Mark Berry Breaks Mt Cotton Hillclimb Record

yes, i am sure michael will be trying pretty hard to get the record back, but i was talking to him and he is building a pro class off road buggy too which is keeping him busy also. michaels car is an awsome machine and he drives it super hard! interestingly , we put a set on avons on the car for one run and took them back off as they werent upto it for our car, it appears the car is to heavy for them and they move around heaps on the sidewall which was costing time, we also noticed this at the maryborough sprints but didnt worry about changing them back . i have a picture at home which i'll post and show you what the sidewalls were doing -

there would be nearly second a lap maybe more, i reckon in time gained around mount cotton with the GTR gearbox. it really is an amazing bit of kit, it absolutely rips you off the start line four wheels smoking tyres and with so much torque you can leave it in second for the first right hand hard turn. there would be another half a second in it if you were willing to risk it a bit more but i did not want to scratch it ..yet! you would go quicker if you had a proper seat and harness as i was getting thrown around a bit which makes it a bit harder with the g's the thing is pulling. like Andrew said one of the amazing things is , you can be mid corner in a full broad slide on the limiter and change gears and it will not upset the car one bit!! it will just continue in the slide based on what your doing with the throttle and steering. it is a very easy car to four wheel power slide -

thanks guys,! it really is a scary place there, when you have a moment there you really sh#t your pants! ( & i had a few in the 35!!) Mark and i were really happy with that time and mark drove it reall well too, it was getting so much speed up the hill it was locking brakes up hill trying to slow down for the corners the r35 was on the stock street dunlops, they get very squirmy when you try and put ya foot in mid corner and they have done a hundred plus laps around oran and QR NOW ! out right lap is a 37 or 38 set by the open wheeler boys!! ....crazy fast lol -
interesting stuff about removing fluid in the power steering, when we blew a power steering belt it was undriveable , could not turn it fast enough and definately couldnt catch it if we had a bit of a moment.

you a classic dunc..!

hey mate our r32 has the pedal box mounted on the floor, we didnt move the seat or steering wheel. but we did have to make a box into the wheel arch to get it forward more, hanging pedals is a good idea as the box was a bit of a job. interestingly we are keeping the booster on the r34 BTW like risking said has to be a good pedal setup or you will bend it! we bent the cheaper tilton setup with about half an hour of driving

Hey guys just though some of you might like to know. Mark and i were playing at QR(SAT) & MT Cotton(SUN) this weekend, and Mark managed to break the hillclimb record for a car three times in the R32 GTR, The previous record was a 43.6 & Mark managed a 42.72 by the end of the day! he drove really well! really does show again they are great all round cars! I drove the R35 and was happy with the times it produced especially given it's weight & on street rubber, my best time was a 45.3. cheers russ

Is There A New Worlds Fastest Low Mount Gtr?
giant replied to Beer Baron's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
hey guys Sarah my wife is kicking herself for not coming out to watch! (so no vid as she does the videoing) just a few other spec's as asked the car is making about 450/460kw at all four, i have never had it on another dyno except the one in japan, so not sure what it would read on another was 800ps at all four in japan though !!....lol (i dont think so) ecu is autronic, with autronic cdi also tailshaft is a one piece carbon clutch is an NPC clutch same as mark jacobson ( awsome clutch we generally get the whole year out of it, then just rebuild it) rear diff is stock front diff is cusco transfer case is stock (have not rebuilt it since we put it in four years ago!!) all drive shafts are stock mark did drive it real well , i can tell you right now i would not have got that time. cheers russ -

BTW i certainly don't want to sound cocky or anything as Pauls effort's in drag racing are outstanding and a credit to him and so is his car. i am just really happy we cracked into the 9's with good speed!! and yeah Roy it was a real buzz. basic specs are GCG garret's equivelant to 2530's 2.6 ltr with tomie crank, gt block, cleaned up standard rb26 exhaust manifolds, 6 throttle hypertune plenum ppg dog box full exhaust (wasnt even running the side pipe) -
i dont know if this help you any but i got RACE ONLY approval to bring in a race car , an r34 gtr (not registerable), i didnt have a Circuit Racing/Level 3 CAMS( i had cams LS2) but i did write a letter explaining what racin we were doing with the car and that it is not cams sanctioned events and had a J.P sign it. and also gave some other evidence to support my story. cheers russ

hey guys yep can confirm Mark did run 9.78@143 mph tonight! so extremely happy with that! thanks for the congrats hey Danh, cheers mate but i dont need another run to know what time it did, and could careless whether it needs to be backed up or not for drag circles or in any other circle ,we havent been to the drags in it for a run in well over a year and it probably wont be going back, i have the slip yeah first run was 11.1@80 mph (110 mph at half track) mark backed out as he wanted to make sure he got off the line well, so he then got a warning from the officials to say make sure the one you dont back out of is good because it will be on the trailer, so next run he did a rather large tyre warming skid & he got off the line really well and drove through for the time. probably could go a little quicker if setup right but not much , like turn back the 5 degrees negative front camber and a couple at the rear. what i am really happy with is the car has not even had a spanner laid on it since superlap and is setup how it ran down there , it will be running at qr this Saturday and mt cotton hillclimb Sunday (which we will be trying to break the record for a sedan at the hillclimb), Just makes me love GTR'S even more as they really can be a great all rounder. cheers russ (will post the slip when i get it scanned) -
absolutely i do ben & someone who's been there before too..

thanks guys excellent news! i am sure i will have more questions, like is there a minimum weight in the modified modern rally class?

i thought you would like it john ! they are fantastic please dont tell your time .... you probably went faster in the wet than me in the dry!! lol actually would be really cool to see how fast you could punt one around oran !! i reckon high 1.15 with no mercy! which would be awsome !

hI Stuart what is the ruling on wheels, can the r35 GTR enter with SMALLER than standard wheels eg: instead of the standard 20 inch wheels, can it run 18 inch wheels? purely hypothetical of course lol and if you could please tell me what is the ruling on the exhaust mods on a GTR.

yeah John ... i want your roster!!!
