC comes with a conservative tune preset, so you can plug it in and drive around before you get it tuned. It will drive better than the standard computer, and will be a lot better when you get it properly tuned later on. I did this to my skyline and had no problems.

You will probably be limited to around 230rwkw (regardless of what the turbo is capable of) without changing the injectors. Wth new injectors you should be able to hit close to 300rwkw if everything else is up to it (before you start on the internals of the engine)

What colour should I paint my brake calipers?
4door_Sleeper replied to Nightcrawler's topic in South Australia
Go Pink Andrew - It will match your springs (and brings out the colour in your eyes) :innocent: -
Its all fair. I dont want to know how much she spends on clothes and shoes, and she dosent want to know how much I spend on the car.

VL water pump a direct replacement for R33?
4door_Sleeper replied to benl1981's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I hope you dont use that logic if you ever have to purchase a new turbo or gear box :Pimp2: -
Hey Matt, I made a few favourable comments, so how about a BIG discount on my next policy

Where did they do the exhaust noise test? I thought it was a drive past at x% throttle in 2 directions test. (dont think they have the location or equipment to do the propper test, so 1db would be a big call if they didnt do the test correctly.)
