Me neither. Not after parking my ride opposite the Bells hotel & having some a-hole swipe the arse end of my Skyline. Prob that drunk they didn't even realise. Grrrrr!

Hey GTRR34, Do you live around Ashburton. Just before I bought my GTT I saw a car like yours in High Street. Would have been early November last year. Was a manual with some yellow decals on it. I've only ever seen 1 other black GTT in Melb. Cheers, Dave.

Canon, Canon & Canon in that order! I have an IXUS 430 which is fairly compact & takes really nice photo's. I am a happy snapper & not a serious photographer, so it has everything I need. The IXUS 40 superseeded this & has a heaps larger LCD screen & is loads smaller. Not sure about the other new one's as I bought mine a year ago. I have heard that Pentax are pretty ordinary, both with their poor quality lens, grainey (supposedly) pics & the familiarity of some salesmen with Pentax who see the returns. This was the feedback from a couple of dealers in reference to the Pentax Optio s4. The good thing about that is it's tiny size + it's considerable cheaper than the Canon range, but most likely for good reason. My 2 cents.

R31Nismoid, Any idea what he charges for a straight install of a headunit. (ie rip out old & install new)?

Nah, The Palmerston (on cnr Palmerston Cres & Sturt St) was a shocker. I must admit that I was sitting right outside the kitchen & 8/10 meals coming out were Parma's & mine looked the worst. Anyway, $19 was a rippoff for what I ate. *sobs*
-
I ate one these last week & there's NO WAY they deserved to be in the TOP 10! Mine was overcooked & quite dry. I heard about the No. 1 rating in the paper/net which is why I had to try one. Thumbs down for the parma for me.

So when is Melbournes next track day??
Mean_R34 replied to Mean_R34's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Thanks for th info Al. I will have to get organised if the 16th of April is the Winton track day. How many from SAU are going? Are the tracks crowded - it would be my first time on a track, so prob don't want too many "unknowns" around me - different if was was racing someone else go kart though! Does the brake fluid you mention make a big difference? Also, id there anything else people do to prep their car for a track day? Can you use a motorcross (full face) helmet? Thanks in dadvance, Dave. -
Guys, I'm interseted in checking out a track day so I can test out the car away from the public roads - more sensible, me thinks. How often are these organised, what is involved in getting your car onto the track (ie scrutineering), costs, blah, blah, blah? My other concern is that my car is semi-auto, so hard on the brakes on a track. It's not the cost of having the brake pads replaced that concerns me, but the possible brake fade that shoots me over the ripplestrip & into the fence. Does anyone else here "track" their auto gearbox? Cheers Mean

nsm034, there's a thread on your first qn somewhere in the forums. Has picks & explains each step.

Thanks for the good feedback guys. Some mixed responses. Mick, I have an old Clarion at the moment & it's horrible - mind you it's also old & I'm sure the game has been lifted. mitchy_ - That's a nice head unit, but I prob won't be spending that much $$$. Can you downlaod jpegs to the screen? Looks like a nice reso. As I said, I've had a couple of Pioneers in the past & they've been great, but I might try Alpine as I've always admired them for something & it's a nice change too. Hmmm...

Flywheel KW compared to RWKW? R33 Gtst?
Mean_R34 replied to benl1981's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
A Holden engineer once told me that, as a general rule of thumb, there's approximately 30% loss of power between the flywheel & the rear wheels. Basically 300KW @ the fly equates to around 200RWKW. -
Good job SkyRacer!

I've decided I need a new headunit & narrowed it down to either a Pioneer or an Alpine. Has anyone got any experience with either or both? I'm not looking at running any amps/subbies, etc, just a new HU with possibility of new speakers down the track. Speakers are currently factory. I've had a couple of Pioneer HU's in the past & have been happy, but the Alpine look like a nicer quality unit (aesthetically), not that I buy stuff with that as the major prerequisite. The models I have looked at are: Alpine: 9831 or 9833. Pioneer: DEH-P1Y, DEH-P7750MP (These 2 match the SAFC screen colour which is below my HU) or DEH-P6750MP. Only thing with Pioneer (ie P1Y) is I find the animation VERY tacky. Any help appreciated!

VL Turbo's so how do they stack Up!
Mean_R34 replied to CONRAD's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Sheesh... that car hammers!! @ around 80-100kms the dial jumps. Is that wheelspin or just a dodgy old tacho? Nice though. -
What is 'V.S.S' in R34 GT-T Semi-auto?
Mean_R34 replied to m-p's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
m-p, I have a 98 R34 GT-T semi-auto too & mine that switch! If you switch from Silent to Sports mode, there is a noticeable difference. The exhaust note adopts a growl to it - not as loud though as a cannon type exhaust you see on many Skylines & Rex's. You can tell the difference just parking & switching between the two, but more so when you "load the car up" driving up a hill, then swtch to sports mode. My girl gets scared when I boot it up a hill (she's not really a car person, unfortunately!), but relaxes a bit when you switch it to silent. If you check the exhaust just under the rear bumper, you will most likely see two pipes of different diameters feeding the exhaust itself. There must be a valve that the switches controls to toggle between the two. Mine is a Nismo exhaust (brand stamped on the underside of the exhaust), so I'm thinking it may well have been a factory option. -
R34 GTT Fuel Cut/Ignition Retarding?!
Mean_R34 replied to Myth33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
'Myth33' - exhaust is an aftermarket 3.5inch with a Nismo muffler. -
Thanks guys for the info. And thanks Chunners for the link!

Guys, Can this be done yourself, is there a manual kickin' round to help with this (I didn't get the manual with the car if here ever was one), or do you need to run the car on a Dyno to do this? Thanx in advance.
-
Just turn the aftermarket one into a plumb-back system. As I understand it, the only illegality of a atmo BOV is noise pollution. If you plumb it back, there shouldn't be a problem.

R34 GTT Fuel Cut/Ignition Retarding?!
Mean_R34 replied to Myth33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Interesting. My R34 GTT tiptronic runs a Hi/Low boost controller & on high boost it retards. Bob, did you get a stock ecu that was chipped, or a 3rd party ECU? What did it cost you all up. I feel my car has some good potential, but the retardation annoys me. Also, how long have you had this mod & what boost presure are you running. I don't wanna blow my turbo! -
drewecrome, you pointed out my problem exactly! I have an R34 GTT tiptronic & it's got a Blitz 2 stage (adjustable) boost controller. If I run high boost, the thing flies off the line, then retards then goes, then retards and then around 150-160kms goes hard again. There's about 3 stages of torque increase & fade. I assumed it was the engine starving for fuel due to the fuel pump. Sounds like the stocker ECU is the problem. What's the best way to overcome this? Do I changed the ECU, add a piggy back computer or get a rising rate fuel reg or another fuel pump? I'm worried that if I get another ECU, no one will know how to map/tune it properly (ie with WOLF 3D system, I've heard people in Vic hate them, but the prob is that no one knows them well enough here in Vic to set them up). Another qn... As far as mods, my engine (I believe) is stock, but car has FMIC, boost controller, BOV, 3.5" exhaust, Nismo sports muffler (strangely with sport/silencing switch). I have a couple of Defi A-Pillar recordable gauges, but the last owner ripped (yes ripped) the wire out & I hear it is a messy job to reconnect, so I don't know how much boost I am running as they are disconnected. What's the next step to getting better performance? I don't want to go too far over the top as I don't wanna blow sh!t up. Thanx in advance, Mean_R34.
