  7. Mr Beer Baron you're a very knowledgable guy when it comes to this stuff. are there ANY upgraded gearsets that use standard ratios? because everyone that has seen it opened up say it's larger than std (these are people that know gearboxes).
  8. thanks mate...will take a look at the pics. didn't think my gears were that long though. only going from memory but i thought 1st was 70-75, 2nd 120-130, 3rd 180ish and i never revved out 4th to know. Edit: just looked up what the std gearset is good for @ 8,000 rpm... 1st = 73 2nd = 122 3rd = 181 4th = 236 5th = 313 Looks like whatever i've got is standard ratio or very close to it....so what could it be?
  9. Hi guys I bought an upgraded gearbox for my car when i smashed 3rd on the std box (last turn at morgan park....should have shifted sooner). The seller of the upgraded gearbox at the time had purchased an unused turnkey race gtr and was told that the gearset was OS giken and was virtually brand new. I have recently had the box out as i'm in the midst of doing some major upgrades but can't find any markings on the gearset at all. Visually it has larger than standard gears (guessing each gear is around 5mm larger but yet to measure), a standard input shaft and series 3 sychro's. It's handled 320awkw on the street/track/strip without failure where the std box broke when the car had around 260awkw. Gearing felt near enough to std. Could it be an OS but with a std input shaft? Another guess was route 6 but some argue that even a route 6 has markings on the gearset. Any thoughts? Trying to work out what it is to determine if it will handle my new mods (400awkw+) and to work out a value for it if i decide to sell. thanks in advance
  10. i bought off these guys two weeks ago. have received the gear. very happy with service/product/price.
  11. looks very interesting. just need how to lose 200kg. hell, i'd be happy to be running at 1450kg for a caged 33gtr.
  12. on hold pending payment.
  13. apexi pods or std setup for 400awkw track car?
  14. what series clutch? 559? 669? 709? trying to work out the hp rating.
  15. These are too tall for a 33 gtr aren't they?
  16. 285 re55's ordered. running out of cash to upgrade the spring rates and check bearings etc etc before drive bathurst. going to run with a tyre i know and will look to upgrade when time/bank balance allows.
  17. 100k on labour......ouch.
  18. am building mine right now also, but mine has -5 turbo's. i'm already running poncams (260 9.15mm) and going to test out how they go in the new motor. about to order the supertech head gear.....valves, springs (dual), retainers and locks. My goal is also 400awkw for a reliable track car and have been told that is all i'll need. Unsure what 'cleaning up' work the builder is going to do while he's in there.....but will let you know. on another note i'm trying to have the compression ratio around 9:1 (vs std 8.5:1) to help with response as even -5's are a bit laggy at times. might even go higher if the engine builder thinks it's doable as i'll be running e85 so i won't run into any fuel issues.
  19. On the topic of costs, what's wrong with this combo? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JE-Pistons-Manley-Rods-Skyline-RB26DETT-R32R33R34-86-5-/270774783008?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f0b6f4c20#ht_4875wt_786 And what is the target compression of an e85 tuned rb26 with 400kw at the wheels?
  20. thinking the bc kit is the way to go..for only 1k more than the step zero.
