How to: Anodize your brake calipers
chowetime replied to shmiddy's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
just wondering if you think it is worthwhile getting clear coat and painting over the top just to give it more protection against brake dust eating away at the paint... or do you think that the heat will turn the clear to a murcky colour anyway -
I actually tried the site you mentioned before posting this question up but was unable to get the site for some reason... but you are right I certainly don't know anything when it comes to turbos ect... ask me questions about my previous car and that is a different thing altoghter )
-
I had them do all the work on my previous car and I have no complaints at all but then mine was a relitively easy job in comparision to turbo applications... but I have seen some of the great work they have done to a twin turboed Magna, and the guy that owns it is very happy... don't think there are too many tuning places that have 100% customer satisfacation rating... unfortunately that is one of the down sides when modifying you have expectations of big wonderful things are going to happen and they may not and things do get broken along the way let us know how you went and what wok they did for you

yeah 2 pak is great paint to use and the heat lamps will work a treat if you come up after the first couple of coats with small burst air bubbles ( thats the best way of explaining it ) give it a very gentle rub back with 1200 and 1600 grit paper this will just smooth off any minor rough bits without doing damage... make sure the surfaces that you are painting are clean and after you have cleaned it clean it again sometimes when cleaning engine parts it pays to use sandpaper or a kitchen scrub pad as this will help get anything out of the metal parts use prepsol for your final rinsing of grim and dust out of there preparation is everything and is the hardest bit.... the painting bit is easy

Ok.... so it won't look after the MAP sensor... I would imagine that would have an effect the way the car idles which could be sligthly higher than factory then? I have also noticed that people are changing there AFM to the Z32 why is this is the current stock one not adequate for tuning... Not having traction control which I am now starting to get very fond of (due to heavy right foot) could make life interesting.... Maybe the SAFCII/GReddy might be a better option after all as I am really just after better fuel economy due to the car running very rich.... and would like to keep most options on the car.... except the speed limiter

I have been down the modifying route before with my previous car and modding a car is a lot fun and very satisfying, so I am looking at doing it all again but with a better base - R33 the reason for me asking this is that my previous car was the first car that was fitted with the Greddy E Manage and due to it being a new type of air fuel computor no one new how to wire it into the car then the next job was to try and find someone that could tune it but it got done and it did take several weeks due to having to get various injector harnessess and the program which had to be translated from Japanesse to english and then it was discovered that we needed a cable to go from the laptop to the GReddy... I could go on about all the things that went wrong and all the things that had to be changed so that the car would run like a factory car but with all the benifits of a modded car - speed I was just so surprised as to the pricing of it to be so reasonable compared to other full computors such as the Motec - Wolf 3D - and others and just figured that you get what you pay for but I am not fond of paying for stuff that I don't need or won't use either I have however just finished reading an article about the PFC and that you don't need the hand controller to do the tuning and that the people that will do the tuning can do it via a laptop which will give a better tune now I just need to find a place that can do it this way

hey be nice... the Lancer was not that loud... mind you I don't miss that racket at all this car is so quiet but yet still has a very distinct sound coming from it...
-
just be careful with this weather though as you will need to make sure that were you are paint is nice and warm and the surface is warm at about 21 degrees otherwise when you paint the paint will be dull and will dry that way and no amount of buffing will fix it - also if you are painting with a red paint (including burgandy) don't put a clear coat over it as it will be easier to buff up faded red paint and bring it back to life rather than trying to buff the faded colour if it has a clear coat as all you will be doing is buffing clear(hope that made sense) Your tempretures, surface, room and paint temp is very important

Looking to try and find a reason for not putting the power fc into the car, I have so far found a lot of reasons to put it in but as yet have not heard of anyone say anything negitive about them... I know this is a weird thing to be asking but would really like to hear from people if they are unhappy with the unit ie: if it had cold start problems ect..

on my car I have got the hks 3" dragger and the noise coming from it is so quiet it is amazing and the extra power it has vs the stock is incredialble I am yet to get the front pipe/dump just need to find out if hks does this as I would prefer the complete system from 1 company rather than bits from here and there the cannon on mine is very big think it is a 5" job but so quiet

