  1. Hey couldn't you get the R32 with the 130-ish kw RB25DE? The GTS25 Type S or something? That would be a sweet P-plate legal ride! You won't get one in under the 15 yo rule though (i.e. the CHEAP way) as there were none made in 1989/90 I beleive... Happy Hunting!
  2. Looking forward to that! Got about 3hrs left to go on my torrent download for this episode
  3. Cheers for the response everyone
  4. Cheers oRiCLe, I'll give it a look
  5. Hey everyone, I am looking at maybe getting a Soarer early next year, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to ask some questions? A good Soarer web forum or something would be ideal. I want information on prices for modifying the centre command centre on the V8 Ltd models. I want to know what costs I will be hit with if I decide to buy one. Mainly I want to know: 1. How much and where to go to convert the TV to Australian frequencies? 2. How much and where to go to convert the Sat Nav to Australian Maps? Else how much to add integrated navigation to command centre in non-nav equipped models? 3. I've heard you can get the system changed from Japanese to English text. How much/where can this be done? 4. How much and where to go to add a DVD player integrated into the centre command centre. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. I'm only really after ballpark figures at this stage. Or even better, if someone here could answer the questions that would be sensational. EDIT: Interestingly, Just Cars quoted me identical insurance costs ($1826) for the V8 as the non-turbo six, both with the same quoted purchase price (arbitrarily set at $18000). What's with that?
  6. It has been established on multiple occasions that it affects WA only. Im pretty sure the Eastern States can get Premium from other suppliers.
  7. Only advice I will give is that if it's your first time importing, don't do it completely on your own. Go through a company like J-Spec or Prestige Motorsport as they can talk you through the entire process, and generally make it a less stressful experience. You'll probably end up saving time and money in the process too. From what I've heard, Prestige have access to more cars (about 60,000 per week vs about 40,000 per week I think the stats were but could be mistaken), but the SAU crowd have generally been more satisfied with J-Specs service than Prestige's service. However, I went through Prestige and found their service to be outstanding! (So J-Specs must be incredible! ) I wish you good luck for whatever path you take.
  8. I know the Track spec has Brembos, but I'm not sure if the Touring spec does. We only have access to those two high specification models. Other markets have access to lower spec models which definitely don't get the Brembos. There are 5 models in the USA (Base, Enthusiast, Performance, Touring and Track I think they're called), of which only the Track gets the Brembos. That car is likely a US model (based on the surrounding cars and environment). Or there is a small chance it could be a Euro spec. Definitely not an Australian spec car as it is in LHD.
  9. You should definitely get it fixed as the alternator on my old Hyundai burnt out after overcharging (over 15 volts) for too long and needed replacing, and that is money spent which could have been avoided. I would think it would be the same story for most cars. EDIT: Also managed to burn out the indicator repeater thingo, so I needed to spend cash on replacing that too.
  10. They had rumours of the hybrid drive train years ago back when the original concept was done. I haven't heard anything about it since, but it is definitely a possibility.
  11. I did a search on CarSales.com.au for Peugeot with keyword "diesel" and got 3 private sales and 26 dealer sales. There were also 6 diesel Golfs in dealerships advertised. So they are definitely around! But if you get a diesel, it's gotta be something like this : "Headlining the offensive was the SLK's new performance-orientated triple turbo (yes, triple) 3.0-litre V6. The SLK320 CDI Vision, as it officially known, was equipped with the latest Piezo Injector technology and a trick water-to-air intercooler, which enabled the engine to produce 286hp and 630Nm of torque. It's enough, according to Mercedes-Benz, to provide the compact roadster with 0-100kmh acceleration in 5.3 seconds, just 0.4sec slower than the V8-powered SLK55 AMG. Fuel consumption is said to average 7.5 litres per 100 kilometres on a mix of city and highway use. Translation: it's very frugal for its power." http://www.drive.com.au/editorial/article.aspx?id=9427&vf=1
  12. A lot of European manufacturers are releasing their diesel models in Australia these days, so there is probably no need to import. Even with the fast depreciation of the UK market, it probably wouldn't end up any cheaper due to the extra costs of importing. Plus compliance would likely be impossible. As far as I know, it's only really BMW who refuse to sell diesel in Aust (except in the 4x4s), which is a real shame because I've heard good things about the diesel engines in the 1-series (122bhp, 0-100km/h in 10 secs, 6 litres/100km) and 5-series (272bhp, 560Nm, 0-100km/h in 6.5secs(!), 8 litres/100km). Peugeot, Citroen, Mercedes, Audi and a few others are introducing more and more of the diesel line up to Australian markets. If diesel is your thing, there are rumours of diesel variant for Holden Commodore (Isuzu sourced) and Ford Territory for the next generation of cars.
  13. I ran some injector cleaner in my 10 year old Hyundai and noticed a performance gain after. A better maintained car might not have the same benefit though! Haven't tried it in the skyline.
