my car did a similar thing to what your explaining. on the manifold theres a metal gasket that attaches to your turbo exhaust flange.
theres alot of strees on that area due to it holding up part of your exhaust and turbo, lots of them break if its not tentioned correctly.
the gasket costs $47 from nissan.
to check if its blown, remove your heat gaurd over your turbo (exhust wheel side) and look under if for any carbon deposits(black shit). also run your finger along the bottom and sides see if you get any black on your hand. if so then its 99%chance you have blown that gasket.
mine started off ticking jsut slightly, then it got worse, then i was ticking sooooooooo bad. turns out about 2cm of it spat out.
to replace it, you need to undo the water and oil lines that connect to your turbo, pretty much have to take everything off your turbo so you can make it 4cm towards you.
