How Do U Drive Your Manual ?
Big Rizza replied to r34_skyline's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Forgive my stupidity, but what could happen? Not that I go around at 100km/h on the freeway in neutral or anything, but occasionally I will slip it into neutral before I come to a complete hault at traffic lights (at 15km/h or so). -
33 Gtr Wheels On R32 Gtst
Big Rizza replied to masTers's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I can't for the life of me remember what the stock 33 rims look like. Know the 32 and 34's like the back of my hand... This pic says they're R33 rims on an R32, and the picture has no reason to lie. (Looks like it's a GTR, not a GTS-T to me. It will give you an idea of what it could look like though.) -
Buy a sh$tbox for towing. It would cost less!

I really have to stop steering my way over here to the Stagea forums. Every single time without fail, I convince myself I HAVE to trade in my R32 GTS-T for a Stagea. The problem is, I am saving for a deposit on a house. Then I get in a huge fit over do I want a house sooner or a house later + Stagea. Bring on your upgrades though - imagine the look on his face when he is smoked by a station wagon. Make sure to have a child booster seat in the back. And wear a hat. And a cardigan. Then laugh  Let the kills roll in!

Why would you want to? Twin turbo the VH45 and you'll be set .
-
I've heard you need to advance the ignition timing to get any notable power gains. It can also potentially stop engine destroying detonation that may occur under the high strain of drag racing.

How Many Skylines Are Daily Drivers?
Big Rizza replied to nare's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I only own one car (R32 GTST), so it has to do everything! -
I think we need a sticky of good nat atmo P plate friendly first cars as voted by SAU. Things like R31 Skyline, Pulsar SSS (even though I don't like em!), etc. are always being recommended by SAU members in threads similar to this, why no make one definitive first car thread to end all first car threads?

R32 Engine Bay Dimensions
Big Rizza replied to urtwhistle's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Any ideas what transmission it is running? I heard the vh45 can be troublesome when it comes to transmission swaps... but I'm hardly an expert! -
http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/skyline/ Complete list of factory skyline coupe models. Im pretty sure all GTS-Ts have the turbo engine.

R32 Engine Bay Dimensions

Dunno, but I'm pretty sure the RB is physically larger than the SR, so if it fits in a Silvia it would probably fit in a skyline. Apparently the 5.7 litre LS1 swap has been done in am R33 skyline before, so V8 skylines are not unheard of. V8 RX-7s too... What is the weight difference between the 1UZ and RB20 (or RB25 for that matter)? Would you be better off going for an RB25/30DET for perhaps less $$$? It would still deliver low end torque and ultimate would give superior performance. Unless the shock value is what you want . Let me know how it goes if you go through with it - the lack of torque below 3000rpm is getting annoying in my RB20 . I was considering an RB25 upgrade, or an RB25/30 upgrade, but this is way more interesting . Wack a blower on the 1UZ while you're at it! -
I think the GenIII swap is an excellent idea from a performance point of view. it is lighter and more compact than the RB, in particular it is shorter, so it should give better weight distrobution than the stock RB. The massive capacity should give rise to better drivability than an equivalent RB engine, particularly if there is forced induction involved. There is a group of RX-7 owners in the US who have been doing the Chev V8 swap for ages. Apparently it is almost the same weight as the original 13B (due to the heavy twin turbos rather than the weight of the tiny rotary engine itself), and gives far more torque than the standard 13B. Wack a blower between the cylinder banks and you've got one crazy fast car. On second thoughts, no, that is just stupid. Kill it.

Importing car costs: 1. Purchase cost of car in Japan* 2. Shipping, wharf, customs and agent fees (about $2k) 3. Shipping insurance (optional) 4. Import duty (10% duty plus 10% GST) 5. Compliance (get a quote from nearby workshops - budget $5k in the mean time and be happy if it is less!) 6. Tyres ($varies) 7. Alarm/Immobiliser ($varies) 8. Stamp Duty (varies from state to state) 9. Licensing and Registration (varies from state to state) 10. Also might want to include a service, wash and full professional detail as the vehicle will have been sat unused for months and will be absolutely filthy. *(include auction fees, import agent fees, money transfer fees etc.) Anyone else feel free to jump in if I forgot anything. It is a while since I imported my car... Add all these together and you will have your total cost. Usually if you import through an importer, they will organise everything Japan side for you (you just follow their payment instructions). It will usually take a month or two from the time of purchase for it to arrive in Australia. You will have to organise transport of the vehicle from the wharf to the workshop (if you plan to tow, include that cost too), as well as organising a customs agent (they should be able to recommend one), and organising compliance (they should be able to recommend a good workshop). When I imported my R32 GTS-T, the cost of the vehicle in Japan (about $3k) was less than half of the total on road cost (about $9k - still a bargain!), so beware that the additional costs can add up very quickly! And that was under the 15yo rule - full compliance will be more expensive.

