  1. Being a sales person myself, these days you can not afford the luxury of judging a person by how and what they dress in... but you look and listen at the manner of how they speak and check for body language - people who are confident will walk up to someone and extend there hand in introducing themselves - these people are the ones to take notice of... people who stand back and appear very quite you need to be more observant and be able to listen to what they are saying people who come over in a rush and talk fast and excitedly are usually young people and you only have a 50/50 chance in them being serious buyers But I think that many sales people these days who brush people off have been in the business for too long and certainly need to think about some other type of employment because even though the many young buyers that come in may well have the money usually are the hardest to sell to as they are more informed as to what is a great buy and are more prepared to shop around for the best dollar value were as your more mature buyers often do not have the time to spend to cruise around and find that great deal they are more willing to negotiate harder at 1 dealership than waste time looking for it at countless dealerships and then find that they are back at the first place looking at the first car they originally looked at and starting the negotiations process again so the tip is if you are young walk over to the dealer in a professional manner and be very presice in what you are wanting and have a plan of attack on how it will be done and never ever tell them were you work or how much you earn because if you have done it correctly then you will already know what you can afford - by doing this it puts you on a more level playing field and in a position of power to better pricing sorry for long post
  2. well today was my lucky day first off took the auto out and hey Rep I think it was your mom's old one the white R33 with the Advan rims on it and M spec body kit... anyway it runs great very very quick but... did not committ to it because there was another car to checkout, another R33 1995 and almost stock this one has cost me a bit more than I wanted but I think it is worth it seeing as it is a manual as well... thanks guys for the input as to auto's vs Manual's
  3. The Lancer has gone and i have spoken to a few kind people on this forum who have brought to my attention that there cars are for sale which is good to hear... but before I commit I would like to hear other people opinions as to how easy is it to make a auto go fast I am looking at dump pipe 3" exhaust and I/C is this going to be enough to make this thing move it's butt as good (well nearly as good)as a manual and the car is a R33 GTS
  4. It will be interesting this week as Parliment sits and talks about the import rules again as to what will come in and what won't be allowed, so this sort of media coverage does very little in helping to keep a larger range of cars from coming into Australia, It would be good if Drag Combat could get some positive media coverage for this event to be aired on the commercial T.V stations, but unfortunately I think the media will want to show off the car show being held in that messed up hay shed in Perth this weekend, the media are nothing but pimps there business thrives on scandal and controversy and have you ever noticed that it is always the minority groups of people that get all the long playing segments as this is prime T.V viewing I think in 6 months time this will of died a slow death as the general public will no longer be "shocked" and "horrified " by the media covering this sort of thing I did not see the program but I bet it was old footage that was used once before with some clever editing
  5. well I have not found too much which is a surprise as a few of my friends have said to get a different kind of car as there are too many skylines around and they are common now - not sure if there could ever be enough skylines around to make them as common as a commodore or falcon.... there have been maybe 2 cars that have caught my attention but if I had to really narrow it down I would have to say that Steve's car sounds very interesting, I am however looking at 2 cars on friday both are 1995 and have done similar klms but 1 is auto which the dealer says that it is very quick for an auto ( I do trust this guy we have bought cars from him before ) and the other is a manual which was once a auto ? both are a grade 4 so will take both for a drive and see what is what I phoned the gentleman in Rockingham and the car is sold I don't care really if they have raced the car because the motors in these cars are very tough and are almost a detuned version of what they could be... but again it depends on the mods that have been done a stock skyline that has been raced is a fairly good car to buy but a fully worked beasty that is running 18psi all day is going to give me a small hesitation
  6. You get to talk to all sorts of strange people when seaching for a car the best one I heard today was from a kid that sounded like he was 18 yrs old (sorry this is not meant to offend our readers) anyway with my enquiry into his R33 which sounds like it is stock with no mods on it at all he claimed that the car which he has never taken to the motorplex and has never raced can do a low 13 or even a mid 12 second pass so I thought I would ask more power questions to our obviously intellegent friend, I asked how much power has it at the wheels he guesstimated about 300hp at the wheels, on further enquiries I find that the car is running only 5psi (I am a novice here but I thought that they come from the factory with 7psi) it has no filter no I/C.... Is it because I am a female that they think I am stupid.... or too embarrassed to admit that they don' know - just be nice if people could be honest - I understand honest - nearly everyone I spoke to all people who had cars for sale had never raced there cars and I was enquiring into some fairly modified cars
  7. I am the same with my Lancer... I know it is just a Lancer but all the same it is my pride and joy and have spent too much money to let it go to hell - the gentleman that has bought the car is getting a hell of a deal after I have seen what is out there on offer
