hi martyf1champ07 for interest sake you can get a brand new N1 R26 for 10 grand( i know as this the road i originally took), it really depends on what you intend to do with the car, or the level of mods required. may pay to get a second opinion on whats wrong too. cheers russ

THANKS FOR A GREAT DAY GUYS!! I was amazed at the good sensible driving displayed. I had a great day, very well run, just wish i had stayed at the dam and missed the storm. (also had to take care of the other gtr that shit a turbo) i thought it was a great thing to be part of, and it meant a fair bit to me as i have a three week old boy!! well done Erin and co.!! good job Hope to see some of you wednesday. Cheers Russell

Hi Kennedy just my opinion on your question, good mechanics are a rare commodity if you do it well you can be paid very well. especially in the truck mechanic side, diesel fitting heavy vehicles, earthing moving equipment etc. i think it is important to do a bit of homework in what area you would like to get involved with. here in brisbane diesel mechanics can earn upto and over one hundred thousand a year, there is a huge skill shortage in the trades, ( i know as some mechanics i employ often reach that per annum) and companies like daimler, cummins & detroit diesel all offer that kind of money with overtime. sorry to rant but food for thought. cheers Russell

hi hr30 yeah i was really happy with it(the time), especially since car was in pretty poor shape brake & alignment wise, that was an r32 gtr at the QLD dutton rally. mindyou the car has shitloads of power, it would be quicker now though so cant wait to go back, close ratio dog box & 6 pot ap's now!! hope to meet up sometime, i will hopefully be at the track day on the 30th on Nov. cheers Russell

hmmm jmac hope you didnt have to do the hill climb in the rain!! that would have been a real eye opener. i think if the car is setup okay with good horse power that that mount cotton hill climb is good, i managed a 46.5 there on second lap with out walking it. i think there are a fews guys here that could give the records in there class a shake up with the right setup & enoough horespower !! i had very little brakes and had to use the handbrake on that run down that last hill which was a bit interesting, changed the rotors in the car park after that. it was heaps of fun but like a few of the other guys said it would definately bite you if you get it wrong. cheers Russ

for the record well i bought a ba xr6t ute and an xrt8 ute when they first came out, both as my company vehicles. i put a vortex supercharge on the xr8 which made about 335rwkw, pity the rest of the car could not handle it! the xr6t was okay but to heavy & to slow, poor brakes and very ordinary transmission, these cars really do leave alot to be desired after owning them a while. i have since sold both but did keep the xr8t for a while. required brake replacements on the front on both cars, radiator on the xr6t and a diff, also a few plugs had melted together on the xr6t. one other thing every now and again the car would missfire on start up and blow the a few pipes off, which is a very well know issue with them. but as far as either of them even getting remotely close on the track to a properly midly modded gtr which i bought around the same time, you would be kidding yourself. i have raced plenty of turbo fords this year on different tracks and none have come close to beating me or half the other cars entered competition. all a ba turbo ford is, is a fast family taxi. for the record my car has 365kw 's at 4 wheels on standard n1 turbos & more importantly above 240 4 wheel kw's from 3600rpm to 8200rpm. 10.85 at 132mph at w.s.i.d this car is an 1989 model gtr that a paid 20 grand for. 1 min 34 around winton with only four laps, no practice & never been there before. beat only by peter fitzgerald in a beautifully modified gt3 porsche and another gtr. airport timed 800 meter runs gtrs filled nearly all top eight positions. sorry for the rave but the cars a worlds a part. cheers Russell

this may be help to you. i thought i was getting axle tramp when i first bought my car, it utrned out to be the centre bearing banging around, it's sound very similar. i fitted pineapples and suspension before i found out what was happening this!! centre bearings are not very expensive and since then i have been in numerous cars with the exact same problem. hope this helps, cheers Russell

Hi guys for what its worth, i am currently using a ppg gearbox, straight cut dog engagement and love it. has been very good so far with no problems. on the dragstrip and for circuits also picked up around a third of a second down the 1/4 to get the car inot the ten second bracket. it is noisy being straight cut, but the gearset was a work of art and the selector forks very strong. i have also been crewing for a team in the australian rally series over the last couple of years and the ppg box in the group n car performed without fault. i am very hard on the transmissions if that is anything to go by, 6500 to 7000 grand launches on the last two rallies comprising of 20 odd stages or more each rally. cheers russell

Hi Andrew Sounds like it should be great fun, 330 kws at four wheels is what the dyno said. but we hace straight cut gearbox which has definately helped gear change times. all the gtr's down there should be great, i have driven an ra sti the are shit hot for handling and getting power down! yes they did sound checks in queensland! and i almost got told to go away! they werent as bad in nsw but my car was alot quieter for that event 95db. i know a porsche got pulled up for noise in nsw dutton. looking forward to it! Russell

yes mate we have, and it's great! it was one supplied by duncan raceworx off this forum. cheers Russell

yes we are really trying to get to vic dutton rally, simmo did an outstanding job again. he came 1st outright co driver and 1st outright team. the driver with me (as i was co driving) won 1st outright driver of the event. which was a bit of an upset beating martin nortorias, the car ran 10.852 down the 1/4 at w.s.i.d which turned a few heads. had an absolute blast. definately will catch with you when we get there, i hope all the gtr's give them something to think about. Cheers Russell
