Hi aurace - yeah I saw your VR4. Did you take my mate Danny around for a run? He said your car felt pretty farkin' quick! I had a great day, I think I've caught the bug... I'm itching to get back there with some semi-slick tyres on... In the end my best time was a 52.63, so I have a goal to beat now... heheh

Video as promised. (start of run is at about 1 min in) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5107100120231551417

Just got home from Mt Cotton. I had a great time. Not sure what my times were (I think one my earlier runs was a mid-54), but the quick guys were running 48s-49s or better. It's a very technical little track and quite intimidating. I took it pretty easy, the max speed I got up to was 3rd gear (briefly), 100 kmh. There is room for mistakes in some places but a couple of the crested corners coming down the hill into the hairpin have no room for error. It would favour a lighter car. Eg I saw a N/A MX-5 on semi-slicks do a 53 with what appeared to be minimal modifications (I don't think it was a turbo). But the traction of a GT-R would help, and my car (GT-T, approx 240 rwkw) was pulling well up the hill where others were struggling. The worst part was queueing up in a gravel carpark in the stinking hot weather. As the afternoon went on (I paid to enter the morning Come and Try session and the afternoon Test and Tune) the numbers thinned out though. I got 8 runs in between showing up at 8am and leaving at 3.30ish. There was only one other Skyline there, an R33 GTSt, and a few WRXs and RX-7s, plus lots of weird funny stuff too, Volvos, Minis, crazy open-wheeled things etc. I would definitely recommend it as it's not terrifying and it's pretty easy on your car. If you hung around later in the day you'd get quite a few more runs in too. I had a great time, though I'm a little sunburnt now... BONUS LINK A 48.7 second run in Danny's Escort. Video coming soon (once Google verifies it).

Hey guys, there's another Come and Try day on tomorrow (Sunday). I'm going, and hopefully it won't rain this time!!! If you see a black R34 hanging around (hopefully without any scrapes on it) come and say hi. Track walk-around at 8.15 and I think runs start at 8.30 until about midday for us rookies. Cheers!

Here are the dyno printouts. It should be noted this was an older dyno (not a Dyno Dynamics) which reads horsepower in shetlands, not clydesdales! The "before" result from this dyno (about 225 rwhp) was exactly the same tune that gave 226.5rwkw on a Dyno Dynamics dyno, so that's why I'm guessing we've picked up a fair bit more. What impresses me though is the stupendous midrandge I now have and how much nicer the transition onto boost is. They took it for some street tuning and Greg apparently now wants one!!! What was also interesting on the "before" result was that two consecutive power runs were quite different - the opinion was that this was due to the tune somehow not allowing enough heat to dissipate out of the engine. We did some consecutive runs after the retune and the graphs plotted almost identically, which is apparently rare for a turbo car as there is usually a 3-5hp difference each run.

Just wondering if anyone can fill me in a little more on the LSD on an R34 GT-T. As far as I know this is a helical mechanical type diff (my car is a manual) with viscous type on the autos. A friend of mine wants to know if this is a "plate type with ramps"? I was having a play around in a private carpark today (Friday celebrations) and a comment was made: looks like you need a new diff. What's the best way to really tell this? It's not spinning up the inside rear coming out of corners or anything. Also if anyone has any images of one, diagrams or photos, they'd be really useful. Thanks guys.

Had a white R34 GTR (funnily enough with the plates 34GTR) behind me on Old Cleveland Rd from Capalaba to Carindale. Had an older gentleman driving, with a big grin on his face. Two 34s together, made the dude in the Commo ute turning at Chandler do a double take... (made ME do a double take when I looked in the rearview mirror!)

you wanna sell em?? -
Fixed the problem, for now. Z32 AFM in, no dramas, and the Boost Control Kit holds boost great, once we got the wiring right! Plugs were gapped to starndard (?1.1mm), now down to 0.8. Also looks like coil no 6 had a strange "stain" on it, not really evidence of bad arcing but it looked different to the others. No evidence of hairline cracks etc. So we moved it from cyl 6 to cyl 1, after slathering it in Araldite. Also have left the coil cover off but put the top plastic engine cover back on, in the hope of getting a little more air flow around them. No more misfire since then but I'm expecting it return at some point. After another retune last night we picked up another 35hp and 50lb-ft of torque! (that's 26kw and 68Nm). Thanks to Greg for the dyno and Rob the Apexi guru from Chiptorque for helping! Drives like a dream now, if anything feels more linear and transitions into boost both quicker and smoother. Gotta get it onto a Dyno Dynamics for a final set of numbers but I'm guessing something like 235-240rwkw, at 1.1bar.

are the offsets right though? got some more details?
-
That's correct, 2 unused pins on the MAP sensor harness on the plug that goes into the PFC unit.

I'm after a second set of rims (plus tyres - semi-slicks) for duties at the occasional trackday. If anyone has a set they're looking to offload please PM me! Need to fit R34 GTT, prefer 17x8 front, 17x9 rear with offsets somewhere between 30 and 40 (I think this will fit ok). I'm in Brisbane. Cheers!

Took a few shots at the cruise out to Hinze Dam today. This one scrubbed up nicely.

lol i hear you need to budget at least one hour out of your day... but his clutches are worth it.

Anyway we did a workaround tonight (see attached). Not what it says in the FAQ (kinda) but now seems to be working... shame about the whole raining thing and therefore no traction in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th....
-
I have part no 415-A013... which suits the ER34... which has 3 wires coming from the MAP sensor and 2 spare pins on the plug which goes into the PFC. I printed out that FAQ and took it to the workshop with me at the time of the install and it isn't entirely revealing... I guess what I don't get is HOW the solenoid wiring is supposed to meet the MAP sensor harness, when the plug that comes on the end of the solenoid wiring doesn't directly plug into anything in an ER34 engine bay. Now I'm confused...
