  2. I tend to agree with Ash and Paul. Not too hard to fit an rb25 or rb26 with std ecu, get an engineer's certificate and epa approval, then fit the usual mods. As previously stated; a high mount is probably the worst option, with regards to legality.
  3. I believe so. If you can't find a std import, don't buy it...........simple
  4. Thanks Jake. At motokana days, the tyres use to rub, but that is obviously under extreme cornering through witches hats and slaloms, etc. But is all depends on the suspension you have fitted on your car. Can you measure the current distance from the centre of the wheel up to the centre of the arch on the gaurd: front and rear.

sorry didn't realise it was an auto
  6. The rear muffler is the biggest restiction in the exhaust system (not that the rest is any good), so by removing that and replacing it with a free flowing muffler you are going to increase the power, thus it becomes illegal. The seller is going to say what-ever you want to hear, so that you'll buy his car, but ALL power related mods are illegal. To current P-platers (not sure if this is true) - If your car is impounded and the cops beleive it is making more power than factory, they have a right to dyno it and issue the penalty if found over the legal power-to-weight ratio.
  7. ANY modification that increases the power output by 1 or more kw's is deemed illegal. I also heard that if a p-plater is caught "hooning" the car will be impounded (as usual), but if suspected of having more power, it can be dynoed to check.
  8. Well then wait What's the rush, it's only 3 weeks away. As stated above: These regulations also bans performance mods, so exhausts, pods, etc will not be allowed.
  9. Can you post up a pic of your car currently, the one in your sig. is too small. I would like to see how the car sits, and how close to the gaurd your wheels come (from the inside) Here is a pic of mine. At one stage i did have 275's at the rear, but later found out they where not recomended/legal on 8" wide rims
  10. Hey Michael, i has been that looooong since i have seen your car, i thought it was black not burgundy
  11. Hey Jackie, sorry for the delayed reply. I am pretty much the same, working a fair bit, trying to organise my rental property and fixing the car. Not sure if you heard, but i lost comp on piston #3, after a track day, and am now in the process of a full re-build with all the "bells and whistles". Hoping to have the car back by August, just in time for DECA, but that is still not 100% .

That "bump" is tune related. You will find that the dip may correspond with the AFR running very rich in that area. Do you have the AFR graph? If so post it up, please. Why was it tuned in 3rd gear, not 4th? Even though the peak power is the same, 4th gear creates a bigger load on the engine, thus will have a higher probabiity of pinging/detonation, which should be detected and tuned out. Why are the axis' so large, when the graph is so small? ; are they hiding something? Squashing the graph generally hides imperfections in the tune (makes the tune look smoother, than it really is).

  14. I'll give you that one Ash but.. What was that other class?; the one that suits the shape of the car...... you know.... something "box"

    Missed A Kangaroo

For $8k i would buy a Skyline, instead of a Magna
  16. Why? Some of these VL's have awesome power and are great at Drag racing, and occationally you do see a very clean one. I would say the VL would be in "intruder class".
  17. After 7yrs of ownership, i almost have my car just the way i like it. Honestly, nothing much left, just a cross gearset, when the std box goes boom, and maybe a pair of race seats.
  18. Drag cars need ALL the side wall they can get, to flex on take-off and gain "off the line" traction. Getting them to turn a corner, at speed, is another story. Race cars that use 15" or 16" rims still have a low profile tyres, with thick side-walls, to help cornering. Smaller rims with low profile tyres equates to a smaller rolling diameter: faster acceleration, better braking and better handling. Rev210: If you know anyone that runs 255 with 40 profile, on a 18" rim, smack 'em in the back of the head . I think 18x30x255 is recommended, at worst 18x35x255. Believe it or not; 16" rims with tyres, generally have the same rolling diameter as 18" rims with tyres. You have alot more side-wall flex with 16" tyres, thus resulting in a degraded performance. The extra rubber on a 16" tyre will almost equate to the same weight as the extra alloy on a top quality 18" forged rim. But if you go wider you are also getting more rubber and alloy. Bottom line: If you are concerned about performance and handling, spend at least $3k on top forged rims and another $3K on good quality rubber. This only really applies to about 5% of enthusiests, as the rest of us will never really justify the differance.
  19. CNBF reading everyones post, but here is my opinion. To replace the engine you do not need to touch the fuel pump or it's relay, so put that down to a bad co-incidance and wear the $50. But breaking the top tank off your radiator, as he is working on it, is bullshit and his neglegence. That should be covered by the w/shop. Having said that, you also have to take into account that these cars are fast approaching 15yrs old, shit like this will occur and if you can't afford to fix it, them sell the car ASAP . PS: Forgeting to tell/ask you about such an important item is just poor mechanics, time to find a new w/shop.
  20. Haven't seen you in ages Jackie. What you been up to?
  21. Congrates Snowy, GREAT to hear mate! How did you go with times?
  22. General comment to all: GREAT to see so many newish people, to these forums, organise non-member cruises. Reminds me of how SAU (in Victoria) use to be, back in the days. If i had my car i would be out there with you all! Till then, happy cruising and keep up the good work
  23. Counting the days till my car is back on the road: At the moment the count is at least 60days
  24. Chris: Do SAU VIC members, that never competed at DECA b4, still have spots reserved? (ie: we use to keep 5 spots reserved (for a short period) for virgin SAU VIC entrants )
