Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them
jmac replied to ZigenGT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
what are they like? these are the 595RS you're talking about? anyone here have an opinion whether these could be run on the road? (or would i only get 5000km out of them like other semi-slicks?) -
... and doing timed laps of a public road is something to be proud of...?

Simple, just buy on a Tuesday... usually the cheapest day of the week in Brisbane and works out fine for me cos I do almost exactly a tankful (400km) a week. I guess if you're really enthusiastic and use more than a tank per week you could get a couple of 20L cans and fill them up on a Tuesday too. I just pay attention to all the BPs on the way to/from work and pick the cheapest one I see on the way home... sometimes the difference is as much as 7-8c/litre. Just doing that's worth about $200-300 a year by my dodgy maths.

that was pretty funny aye, he had this stupid "OMG WTF??" look on his face.

Great cruise guys, thanks to all who helped organise. (No thanks to any tools doing power runs along the street where we were parked.) We headed over to the beach side of Bribie after lunch, very nice spot there too! Random pics:

If You Could Pick Any.....which Would U Pick?
jmac replied to R34NRG's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I have one of these. It's not insanely loud, borderline legal I reckon. I haven't been pulled over for it... but I don't drive everywhere at 6500rpm either. Sounds pretty good with 3" dump and cat but has an annoying drone at about 2000rpm. To be honest I don't think one is particularly better than others, just find one in good nick at a good price whether it's Blitz/HKS/Fujitsubo/CES/whatever and you'll be happy, RBs sound sweet anyway. Inline 6s mmmmmm...... -
I'm in.

I'm interested - I just KNOW it's gonna be 2 hours I'm never getting back but I'm somehow drawn to it.....

He did indeed lose the rear end - a big tank-slapper coming off the second loop, he just caught it on the first wiggle but then dropped his passenger-side rear onto the grass which flicked him into the armco. He did a bloody good job washing off as much speed as he could though. That looked like a pretty quick car too... there's not much to em when you see virtually all the interior trim stripped out of them except for the dash and the driver's seat! Pretty good power to weight...

Ride height is about 350mm front and rear - the standard circlip height on the Bilsteins. The black rims in the sig below are 17s, the silver Nismo ones in the pics are 18s. I purchased everything except the camber kits as I wasn't planning to run a particularly low ride height. I'm now after more front neg camber but just for track use. The rear tyres have a fair bit of camber wear on them (-1.5 deg rear) but I got 20,000km out of them so I'm happy. With the caster kit we got it out to 7.5 deg. Car turns much better but tramlines a little more; it definitely changes the steering feel.

Hi Sydneykid, having done a few trackdays and things now, I want to dial out some of the understeer from the car and was thinking the best way was a bit more front neg camber. Just wondering - how much more can I get from the front camber kit (currently -1.5 at the standard circlip height) and can I get a quote for just the camber kit inc freight? I've been using the rear swaybar set to its maximum stiffness setting and front set to a "medium" setting. I was thinking of running something in the order of -2.5 to -3 deg front camber for the next track day (then going back to about -1.5 for road use). With the current settings it's working the outside shoulders of the fronts pretty hard. Thanks!!
-
Thanks Harry, it felt a lot better on the fresher rubber and the right pressures. It's weird how things seem to be happening slower and slower the more times you go around that place - the first time I had a serious go at it I was just too busy being sh*tscared. It was a shame to see that dude put his little turbo Starlet into the armco too... he so very nearly caught it!
-
Hey guys, it was great to see a couple of Skylines there last Sunday for the Come and Try/Test and Tune afternoon.... I got my time down to a 49.44... so getting there despite a not-very-limited-slip diff and a fair bit of understeer. Some more camber and experimenting with tyre pressures should be interesting next time!

R34 Owners, What Rpm At 100km/h?
jmac replied to SS8_Gohan's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
i think mine revs @ about 2800 at 100kph too. it does almost exactly 3000 at 120kph. it's a reasonably short diff in the GT-T's huh. there's probably some way to work it out with diff and gear ratios.... -
bass that is interesting. as above i'm getting 250rwkw with the 480cc nismo injectors, hitting 80% duty. they were the only option i could find without having to change fuel rail etc. i have the bosch 040 pump. those sard ones will come in handy when it's time for the next round of insanity (and debt).

Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them
jmac replied to ZigenGT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
wouldn't surprise me if it was wrong but that's what's printed, $250 sounds more like it though. i'd be very interested to see if there's somewhere with more of an online focus for tyres - my suspicion would be all the manufacturers have a pretty tight control on it... plus someone's gotta fit+balance them.... -
Who's Got Bucket (fixed Back) Seats In Their Line?
jmac replied to JCMarshall_Law's topic in Queensland
Hey Pat, I had a chat with my mechanic and the guys at RPM about this. Basically what Paul and others are saying is right as far as I know - in a 2-door the access to the rear seats mustn't be restricted in any way, so if you install fixed-back buckets you have to get it mod-plated and re-registered as a 2-seater. Maybe a better solution would be to get recliner seats - I have sat in a few that I'd rate better than the R34 GT-T seats (which I think you have?)...
