  1. $22,000!! Thats a bit excessive isnt it? Especially for a whale... Hehehehe
  2. The only things that I had to change were the oil and water lines (which came with the turbo) put a right angle silicone bend on the compressor and a 10mm spacer on the manifold (because the turbo so big), thats it. Anyone who has some mechanical ability could do it.
  3. Hey, Nice effort - 200rwkw is quite respectable from an RB20, Go the R32's! Can I ask what kind of boost controller youre using? Ive currently got 230rwkw from mine but all I need is a boost controller to make 260 - 270, Im looking into getting something electronic for under $1000, but I cant decide what to get. Also $1900 seems like allot of money for a high flow turbo, I bought a GT30 / 71R ball bearing turbo from GCG - thats a 500hp turbo for $1780.
  4. Aawww, are you pregnant Leshy?
  5. Hmmm, Im very interested... I might like to take part. How much does it cost? Im not made of money.
  6. It sounds like you would benifit greatly from some better tyres. If you are after some motorsport orientated tyres, I can help you out. I work for Federal tyres. Have a look at the Federal website - www.federaltyres.com.au.
  7. Well... Thankyou all for your feedback, it will be a great help in knowing what kind of impression our tyres have made out there in the performance market. BHDave - The XL on the RS stands for extra load, which basically means that they have a heavier duty case construction than other tyres in that size, meaning that they are stronger and will stand up to more extreme applications such as track racing better and they will be less likely to have excess tyre wall flex. Scathing - I would love to be able to hand out sets of RS for everyone that wants them, there's only one problem though... They cost money to build and import and we are trying to run a profitable business and that would be very hard if we starting giving them away PSI_GTSII - Thanks for that info, the RS are a definate performer and have enough of a wear rating to usually last longer than R comp tyres, they make for a great track / street tyre. ob1 - Thats good to know aswell, the 595 "SS" are a great tyre for the price (I believe they are the best value on the market) and do perform well on road. Im not sure why you would be experiencing a squirming feeling, I use the same tyres and have been very happy with them but all cars perform differently and it could be a combination of things... I cant really explain it though.
  8. Thats great information, thanks Snowman. Youre right Federal dont have a genuine R compound tyre yet (although there may be something on the horizon) The 595RS does have a tread wear index of 180 which is quite soft for a "street" tyre as most high performance street tyres have ratings around 240.
  9. Thanks for that feedback Trust33. Our 595 "SS" is focused mainly for street use, they are soft enough and have an aggresive enough tread design to provide excellent grip and water dispersion while still being durable enough for great mileage. I personally use these on my car and I think that for value for money they are the best on the market. If you are looking for a tyre to use on the track however, we offer the 595RS as our motosports tyre. The 595RS is our "semi slick" version of the normal 595, it is made from a very soft compound (non R) and strong case construction specificaly designed for track use while still being a street legal tyre which you could use for normal driving (although I wouldnt recommend this as they very soft and will wear quickly), these tyres provide massive amounts of dry grip and are super consistant lap after lap. Federal tyres are sponsoring a few of the drifters in the Drift Australia series this year - Mark Phillips and Nathan Weissel to name only 2, they will both be using the 595 and 595RS tyres when competing. We also have a new motorsports series this year called the Lotus X Challenge in which every Lotus Exige / Elise competing will be using the 595RS motorsport tyre. Have a look at the Federal tyres website for more info - www.federaltyres.com.au
  10. Thanks for your feedback. The reason Im looking to gather information from here is because I know that there are plenty of real motorsports enthusiasts with real performance cars on these forums and to better target the high performance market we need to be able to compare our tyres with our competition. Your feedback will help us to know what people are looking for and that way we can focus on offering a great product at an even better price.
  11. Hi all, My name is Mick and I work for Federal tyres Australia, Im also an R32 GTsT owner and motorsports nut. I have been reading the "Tyres you've used and how you rate them" thread and its very useful for info and feedback, but there is allot to read. However, I am doing some research for marketing purposes for Federal and I would like to get some more in depth feedback on the real "nitty gritty" of motorsport and high performance tyres. I would like to hear from anyone who has or is using a motorsport compound tyre (either "R" compound or just a soft tread wear rating) for track use and how they rate them for dry grip, braking, stability and consistency etc. I would also like to hear from you if you are using high performance street tyres and how you rate them. I am not looking for feedback on noise level, comfort or looks, just a genuine non bias brief description on your tyres and how they have performed for you on the track and/or the street (good or bad). Thanks for your help, it would be very much appreciated. Mick
  12. Youre best bet is to have a look at the Just Jap website, they have compete bolt on systems for Skylines and some of them come with silencer mufflers which you can manually reduce the noise with a small silencer in the tip. Youre probably looking at about $1000 for stainless, but you only need that if you want it to look pretty. Mild steel will do you fine and they're around $800, with a stainless rear muffler. They are 3 inch mandrel bent systems with all mufflers and a cat, I can vouch for Just Japs stuff because I use alot of parts from them and my Skyline makes 230 kw at the wheels and is super reliable. You can also get super high flow cats, but they're not really necessary unless your going for big power.
  13. Thats a good way to put it. It is a great way to have fun but also to learn something about your car and how it reacts in slippery situations. The weather is apparently going to be warm and sunny so do bring sunscreen and a hat so you can enjoy the day without getting to roasted. I hope to see as many of you there as possible.
