I dont know if you'll get big boost spikes from the standard turbo's they're pretty reliable... But if you want to know exactly what psi youre getting under load Pete should be able to tell you. He'll put an inline sensor in one of your boost hoses on the plenum side that reads the pressure level while the car is on the dyno and gives a very accurate reading of your boost level. *** Dont trust your boost guage ***

Photo Shoot - 1st Session This Friday Night

DAMN! That guy is GOOD! -
Sounds like just another night out at one of Canberra's fine establishments. Alcohol + D#ckhead young men + Attractive young women = Trouble

Oh, well that makes sense then... I thought that it was a Gtst seeing as Pete's dyno is only 2wd. I retract my former statement.

That power curve is smooth as a baby's butt... Very nice. Im with Leigh on this one... There's no way that a stock RB25 can put 212kw to the wheels with only a Power FC exhaust and cooler... There must be something else that you dont know about that was done to it in Japan by a previous owner. My RB25 put down 230kw at the wheels on the same dyno and Ive got a Power FC, 3" exhaust, Front mount cooler, Splitfire ignition coils, 550cc injectors + 040 Fuel pump and a GT30 turbo (only running 12psi at the moment). You might have a high flowed turbo that you dont know about, because peak boost looks like its coming on a bit late judging by that readout and 1 bar is allot for the standard turbo, they usually let go at about that sort of pressure. High flow turbo's usually dont look any different to stock from the outside. Anyway, nice result and a very nice power curve, lots of mid range torque, it must feel really responsive to drive.

In my opinion the RB20DET is a great motor and internally stronger than the RB25DET... However I have an R32Gtst and I pulled the RB20 out in favour for an RB25 and I have never been more pleased. The one thing that R32 Gtst's were missing was a torque'ier motor and the RB25 makes up for that. The RB25DET is NOT that hard to fit, it will pretty much go straight in with a little persuasion, as long as you know what youre doing (I wouldnt recommend attempting it if you havent had any previous engine transplant experience though). I did the conversion myself with some mates and the whole thing from go to whoa cost me about $3,000 (not including buying the engine and gearbox)... The reason that its expensive is because you need some things made custom to fit. You should buy a complete R33 Gtst front cut instead of an engine/gearbox package because you'll need the wiring, computer and a few other things such as the top half of the R33 engine mounts, cross members etc. Youre MUCH better off using the R33 gearbox as it is allot stronger than the R32 one and if you start modifying an RB25DET with an RB20DET gearbox on it, you will probably shred the box quite quickly. To fit the RB25 gearbox you will need a custom crossmember as the box is physicaly larger, custom tailshaft as the front yoke is bigger for the R33 and the box is longer overall than the R32 one, R33 clutch slave cylinder and a custom Nissan Navara/R33 Skyline speedo drive. If you want a front mount intercooler you need to get an R33 kit and modify it a bit to fit, but it will go in nicely. Also the R32 exhaust will bolt straight up to the RB25DET, they have the same turbo flange. The wiring conversion is complicated aswell so your better off having the R33 loom spliced into the original R32 loom by a qualified auto elec. You'll need a bigger fuel pump too, a Bosch 040 pump does nicely. There are also heaps of little jobs to do like vaccum, fuel, boost hoses that arent a direct match between engines, you'll need to put the R32 engine fan and pulley onto the RB25 because the R33 one is to long and you need to swap harmonic balancers as the RB25 one wont line up with the R32 power steer pump, alternator and air cond.. Anyway, from my experience the RB25DET is easier to get power out of and allot more fun to drive than the RB20DET and I should know because my R32 has had both. I hope I havent confused you anymore with your decision.

Botany Bay? Where are you? The best places in Canberra to take photo's are under the Commonwealth Ave bridge, The Corelian, on top of the Westfield Woden car park with Sky Plaza in the background.... Thats all I know of. -

I second that! Who can organise some hot chicks to lay on our bonnets? -
Its good to hear that youre up to date with the trading terms between the U.S and Australia but Im afraid that there isnt a free trading agreement with China yet... Federal Tyres are manufactured in China and not in the U.S and the free trade agreement applies only to the country of manufacture, if it was any cheaper to import these tyres from America dont you think that we (being the Australian distributor) would be getting them from there? As I said before, youre choice of tyre is obviously well researched and we welcome your custom.
-
Hi Dominik, You are right on the pricing diferentiations between contries and sometimes the parity seems hard to beleive. Please remember that there are additional importing costs such as import duty, freight, currency factors, financing costs, distributions costs, fitting costs, that does start to add up. In addition your local Federal retailer cannot compete with a one off importer who doesnt keep regular inventory, maintain equipment, provide staff to provide service to their customers. Also as the importer of the tyres directly from the US you will be deemed the manufacturer from an importing and insurance perspective and as such would not be covered by any local policy given any tyre issues. This is an additional cost that all Australian Federal distributors cover every year. Either way your choice of tyre is no doubt well researched and we welcome your custom.

