The front end reminds me of the Audi TT. Except someone very fat has sat on it and squished the headlights out of shape. Flat bottomed steering wheel reminds me of Audi TT also. More similarities. Both have 2 litre turbo engines. Both have all wheel drive. Both have weight saving aluminium components. Both have histories forged in the battlefields of the world's toughest rally circuits. And both will turn heads everywhere they go. There is a difference though. The Audi TT looks like a supermodel, whereas the Evo X looks like skanky trailer trash ho. But while the supermodel might be good at impressing crowds with a slow, stylish walk, I think it's the skank who holds the depth of talant here. Life in the dirt has given the skank skills the supermodel will never know. Given the choice though, I just couldn't pass up a night with a supermodel, no matter how talanted the skank is.

Wheels magazine tested 270kW VE Calais runs 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds and 1/4 mile in 13.9@168km/h with 6-speed auto, 245 width tyres and a 10 degree C surface temperature. Manual SS ran exact same times but 1km/h slower terminal speed. With an extra 37kw, 275 width rear tyres and a hotter (therefore potentially sticker) road surface, I reckon sub 5.0 second passes and low 13 second times are possible for both manual and auto versions.

I thought they ran a version of the Garret T28 ... possibly... If I am wrong hopefully it will outrage an R33 owner sufficiently to post the correct answer to your question.

Stock R32 Gtst Power Figure (at The Rear Wheels)?
Big Rizza replied to {AMO}'s topic in Engines & Forced Induction
My R32 GTS-T has just a 3 inch HKS cat back and pod filter and returned 177.6rwhp. I'm sure you could expect similar results with the Trust 3 inch cat back and similar intake. See link for my original thread (including dyno printout). http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...t&p=1611204 -
Agreed - Subaru must be on drugs. Keeping in mind that Audi and Volkswagen are pretty much one and the same, I'd say both Audi and BMW kicked Subaru's ass in the engine of the year awards. BMW 5 awards, VW/Audi 3 awards, Subaru 1 award. International Engine of the Year Awards 2006: Best New Engine 2006 Volkswagen 1.4-litre TSI Twincharger (Golf) Best Fuel Economy Toyota 1.5-litre Hybrid Synergy Drive (Prius) Best Performance Engine BMW 5-litre V10 (M5, M6) Sub 1-litre Honda 1-litre IMA (Insight) 1-litre to 1.4-litre Volkswagen 1.4-litre TSI Twincharger (Golf) 1.4-litre to 1.8-litre Toyota 1.5-litre Hybrid Synergy Drive (Prius) 1.8-litre to 2-litre Volkswagen 2-litre Turbo (Golf, Audi A3, A6, SEAT Leon, Skoda Octavia) 2-litre to 2.5-litre Subaru 2.5-litre Turbo (Impreza, Forester, Saab 9-2X) 2.5-litre to 3-litre BMW 3-litre Twin-Turbo Diesel (535d) 3-litre to 4-litre BMW 3.2-litre (M3, Z4 M) Above 4-litre BMW 5-litre V10 (M5, M6) And… International Engine of the Year 2006 BMW 5-litre V10 (M5, M6)

Be Careful Skyline In W.a
Big Rizza replied to Flyying's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Someone should make a list of SAU trusted importers, SAU trusted mechanics etc. Steering someone away from bad service might result in a lawsuit, but steering people towards good service can't be doing any harm... -
AWD? All the hot hatches in the $30-45k range are front drive (except the WRX hatch of course). That quote was in the context of wet weather performance testing. It would not spin fourth in the dry (I would imagine).

The latest Wheels gives the new Mazda 3 MPS such a glowing review, it has convinced me that I have to get one. Some quick quotes: "From 80-120km/h in third, it can sprint faster than a Porsche 911 Carrera, HSV GTO, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Falcon XR6 Turbo and an Impreza WRX" "Exiting 35km/h corners (in third gear, mind you), the MPS will lay two extrovert black lines straight up the road, and yet does so with surprisingly little torque steer" "At 60km/h with three people on board, the MPS was breaking into wheelspin in fourth gear as max boost arrived" Sounds like an absolute riot to me! Perhaps not as sophisticated as the delicate balance between slip angle and wheel spin during a perfectly executed four-wheel drift as you might get in a more rounded rear-drive car (say, a skyline), but hey, that's not really what you buy a 190kw front wheel drive hatch back for is it?

