D1 Grand Prix - Proffessional drift
drifto replied to Element's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
After going to the latest round of V8 supercars at Oran Park I became really excited with an idea ( not the first time ) They fill in time between support races and the main event with a couple of bricklayers utes doin there best to make some smoke. At least the Falcon sounded alright as it bounced off limiter with a limo diff that actually works unlike the crummydore! But how good would it be to have a couple of mad drift'ers in D1 style machines linking the track in some classic team drift. Gives the opotunity for some of our own technical garages and modifying workshops to throw some products at a promo car and give the sport a bit more exposure. -
I posted the details under the ACT and NSW event forums so check it out, theres a number to call for more info.

I'm thinking of a few good runs, like Batemans bay, Maquarie Pass via Sutton Forest and one my boss talks about up towards Yass and back thru Bungendore. I'll work on it and post up for interest to organise a good date. By the way, theres a drag and hill climb event being hosted by Wakefield Park on Sunday July 13. Only need a Wakefield license for the Hill climb $30.

Well done with the photos Shell. If i'd known you were doin sneaky ones out the back window i mighta put on some doorifto for the viewers. I still managed to scare shit out of a taxi driver and his passenger! We really need to find a good long fast drive next time, I had to go down to Jindabyne and back on Saturday night to blow the cobwebs out. Enjoyed meeting you all and looking forward to the next one.

I'll be there too. Haven't met up with any cruise buddies down here yet since I left Sydney. Looking forward to a good day.

I will have that looked at cheers, As i said to Adam in a PM, I had a renonwed workshop go for a test run and they were clueless! They did show me what happens when shaft bearings do go loose and the wheel touches the housing. A pair of very second hand GTR turbos sat on the bench in the workshop. It confirms that when this happens they don't last long so I am sure this is not my problem. Thanks again to every one for their input.

Interesting how the boost suddenly drops and at the same time you get an upward spike in the power curve????? Did the workshop with the dyno give you any clues?

Hi capacity Fuel Pump and Fuel Economy
drifto replied to adam 32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
When i bought my 32 it had a 33GTR fuel pump to help with boost levels of over 17psi. With the AFC and ITC tuned to perfection the car tended to ping at high rpm due to lack of fuel. However the pump and injectors are easily up to supplying an RB20 with only 200 or so KW. I had a rising rate fuel regulator fitted and set it at 4psi above standard. Pinging stoped immiediatly but it now uses heaps more fuel. Not so much just on boost but just starting the engine and dribling around town. The car almost chokes on fuel around town and you can here it discarding extra fuel through the exhaust with pops, burbles and sometimes a loud bang! All sound good to me if you don't mind a few extra $$$$$ a week in fuel. This could all be bullshit though because the garage that sold me the fuel reg @$280 plus $30 to install also did the dyno tune @ $80 plus $40 to adjust tune. When all they may have done is tuned the fuel/air ratio to be richer. -
I was told once when I was worried about my 2 litre in my Alfa GTV that with a true reading you won't about 1 kg for every 1000rpm. It is no secret that R32 oil pressure gauges are in-accurate at the best of times and useless most of the time. On my R32 as with the others, it reads about 4kg at start up, no matter what the revs. At operating temp it will drop to 1kg at idle and then reads usually nothing until 4000rpm. It will however rise and fall as you boost up a little. At the end of the day, run a good quality synt oil and only panic if the oil light comes on. But do change oil regulary because the heat genarated by the turbo and the friction created thru the revs that most of us 32 gts drivers endow upon it will deteriorate its effectiveness very quickly.

Cheers again for your replies. I believe it is more along the lines of a gasket leak too. I'll have a good look Saturday and post back what I find for any other people curious. By the way my Turbo aint stock and I don't think HKS would approve of someone going to their handy work with an air grinder. A rebuild maybe, but if it comes off I'm hoping it can go straight back on again. I'm getting really toey running around town without letting it build any boost. The slightest hint of waistgate chatter is enough to get me going. ch ch ch ch ch to to tooo.

Thanks to all for your replies. Doesn't sound good. This may be the start of some serious rebuilding. It's definately not a belt. Time to rip the Turbo off I guess. Maybe I'll find out now what a HKS T3G is. I now it's been good for over 200 rwkw so a bit of rebuilding might see more. Cheers fellas

My turbo is screaming when it reaches the set boost level. Makes normal spool up sound while getting there but makes a horrible sound on full boost. I've varied boost from 10psi to 18psi and the sound is only there when it has reached this level. Power has not been lost, oil pressure/level and quality are good. A local workshop suggested that the shaft bearing may be loose or worn and the exhaust wheel is touching the housing????? Either that or it's a blockage in the oil feed line and the noise is from the bearings running dry. To anyone with knowledge does that sound right or should my turbo have blown up by now??? Could it be something to do with air getting in or out of somewhere it aint supposed to? The Turbo is an old HKS T3G with an internal wastegate.

Sorry to all interested in the rims. They are now happily back on the car for another year or so. I will be looking for 17inch lightweight rims later so ask your mates and I'll be interested in a change over. -

I dont't have photos I'm not sure if you intend to tell the condition of the steering whell from the photo or if you don't know what one looks like. I can assure you it is round and has three spokes with a horn button. It's not damaged by the sun at all. As for the GTR wheels, they are not in mint condition. You will find a small mark on one spoke of one wheel and slight scuffing around the edges of most of them. By tomorrow I'm having new tyres fitted to them but if they sell I'm getting 17's in readiness for big brake upgrade. Wasn't sure on the price people are paying but I'll let them go for around $700. I would need a deposit before Lunch tomorrow otherwise they're on my car for another 12 months. Thanks for your replies anyway. -