Just Bought An Apexi Power Fc
Bullet32 replied to shredder667's topic in Australian Capital Territory
To say that tuning a Power FC without a bigger turbo or injectors wont do anything, isnt quite true... Yes if you have an aftermarket turbo, bigger injectors and a bigger fuel pump you will get more out of your tune but if you put in and tune a Power FC with only a bigger exhaust, front mount intercooler and maybe a boost tee (bleed valve) you can make some quite reasonable power gains, I have seen RB25's make up to 200kw at the wheels (mine did) and RB20's make upwards of 180kw at the wheels... RB motors have so much untapped potential. -
What did you get? Federal's I hope?

Street Tyres On The Track
Bullet32 replied to tjandriesen's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
URAS - Youre correct in saying that I have a bias opinion (it would be hard not to, working for Federal) but what I said is true, it could be bad if someone decided to take comments on here seriously, I believe it has happened before. No hard feelings though, Im not here to start problems. The earlier "SS" 595 had some teething problems with drifting but were always a very good street tyre and were still made to the same high standards as they are today however the "SS" 595 was re designed and the compound changed to better suit drifting aswell as being re named simply as 595. It is now a very succesful drift / street tyre and we are very happy with the way it has performed since the slight changes were made. Scathing - The 595RS is not an R compound tyre and is not listed on the CAMS list of grooved slick racing tyres therefore being considered more of a "street semi slick". The tread rating is 180 which is higher than R comp (50 - 60) but treadwear ratings dont tell you everything about the compound, the rating does tell you how fast the tyre will wear but the secret to the tyres performance is in the tread compound, tyre manufacturers rarely give out information on compounds as they are unique to every different tyre type and it would be like KFC advertising their 11 secret herbs and spices. I have driven on and tested the 595RS myself and it is very impressive, we have also had these same tyres on track / drift cars and the feedback that we have had has been extremely positive. There is only one way to find out for yourself though... -
Street Tyres On The Track
Bullet32 replied to tjandriesen's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I am glad to hear that you were treated well Tim, we do try to keep a very proffesional attitude and talk with customers on a one to one basis. Unfortunatley this kind of damage does happen to low profile tyres when they are run flat. It can happen with only a few rotations of the wheel as the weight of the car pushes the wheel down onto the inside of the tyre and the outer and inner lip of the rim act like a circular saw cutting the wall of the tyre. This is NOT a "Federal tyre only" problem as no tyres are indestructable. I hope that you are still happy with your tyres and that you will consider Federal's when you next need a set as I believe that they are the best value for money tyre available. P.S. For a street legal competition tyre please visit www.federaltyres.com.au and have a look at the 595RS as these are a great tyre for racing and track days, I personally have driven on them and they have heaps of grip. -
Yeah, I had tyres on my rims when I took them in. They'll take a day or two to do them so its best if you drop them off.
-
I had Jax Fyshwick repair my Volks, they did an excellent job - Respray, re machine (for gutter rash) and they even left the Volk racing sticker on it, all I had to do was say that I wanted to keep the sticker - all for only $225.00 per wheel. I highly recommend that you go see them.

Street Tyres On The Track
Bullet32 replied to tjandriesen's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
There are many drifters in the Drift Australia series using Federal tyres and are extremely happy with them. We have been to visit many events and had nothing but great feedback, there are many who have said that they would love to get sponsorship from us for next year aswell. -
Street Tyres On The Track
Bullet32 replied to tjandriesen's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
You are welcome to your own opinion but making statements about brands or manufacturers on these forums that could be classed as detrimental to the product is not such a good idea, there are many sponsors, retailers and workshops that take part in these forums that could see these kinds of statements as an insult or worse - defamation. Please dont take this as any kind of personal stab or threat I am mearly making a point. -
Street Tyres On The Track
Bullet32 replied to tjandriesen's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
To put to rest all of your concerns... I work for Federal tyres and I use these same tyres on my Skyline, it has 250kw at the wheels and has always been driven very hard on the street and the track, I have had 2 sets so far and I have never had an issue. I have also put Federal 595 and 595RS on lots of my friends cars one of them is a drift car and one is a track car and they have never had a problem. We also sponsor racers in the Drift Australia series and supply these tyres for their cars and we havent had any reports of unusual damage from them that I know of. In mine and my collegues personal opinions what has happened here is the tyre has punctured on the highway and has been run for a short time while flat, the sidewall has been sheared in a complete circle from the rim cutting through it. This will happen to any low profile non run flat tyre. Federal tyres dont have "weak carcasses" they are built to very high standards and are a quality product that meets or exceeds UTQG (uniform tyre quality grading) ratings. I feel that it is not fair to say that Federal's are a weak tyre or have weak sidewalls when this is clearly in our opinion an environmental hazard causing a puncture and the tyre being driven on while flat. -
Hahaha, This is really good...

Does anyone here own a white series II R33 Gtst with nice wide silver 5 spoke mags (17's), standard body, really low suspension, big exhaust and a Trojan sticker on the back? If so I saw you on the Parkway about 7:30 on Thursday night... Really nice and neat for a 33 and sounds sweet.