Hsv Astra Vxr/xr5t In Motor Mag
Big Rizza replied to Busky2k's topic in General Automotive Discussion
The timing hardware that Motor use grab the 1/4 mile trap speed as the instantaneous velocity at the 400m mark, whereas timing hardware at the local drag strip will give you an average speed over the last few meters. So Motor will always have a higher trap than the local drags. Also, Motor's hardware starts timing at the instant you start moving forward, rather than when you cross the timing beams, so Motor will always have slower ET's than the local drag strip due to roll out factor. Having said that, it's only worth maybe 1/10th or two, and maybe 1-2mph at most I recon. And I have found no evidence to show that strapping Motor timing hardware on your hot hatch will transform it into a high powered German roadster, like (say) an SLK55 or Z4M For the record, actual times were 6.7 and 14.75 for the Astra, 7.5 and 15.38 for the Focus, according to the article text. -
Drift Spec 180sx Rb25det Or Sr20det?
Big Rizza replied to Bo05t3d's topic in General Automotive Discussion
That thing barely fits into a 300ZX. How the hell do you squeeze it into an S13? Very wide engine for such a small vehicle... -
Drift Spec 180sx Rb25det Or Sr20det?
Big Rizza replied to Bo05t3d's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Go an Ecotec. But seriously, for most people the SR20DET gives enough power and response to get drifting. It's cheaper and gives better weight distrobution than the RB. Only in really extreme drift would the extra power, torque and response of the RB be worthwhile. Just my 2c -
Dangerous Driving Nonsense
Big Rizza replied to (OO_The4door_OO)'s topic in General Automotive Discussion
You were doing 210km/h with 3 other people in the car and the road wasn't even empty? To use your own words - Some people are just so damn hopeless. I really wonder how heck did they get the license and who the F*** pass them Don't take my word as gospel, but I'm pretty sure the road toll has remained stagnant for about 8 to 10 years or so. Yes it was steadily dropping through the 70's, 80's and 90's with the introduction of ABS brakes, new tyre technology etc. But despite massive advancements in both passenger car safety standards, improvements in medical technology, and a massive focal shift towards targeting "dangerous" speeding drivers, the road toll has indeed remained stagnant. -
Dangerous Driving Nonsense
Big Rizza replied to (OO_The4door_OO)'s topic in General Automotive Discussion
Imagine with minimum speed limits. 80km/h road turning on to 40km/h road scenario remains. Minumum speed limits are 60km/h and 20km/h respectively. Granny slows to 50km/h prior to the turn in order to make it safely. FLASH! Speed Camera! Done for doing 10km/h under the speed limit. Makes the turn on to 40km/h road. FLASH! Done for 10km/h over the speed limit. In fact, that turn would be impossible to make without breaking the law on one of the roads. Unless you can make a step-change in your speed. Which would require an infinite instantaneous force. Which is impossible. So yes, impossible. -
Dangerous Driving Nonsense
Big Rizza replied to (OO_The4door_OO)'s topic in General Automotive Discussion
I can see it now... Travelling at 110km/h in a 110km/h zone. Small child leaps out in front of you from nowhere. Slam on the brakes! Slowing... Slowing... Almost Stopped... FLASH! Speed Camera! The child is okay, but you are done for 5km/h in a 90km/h minimum zone. WHAT A HOON! 85km/h under the speed limit! Hoon laws confiscate car. Dangerous driving charges laid. Big $XXXX fine. Jail time. Job lost. For the record, I have no idea why a small child would be playing on a 110km/h road. -
Dangerous Driving Nonsense
Big Rizza replied to (OO_The4door_OO)'s topic in General Automotive Discussion
My experience is that when drivers in Australia make decisions on the road, they tend to make the assumption that all vehicles on a given stretch of road will be going the same speed. When pulling out in traffic, we will wait for a gap. Generally it is a secondary consideration whether or not that gap is closing or not. Same with changing lanes. Yes, the other vehicle might be 20m behind, but whether that gap is closing is again a secondary consideration, not a major point of focus. The result is that, whilst you might be able to control your vehicle effectively at 20km/h over the speed limit, it might result in other road users cutting you off, or pulling out into gaps in front of you that really weren't there. So regardless of your vehicle control, the situation has become more dangerous for you and everyone around you. At nearly double the speed limit, had you not considered that a car might have assumed you to be doing the speed limit, and pull out in front of you? Appropriately, whose fault that accident is also becomes a secondary consideration when you are attending your passengers funeral, or learning to talk again, or confined to a wheelchair for the rest of your life. Or dead. Speed limits are important. Not just to keep cars from moving too fast, but to keep cars moving at a constant and predictable speed. -

Stock R33 Gts-t Coupe 0-100kph And 0-400m Time?
Big Rizza replied to ken21's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Pretty sure the fastest GTR out of the Nissan showroom floor would be the R34 N1. The stocker ran 0-100km/h in 4.4 and 0-400m in 12.6 in Wheels magazine. As for the standard GTR models, HPI magazine ran the following times: R32: 0-100km/h in 4.73s 0-400m in 13.02s R33: 0-100km/h in 4.94s 0-400m in 13.19s R34: 0-100km/h in 4.92 0-400m in 13.13 Back in the early '90's, Wheels were running mid-5's for 0-100km/h and mid-13's for 0-400m for the Australian delivered R32s, if I remember rightly. As for the original question, HPI ran the following times for the GTS-T variants: R32: 0-100km/h in 6.89 0-400m in 15.01 R33: 0-100km/h in 6.21 0-400m in 14.37 R34: 0-100km/h in 6.02 0-400m in 14.32 -

Stock R33 Gts-t Coupe 0-100kph And 0-400m Time?
Big Rizza replied to ken21's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
As an R32 owner, I would love to beleive that. But despite the weight gain of the R33, the power-to-weight is still a decent amount better than the R32. It is, in fact, dangerously close to that of a GTR! R33 GTST 184kw / 1370kg = 7.4 kg / kw R32 GTST 158kw / 1290kg = 8.2 kg / kw R33 GTR 206kw / 1530kg = 7.2 kg / kw Figures from http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/skyline/ Whilst power to weight isn't exactly a definitive measure of performance, it goes some way to showing that the weight gain is more than offset by RB25 power! -
Yes I have seen the SR20DET Puma before - looks sweet! See article: http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/A_0286/article.html But unfortunately I don't have access to said equipment, so I probably wouldn't be able to do it for under about $50k

Bah! It won't let me register with a Yahoo! email account - no "free" email accounts are accepted! How crap is that? And I don't think I should be using my work email account for building of clubmans...