The I/C will slow the flow of air into the intake as it will not be the most direct route to it so this will also mean that you will lose volume as well... but I know where you are going with the denser/cold air it is expensive to do but it is something that I/we had been talking about when I was modding my Lancer... basicly the intake pipe coming from the air filter is similar to the design of a intercooler but in a cylinder shape (would be a very costly exercise for a few ponies but could give you a little more torque) another thing to add is a heat block can not think of the name of the material used but it is the same stuff that they use for making saucepan handles out of it bolts straight in between the throttle body and plenium chamber ( it is amazing the differences in temps ) and the other place to add this block to is at the inlet of the motor... this is about as far as you can go with lowering intake temps... heat sheilds are excellent and also look at directing air from behind front bar directly onto the air filter keeping in mind the surface area of the filter vs the size of the flexi tubing to do it sorry for long post

multinova cameras use only a 35mm lens so to get you clearly you need to be within 50mt of it to register that you are speeding then when you get within 20 mt it will then take your happy pic but if you have seen the camera in time and apply the brakes then it can not get a clear and accurate reading as it needs to take 3 pics of the car and all 3 pics must have the same speed recorded on it.... with the 3 lanes thing it still works but not as effectively which is why from time to time you will see the cameras on the other side of the road
-
have you seen the new cameras that are placed in the rear of a car... this will get you if you are approaching too fast and then realise it is a cop car in front of you... the main reason for why you did not get an infringement notice when being flashed the camera could not detect which one of you were speeding as they can only fine one of you even if it is believed that both were exceeding the limit... also it comes down to the angle that you were passing each other and the camera as the camera works on a maximum of 22 degrees from the road edge

I built a fibreglass box for my previous car and I must admit I was very nervous about doing it as it was laid inside the car so 1 stuff up could of meant disaster and a long time on the grinder getting it out... but it all went well and have since done other peoples installs the glass and resin I got from a local boat builder I got 4 meters of glass and enough catylist and resin to do it and it cost me about $60 the wood framing I picked up from Bunnings at a cost of $10... but hey I like your ideas it has given me something to think about for my new car due to space limitations on the skylines

checkout supply shops that supply panel and paint places they usually have all the gear there for the hiring
-
the thing is with the PVC is that it is a very thin type material only a couple of mm thick ( I know so is fibreglass but the way it is constructed is different) so unless you are planning to fill it with some sort of filler the sound coming from this will sound thin and almost sound echoed also this will also be harder to get a good seal on it... I have seen thick cardboard tubing this could work well as long as you roughed up the outside surface and applied the fibreglass to that that will work ok and will give a better sound ( make sure the cardboard does not have a wax type finish if you glass it)

Have just been down to the local guys to see what they can do to help replace the cassette player that is in the car at the moment and ended up walking out of there with half the gear but ended up with a nice Alpine H/U CDA 9851 and some splits for the front also Alpine SPR-17LS and hopefully in 2 weeks time will get the rest being a 4 channel amp and Type R 61/2" for the rear that should give me a bit better sound... just have to decide on if I am going to need the sub or not
-
another alterative is to make two rings out of MDF so that they are larger than the outside area than the sub itself (so that you can bolt it onto it) cut the hole out for the sub to sit inside of, then after you have taken your measurements of how long it is going to be, get about 4 lengths of wood (does not need to be very thick ) and attach each end to the MDF Rings this should give you a skelital shaped cylinder get some speaker cloth and wrap it and secure it around the shape of the wood frame making sure it is nice and tight, make up some resin and apply to cloth allow to dry (about 12-18hours) then add you fibreglass you will need about 4 layers of resin and glass once this is dry you have a totally sealed light weight tube, then it is just a matter of sanding and putty and more sanding then you can paint it or cover it in a nice cloth of some kind - to give it more bass you can stuff it with a filler
-
looks really good gives the car a combo look of BMW vs Nissan.... when you re-seal them make sure that they are completely dry as condensation will create more moisture... also Sikaflex is the best sealant it is expensive but worth it as it is probably the only true water proff stuff out there

Driving lights on 33 Series II
chowetime replied to Silver'sR33's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
absolutely positive.... took the covers off the steering wheel colomn and found on top of the colomn a couple of wires connected to half a fitting (hope that made sense) and it also looks like the light stalk has been replaced as the 2 screws holding the fitting in place look new... very shiney.... so I am guessing for the car to get compliance the original had to be replaced, so I am after the whole thing wires and all. -
ok have re-checked the numbes again and this is what it says Blue Japanesse plate chassis # ECR33-051375 MODEL GGKBRTFR33VDA-U--- QM1 K RB25DET 2498 FS5R30A RC41 the chassis number is the same as the one written on the firewall of the car with a line cut through it?