  8. well I checked the car out and I was a little disappointed with the car as to general condition it had rust on the bottem edge of the rear window were the screws went in and some of this rust had bubbled.... then there was also rust inside the engine bay on some of the seam welds (not seen that before) then the gentleman had not changed the cam/timing belts at the 100kklm mark - I know you are all going to say that it was probably done when it was first complied I say why risk it... also needed 3 new tyres and a full service Something I did notice and hopefully someone can help out with this when driving the car the gear box felt notchy and then in general driving I could feel a small vibration coming thru the gear lever is this normal or something to be aware of So the search continues will check out the car in Rockingham I think as it appears that people who mod there cars are more likely to look after them... I hope
  9. Car is now under offer for $15,000 just waiting for the money new skyline now in my sights
  10. sorry I was joking I should of put a smiley in there.... the car looks fine and sounds awesome but it is a couple of years older than the other one that I am looking at..... I suppose I have spent so much money on my other car that I am not wanting to spend quite so much on a new one and not change too many things over... my Lancer has not many stock parts left on it, it still drives nice and goes great I think I am over the " lets see how much we can change it" so just looking for a stockish (virgin)kind of car.... though I am sure I will end up doing a few minor mods in the way of I/C and exhaust just not yet
  11. Yeah I think I may off seen this particular car advertised his is 104kklm has s/s exhaust filter BOV it is 1995 M spec and is asking $18950.... unfortunately I don't like the rims you mentioned about a leak test what is this - do you mean like a compression test - any suggestions as to how I can get this done seeing as I live 200klm away from the car and can only get to Perth on weekends or is there another way of checking that everything is ok don't feel like taking the cover and intake pipes off to check spark plugs ect.... what about mobile mechanics how good are they? and yes the price he is asking is $20k
  12. Hi guys I am relitively new to the club and I am in the process of selling my car and about to buy my first ever boosted car the car I am looking at is a 1997 GTS 5speed manual 2 door coupe in white the car has done a suposedly 107,000klm (can never really believe the odometer) the car has all the usual electrical stuff it only has a Apexi pod filter as far as performance gear goes it also has G-max type 17" rims and full Pioneer sound gear also has a very mild body kit and has not been lowered too much (still looks legal ride hieght) also has a Apexi turbo timer and laserline Car alarm, the car sounds and looks nice but I am unsure due to the pricing of the car as it seems cheap consider age etc, I know I have not given you too much info on the car but I was hoping that I might be able to get an opinion as to what sort of price i should be looking at for buying this car and what else I should be looking at in ways of possible problems the car is located north of perth any help here would be mostly appreciated
  13. Sorry for the miss understanding about the Lancer being faster than a Skyline, my Lancer is no way as fast as a Skyline, at the end of the 1/4 mile the Skyline would of kicked my butt, but having said that the Lancer has a lot of low end torque and is able to get a reasonable half track lead on a Skyline but after that it is all over I am just a distant blurr in a Skyline rear view mirror lol.... I have just located another Skyline it sounds like what I am after not too concerned about how many klms as the are usually incorrect but I do believe that there is a way to check the correct reading via the gearbox or diff reading??? Just need to find out as to how true this is and also find a place that can do it I think the people that recalibrate speedometers can do it for a very moderate fee The car is a 1997 series 2 GTS T 5speed manual is almost stock just has a Apexi pod filter (unsure as to how well they flow ) and that is it apart from the usual light bodykit, 17" rims Laserline Car alarm and stereo gear.... is there anything that I should be looking at in particular when inspecting this car...
  14. My Lancer is pretty much one of a kind I hate to think how much money has been spent on the car it has 137hp at the wheels and will do a quarter mile in 15.6 with traction issues but the top end lets it down and also the gear ratios are only stock which are fine for the 1st 2nd and maybe 3rd but 4th is just a cruise gear along with 5th
  15. thanks for that bit of info - you have confirmed what I had suspected.... this is the first turboed car I have owned and I am not really all that knowledgeable when it comes to boosted cars so I am not sure as to what to expect.... that is why it is a hard choice for me at the moment because I have spent so much time and money on the Lancer (N/A) so this is a very big step up for me so I need it to be the right car to start off with and will then build it up from there - the guy (car salesman ) is also trying to convince me that he can do a converssion on the box which all sounds good but how good will it be (finished job) or rather how good should I expect it to be ? anyway thanks again if anyone has any other advice I would love to hear it need all the help I can get
  16. Hi new I'm new to this forum sort of have been signed up for nearly two months and have been trying to find some info but not having much success, I have just about sold my Lancer today and before I make up my mind if it is the right thing to do I took a R33 stock auto out for a drive, result: low speed from 0 - 70 seemed sluggish and not as responsive as the Lancer but from 70- 110+klm the speed really hit in very quickly (much faster than the Lancer) Now the gentleman that is trying to convince me that I should buy the auto because the motor is less likely to have been used for drift or racing - true can understand that and also he believes that the autobox is a stronger unit than the manual.... Now I do much preferre to be driving a car in a spirited manner so how do we make the auto go faster I am guessing that the exhaust could be upgraded to 3" and an Apexi or maybe even a GReddy could help out with a/f ratios as well as a good sized front mount i/c is this going to be enough to get me better low torque and hopefully mid 13 quarters, or am I going to be needing to look at getting a manual and still have to do all of the above to achieve the times that I am wanting any help here would be very much appriciated