  14. We'll be going until about 5pm depending on how many people are around, we may go for a bit longer.
  15. Its an all day event, we'll be there from about 9am until 5pm and the BBQ will probably be from about 11am until 1-2pm. The afternoon Skid and drift sessions will start from 1pm. There will also be a Motorkhana event held by the MG club adjacent to the skid pan for most of the day. So you shouldnt be short of things to do!
  16. This Sunday 18th of March, 5th Gear motorsports and Federal Tyres are having a combined event at the Sutton Driver training centre - Sutton Road NSW. There will be a FREE bbq for all, cars on display, give aways, the Formula 1 racing on the big screen and an afternoon "Skid and Drift" session on the skid pan open to everyone for only $25 per session! Come along and have a snag and watch some F1 racing or drifting and a chat to us about Federal tyres and 5th Gear's motorsports offers. All are welcome - Spectators included!
  17. I dont have one on me but if you need an 040 soon I can get you one for only $200
  18. Bissenberger cres in Kambah has a really good christmas light house, you have to get out and walk in cos its amazing!
  19. I know where yours is heading Jayce, but I dont know if you'll have it all done by the end of this year... But incase you do, we'll have a 32 V-spec2 with pearl paint and big power category just for you. Well anywho, thanks for the enthusiasm guys, I hope we'll get this off the ground for next year cos I'll definatly be entering the best 32 Gtst category!
  20. OH YEAH! Stagea's! (Sorry Lesh) I think that people could nominate, as long as they have the owners permission, but they would still need photo's and specs on the car, if the person who owned the car didnt want it to be "known" then it would be uncool for someone to just go posting up all the info on it. But if we can arrange a nominations category then that would be cool too! I'll take thats a yes from you then Jayce?
  21. We need to know how many people are interested so lets have a show of hands... Vote - Yes or No (P.s. If you say no - youre not cool) No pressure. Come on Shell, how do we get this off the ground??
  22. Well, thats not really fair though is it Nick, cos you'd win that hands down. If anyine has an other catagories they would like, then speak up! I know Ive missed some...
  23. I have an idea for something that could get alot of us involved in some healthy, fun and light hearted competion... This is just an idea but I thought that if I posted here and asked for an expression of interest that it might be something cool to do. Ok enough dribble - Im proposing a yearly awards event that EVERYONE can enter with categories and unbias independant judges (ourselves) to vote on the best car in the ACT (and surrounding areas) in each category... For example - If you wanted to enter your car in the "best allround R33 Gtst" category, all you would have to do is post which category you wish to enter and at least 2 pics (6 max) of your car aswell as a list of mods, performance figures (no estimations, only true tested figures) and a small rant about why you love your car (you may enter more than one category). Then, everyone here would get the chance to vote (only once) on each car in each category that they think is the "best". At the end of the year the Gold, Silver, Bronze and encoragement award will be announced... Keep in mind though that this is ONLY for bragging rights, there are no awards exept for if we can mabye arrange some stickers or award print outs that you can hang on your wall. Shell?? The categories would be for example- * SAU ACT Grand Champion (most votes in all categories) * SAU ACT Runner up Grand Champion. * Best allround R34 GTR. * Best allround R34 GTT. * Best allround R34 GT. * Best allround R33 GTR. * Best allround R33 GTST. * Best allround R33 GTS (incl GTS4). * Best allround R32 GTR. * Best allround R32 GTST (inlc GTS4). * Best allround R32 GTS. * Best allround R31 GT (incl GTS-R, GTS-X and Passage). * Best allround R31 (Aus domestic market). * Best allround Non Skyline. (the following are for Skyline and non Skyline entrants). * Best Paint scheme. * Best interior. * Best Stereo system. * Best body kit. * Best choice of wheels. * Most Bling. * JDM award (most jap spec). * Track star award (most track spec). * Drift king (most drift spec). * Straight line master award (quickest 1/4 mile ET) ** * Power king (most wheel Kw's) ** * Best budget car?? * Best write off?? ** (These catergories may need to be judged as separate Models eg: R32 power king, R33 power king etc.) As I said, this is just an idea, but hey its something that eveyone can be involved in and we have a whole year to prepare! Lets have a vote on who would like this to happen for next year... And Shell, how would we go about getting it set up??? Hehehe
  24. As if we were EVER going to get a dragway... The motorsport world would be comletely abolished and banned if the government had its way... I seem to remember an event that was held in Canberra about 5 years ago called the Canberra 400. People lobbied and protested for years to have that event brought to Canberra and the government finally said "yes, as long as it turns over a reasonable profit within 5 years". But they only had it for 3 years until they shut it down because as they said "it didnt make as much money as what was spent to have it here"... So what did the government do then??? They poured the same amount of money into FLORIADE!!!! - Who here can tell me that Floriade (which is free) could possible turn over as much of a profit as an international motorsport event that cost at the very least $30 per person to see!? There will never be a motorsport complex in Canberra, no matter what government is in power. There are to many greeny tree hugging prats with their heads up their asses for it to happen. Canberra will forever be known as the boring, Politically correct, greeny prat filled capital. Thats my rant
