  3. i have 10 mm ones if intrested. gimme an offer
  4. Bump! Crank ready for inspection this friday but already have some interest.
  5. buy the 3 key guages you want then sell the other 2 to mates etc?
  6. What sort of pistons? Stockies?
  7. same shape not the same mufflers i used a stock gtr front pipe, cat and gtst catback and still i got 100dB! big difference! who would of ever thought a gtst item could be an upgrade for a gtr - only soundwise of course!
  8. Hey all, AS topic states, im after 3 N1 pistons for rb26, im willing to buy a set at the right price though. These are a cast piston, 1mm over i think (will check), has '24U' on the top of the piston. Please let me know if you have any or know someone that does. Cheers! Mat.
  9. Mate no ones giving out shit advice. They are merely discussing about screamers, thats what you do on forums isnt it? To ask questions and learn things? Whether you take it as gospel or not thats your problem. Clearly u dont like screamers so click the back button and butt the f**k out of the thread 'bro'.
  10. No, trust me im measuring right. The pistons fit like a dick in a shirt sleeve. Im measuring near the outside of the block, not say next to the next bore if that makes any sense. If i can fit a 9thou feeler down in between the piston and bore (far enough down past the ring lands, yes) this is accurate yes? same deal with the ring gaps. Rings in bore, push down with the piston a little to make it square, then measure. i had to combine a 35th and a 15th feeler...! Possibly the reason for the massive piston clearance is the extreme heating of the piston; expanding compressing explanding and then compressing finally to a smaller size maybe? Is this a fair assumption? Theres no way the bores can wear that much? ill measure dia of the pistons tomorrow. Thanks guys keep it coming if you can please. I really dont want to have to build a third...
  11. My cars got no engine now. After the awesomeness of the GOR id love to attend, wont be with my car tho obiously, might see if others want to attend. Cruise rolls straight past my house too! Dammit!
  12. Today i got pics of the conrod bearings and the rings, took measurements. Current 2nd ring end gap: 50thou ! Current piston to bore clearance: a tight 9thou (4.5 either side) ! And something else: The conrod bearings; the top bearing (the one with load on it) appears to have slight pitting, you can see the copper colour coming through - see pic. The lower bearing of the same set is fine, no copper. Apparently this would be caused by the 'banging' of detonation. Lower bearing on right, top on left. Yes the second ring has the step in it as its sposed to, so the shape of the top rings is purely from wear. Also the ring lands look like this: Measurements of the broken top ring:
  13. Piston clearance and ring gap i will find out tomorrow. I didnt measure myself the gaps and clearances when the engine was built, i can only ask the engine builder what he would of set them at... Yes the bores are slightly worn now, no 6 is slightly scored from where the ring came past the piston and needs rebore. All bores are glazed with some patches of cross hatching. Engine was run in on a dyno for its first kays, with running in oil for probly the first 1000, filter and oil changed within first half hour of running. Will get pics of rings and measure top ring dimensions.
  14. But will the reading be valid? Both top and second rings are worn, obviously more so the top rings. and if the rings have worn on the outside then ill have a wayy bigger end gap. Ill measure them tomorrow anyway, ill see if i can measure whats left of the top rings in terms of the step in the pic above.
  15. I got some! PM sent.
  16. oh damn man that sucks baaaad!
  17. Any pics? Are these same as the ebay ones?
  18. Im 90 percent sure the 2nd rings were stepped as well liek theyre sposed to be, but ill double check tomorrow, havent got the pistons here.
  19. But if they dont rely on the knock sensors how do they know if there is detonation or not? yes by use of the standalone knock sensor equipment but why mention the knock sensors werent working? The rings are blue around the inner edge, as if they have gotten freakin hot, and the outer edges are very sharp. I really dont think they are meant to be like that. Is there any sort of testing of the rings to find out what has caused this? Could there be anything else that may also have done this to the rings? Not for anything but this engine has already cost me thousands from the first build, and more thousands are being spent - again. I just cant have this happening again. Ive spoken to a few people and another possibility was dirt entering the engine, but from where? All manifolds etc are spotless, as is the cooler, the engine has never been run without filters...
  20. Hey all, Small Engine parts sale! ACL Race Series Head Gasket for GTR - $200 Nissan RB26 Headgasket - $80 Brand new standard nissan in plastic, should fit other RBs as well mayybe? All located in eastern side of melb. Dont mind posting. Cheers! Mat. 0400 558 030
  21. Nar no pitting. Check the ring gaps of the worn out rings?
  22. I did not proceed with the tune, the tuner did and told me after when i picked it up. So detonation causes this problem? Minor detonation over a period of time has pounded the shit out of the rings and worn them out like the pic?
  23. Hey all, After having an intermittent oil burning and low comp problem, today i pulled apart my engine. I found an unacceptable amount of piston slap on all cylinders... Number 6 top ring came out in about 3 pieces. This would explain my intermittent comp. Number one ring was split in half. All of the rings looked like this, the rest intact apart from 1 and 6: Cross section: All intake components are spotless, free of dirt etc, cooler was cleaned when engine was built. HKS pods. When the car was tuned, the tuner advised me that the knock sensors werent working, as they heard knocking during tuning and had to take boost out, it didnt read knocking on the pfc, but the tune was fine. All ring lands are not broken, acl pistons and acl steel rings. What causes this to happen to the rings?