  14. Haha that's classic
  15. Have a look at the Prestige Motorsport website. I bought a car through Prestige Motorsport and I reckon they have some good deals on their site at the moment. Some people don't like them on SAU but I never had a problem with them. My advice: Stretch your budget and get this!!! R34 GT $16500 http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/au/st...sp?StockID=3584 YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT!!! Alternatively: R33 GTS $10900 http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/au/st...sp?StockID=3389 R33 GTS $8900 http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/au/st...sp?StockID=3388 Happy hunting!!! EDIT: Note that Prestige are a car importer not a car dealership
  16. Here's the story: Last Update: Saturday, November 12, 2005. 12:23pm (AEDT) BP defends delay in going public over fuel shortage As reserves of premium unleaded fuel dry up in Western Australia, petrol producer BP has defended its decision to delay telling motorists about the problem. BP supplies premium unleaded to more than 600 retailers state-wide but has been unable to produce the fuel since a mechanical fault occurred at its Kwinana refinery. The breakdown occurred two weeks ago but BP only went public yesterday. Company spokesman Peter Metcalfe says service stations are already starting to run out. "There's around about a dozen BP sites have run out completely and I think in all honesty that situation is likely to grow," he said. Mr Metcalfe has defended the time it took to alert the motoring public. He says the company was not sure at first whether it had an issue and, once the scale of the problem was realised, it tried unsuccessfully to source additional supplies from overseas. Motorists who can are being urged to switch to regular unleaded until supplies are restored - hopefully - by late this month. The Motor Trade Association says the fuel shortage shows there is a need to set up fuel reserves in Western Australia. The executive director of the association, Peter Fitzpatrick, says the Government should stockpile fuel to help deal with any future shortages. "We are very exposed with one refinery where you can have it break down or get some contamination, and I think that the Government, and I've asked them to do it, to look at it before, should have a strategic reserve set aside for just this sort of contingency," he said. Source: http://abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200511/s1505215.htm
  17. I heard it only affects West Australian fuel supplies, but I could be wrong. Maybe BP buys fuel off other refineries on the east coast? EDIT: Here is the news report if you're interested http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...dpost&p=1710030
  18. Only markets which receive petrol from the Quinnana BP refinery are affected. So basically a lot of Western Australia and not really anywhere else. If your on the East Coast your fine. Cheers for the heads up! That's a bit far from me, so I got premium 95 octane from Caltex and added octane booster. One tank on 95 probably wouldn't hurt, but I'm obsessive
  19. Apparently the supply of BP ultimate and premium fuel in Perth won't resume until the end of the month. BP in my area already has no Ultimate or Premium left at all. Had to go to Caltex and get regular 95 octane Premium. BP is the only servo in my area with 98 octane. If anyone in Perth finds a servo with 98 octane fuel left be sure to share the knowledge!!!
  20. My family has owned a Hyundai Lantra of similar vintage, and apart from needing a new transmission at 100,000kms, it was really reliable. Right up until it started to fall apart at the seams after 180,000kms. This car never missed a service and was pampered its entire life.Another transmission failure, numerous electronic problems, alternator failures, various engine part failures etc. So my advice - enjoy cheap reliable motoring, but ditch the car before the magic 180,000km mark. I know an excel is different to a Lantra, but I wouldn't trust any 1990's hyundai after 180,000kms. Enjoy the next 43,000kms
  21. I think a mildly tuned nat-atmo 13B would be good in the old AE86 chassis, and probably a good alternative to a 4AGE 20 valve engine. The light weight body would compensate somewhat for the lack of torque, and the light weight engine would give excellent chassis balance. An RX-8 Renesis engine would be ideal but expensive . A big power 13BT or 20BT would overwhelm the 1980's chassis I reckon. Although some people like their cars that way . Fixing up the chassis to cope with a 20B would go beyond a "cheap" stealth car. But I love the 20B, so I will jump on the band wagon and say GO THE 20B!!!
  22. If we are going to guess, we have to be pretty speciffic: Engine; "VQ37DDTT" 3.7 litre biturbo V6 based off the VQ engines, DOHC, direct injection Power; peak power of 450 bhp at about 7000 rpm, peak torque of 600-650 Nm from 2500 to 4500 rpm Gearbox; 6 speed manual with 7 speed sequential optional Drive; 4wd with rear drive bias Body; 2 door coupe, aluminium bonnet and front guards, magnesium alloy wheels, carbon fibre aero kits as a factory option (or as part of a V-Spec package?) Price; In Australia, I'm guessing it will be Porsche 911 money as a private import, so around $200k. If it is released here as a full volume import by Nissan, it may be $25k to $40k less than that. Direct injection is a long shot, but I will predict is as not many others will. So if I'm right everyone will think I am awesome. Although now that I have said that, any chance on that happening is gone I'm really hoping they go for 500hp. It seems to be the magic figure in the motoring industry these days. Gallardo, Ferrari F430, BMW M5, Corvette Z06, Mercedes SL55 and SL600, all have very very close to 500 bhp if not exactly 500 bhp - it's the power output every manufacturer seems to want. But I think reallistically 450 bhp will be about right.
  23. What's your source? Or is that just opinion? My sources say the Camry is 4cyl only, if you want a V6 you have to get the Avalon. Mind you that was from a motoring journallist, and we all know they talk some crap.
  24. I haven't claimed for pot hole damage myself, but I remember an issue of motor (or was it wheels?) magazine where one of their long term test vehicles hit a large pot hole and buckled the rim. They took photos of the rim, the surrounding area and detailed shots of the pot hole itself, and the council paid for the damage after the evidence was provided. Apparently the pot hole was repaired within a week of their claim as well. I would definitely recommend seeking action, as not only are you out of pocket if it is left unchecked, the pothole may also claim other victims as well.
  25. Whether it is legal to drive or not, if it affects your ability to drive, don't do it. No point in killing someone (or yourself) in a car accident because it was more convinient for you to drive than catch a bus.
