Women, 4WDs and carparks....... a recipe for disaster!
jlnewton replied to jlnewton's topic in Queensland
Well a friend of mine's mother rolled their Prado. She was looking directly into the sun the visor wasn't quite enough so she was shielding with one hand as well, went off the road a little, swerved to get back on the road and over she went. Pretty average stuff. My car finally goes in on the 10th of May to get repaired. Such a long wait! Got some N1 slots to fit also so it will have a slightly different look too. Just can't wait to get the bloody big scratch fixed up, makes me look like a bad driver -
Yep, the 33 with the VQ45 is a friend of mine's car. Good luck making it twin turbo, there is literally no room down the side of the engine for anything. Sedans here usually go for a little less than coupe, but in Japan manual turbo sedans pull the same dollars, if not more, than coupes of the same vintage and quality. And manuals are quite hard to come by in sedans, I know I looked for my series 2 manual sedan for ages, and when I fianlly did find one that was suitable it pulled quite good $$$ at auction. But I am more than happy with it now

haha, maybe I should bring the mini along, I could challenge that number

Inner Edge Wearing??
jlnewton replied to R34GTX's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Front camber kits are generally not required unless you have bent something. You will notice that on the whiteline web page they only ever list the front camber kits for skylines as optional or for club/track use. The front suspension geometry doesn't get as badly effected by lowering as the rear. Suspension for the 33s and 34s is basically the same with only a minor shock mounting change to the rear. I have always set my GTST and GTR like this:- Front camber -1.5deg to -2.0deg toe in/out 0 caster as much as I can get.... currently 5.5deg on the GTR and about 8.0 on GTST Rear camber -1.0 deg toe in/out slightly in, maybe 1mm to 1.5mm each side These setting seem to work well, I have never had a problem with uneven tyre wear on the road or track..... Hope that helps. P.S. The rear does have some factory camber adjustment, you may find this is enough but it wasn't for me in either the GTR of GTST. The front does not have any camber adjustment but after lowering the GTST sedan its camber was right on -1.5deg each side which was perfect for me and the GTR I fitted a front camber kit as I go overkill on everything with it  -
Have you got an atmo bov Syl or not. I can't remember. My old 33 GTST used to stall a bit when I had the atmo bov on it. Was all good again when I put a recirculating one back on.

The only complaint you ever hear about CES is they are too expensive, never hear a complaint about quality. I got them to fit my HKS dual dragger system to the GTR as I wanted it modified to fit 2 cats. Excellent workmanship and while I was there I was checking out there HKS style dumps for the gtr. I also bawked at the price and now have a set of new HKS dumps sitting in my garage awaiting fitting. But I have to say I am disappointed with the level of workmanship on the HKS dumps. The outside looks beautiful but the inside is full of rough edges and poor finish, the CES dumps however were perfectly finished on the inside, all edges well finished for a very smooth result. You pay for what you get....... But they do have a competetion dump and front pipe setup, I think thats what they call it, which is similar to the trust front/dump pipe setup for the gtr. The twin dump separation is much longer, and it looks very nice. As a side note, I got a 25 awkw increase from the HKS dual dragger, it looks trick, and is noisy as hell!

Saw a lime green 33 GTST coming out of the ICB heading north for a while. Also saw that Bayside blue R34 GTR with the carbon bonnet pictured a few pages back, pretty awesome looking bit of gear......

R33 4 door tailshaft longer than the 2 door?
jlnewton replied to benl1981's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I put the car up on stands, plenty of room then and nice and safe. I didn't remove the exhaust although it would have prolly made it easier. -
R33 4 door tailshaft longer than the 2 door?
jlnewton replied to benl1981's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
The 34 cooler bolted straight in, its a fair bit larger. The only problem I had was refitting the inner guard, cause the 34 cooler hangs a fair bit lower it was a VERY tight squeeze but it all went in. I actually did think I could feel a little bit of difference but honestly it was prolly just me wishing it to be faster, not really sure. I will be dropping it on the dyno soon, that will tell me for sure . I had the same problem, a bad vibration at hwy speeds. The centre bearing was pretty average and the tailshaft had taken a bit of a bump at some time. The one Just Jap supplied was fine, was pretty clean and it fixed my problem, runs nice and smooth now. I think it was about $295ish ??? I fitted it myself, took about 45mins. -
R33 4 door tailshaft longer than the 2 door?
jlnewton replied to benl1981's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Yup, for a while I had a sedan and coupe GTST and GTR, now I just have the 33 GTR and 33 series 2 sedan . Great cars, won't get rid of the sedan for anything! -
R33 4 door tailshaft longer than the 2 door?
jlnewton replied to benl1981's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
The only thing longer about the sedan is the boot is about 100mm longer than the coupe, the wheel base, etc is the same as the coupe. I replaced the tailshaft on my sedan a couple of weeks ago, sourced one from Just Jap. They assured me the coupe tailshaft and sedan tailshaft were identical. Sure enough, it all bolted up no problems. Hope that helps. -
2 x stock 33 gtst intercoolers
jlnewton replied to jlnewton's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Not really sure. I have a feeling the coolers are not interchangeable between the 32 and 33 like they are for the 33 and 34..... -
That would be sweet, with different classes maybe GTR/GTST 30,31,32,34,34. And list the mods for those cars so people can see where they 'should' be spending their hard earns.

What suspension are u using???
jlnewton replied to Col-GTSX's topic in General Automotive Discussion
1. Brand - Bilstein shocks with King springs 2. Type - standard replacement 3. Height - lowered by 1.5" 4. Reason - Daily Driver with the occasional track day / skidpan day 5. Cost - All new, $300 springs and just under $1000 shocks all bought at different times 6. Car - R33 GTST Sedan 7. Great setup, had it on my old GTST coupe and just transfered it across to the sedan, 1. Brand - Apexi T-max with king springs (FR - 400lbs, R - 225lbs) 2. Type - coilovers 3. Height - height adj. 4. Reason - Weekend driver with as many track days as my wallet can afford 5. Cost - Used coilovers $900, have been rebuilt since for approx $350, new springs - $320 6. Car - R33 GTR 7. Has turned out really well, I changed the springs as the originals were too hard, had the shocks revalved also when they were rebuilt, a really nice ride with some serious stiffness a dial away if required at the track.