Buying A Skyline, Advice Appreciated
Big Rizza replied to Arky's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I doubt at 18 you'd find insurance for the twin turbo GTR skylines as usually they will say not until you're 21, 22, 25 etc. Or just not at all. Plus, even though you said you were an experience driver, the GTR isn't really for young drivers. So, that would leave the R33 GTS-T and R34 GT-T single turbos. $30k could get yu a nice GT-T, or a little over half that could get you an R33 with plenty of change for modifications, insurance and running costs. If you want a GTR, you can get an all wheel drive R33 GTS-T. This will give you about 90% of the GTR driving experience with fewer insurance hassles. Also, where did you get $30k from at 18? If it is an ongoing income (like a job) then I would go the GT-T. If it is a once off income (loan from parents, inheritance etc.) then I would go the R33 GTS-T and leave the change for running costs and modifications - these cars need $$$ to care for them right!!! Funny story about insurance. I rang a particular insurance company in Western Australia (who shall remain nameless) when I was trying to get insurance for my R32. They said they would only insure the limited number of Australian delivered GTRs, and not any of the imports. When I asked why, they told me that imported cars cause more damage in an accident than a locally delivered model. I thought that was histerical!!! -
The difference is that the Skyline GTS still generally gets peoples respect, whereas the nat atmo Lancer is one of the most hated cars on the planet. Besides, my original comment was only a minor point in my post, and people have blown it way out of proportion!!!

Zero chance? Maybe for the current 2006 model, but what about the pre-face lift Lancers? 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES 2004 Mitsubishi EVO8 Nope, you haven't convinced me. I think you could VERY easily body kit a stock lancer to look like an EVO. Get rid of the wings, rims, scoops etc. on the EVO and I reckon it'd look just like the standard model...
-
Just looking at it should be enough to convince you to buy one! And you don't really get an RX7 based on bang for you buck. They are a pure sports car designed to compete with Porsches, and are expensive to buy and run. Having said that, engine rebuilds every 3 years for a stock motor is an exaggeration. The days of the NSU Ro80 are long gone! I think the EVO8 delivers more bang for your buck than the RX7, and is far more practical. But it is compromised by being based upon a shopping trolley, so despite its huge performance, stepping into the drivers seat would not be as much of an event as stepping into the drivers seat of the RX7. And if you want a practical sports car, the RX7s brother can deliver that! Plus in an RX7/8, people wont think your driving a Lancer with a body kit.

Ford F350 Lift Kit And 22" Inch Rims 8 Stud Wanted

Z tune would cost between $250k and $300k to get on the road in Australia. So if the new GTR is half that price, then $150k is about right. I think it will be closer to P911 money (circa $200k) in Australia though due to luxury car tax, import duty etc.

Ford F350 Lift Kit And 22" Inch Rims 8 Stud Wanted
Big Rizza replied to el_bichito's topic in Wanted to Buy
Here are some pics of what I am imagining it would look like. My guess is that the first one (minus the lambo doors) would be the closest to reality. But here they are: 24 inch lift kit  Hmmm... I serviced my car the other day, and getting underneath it is always annoying. Maybe I should go the 24 inch lift kit on my GTS-T. My Nismo adjustable coil over suspension just doesn't compare! -

http://www.oppositelock.com.au Try ringing an opposite lock store and see if they can order some in. Or email them. Now get the F Series shite off this forum! -
Love the front, hate the rear. What would be awesome would be to get the 180sx (so it's a hatchback), get the R34 front on it with the S15 rear conversion. Now THAT would cause some confusion!!! EDIT: I've been thinking about that ^^^^ for about 5 minutes now, and I have decided I have to do it!!!! I HAVE to do it!!!! No choice!!!! R34/S13/S15 hybrid would be boss!!! EDIT#2: Get those brakes too, making it an R34, S13, S15, 996 hybrid!!!
