Yeah, went out there with the idea of taking it easy as I haven't modified the sump yet (new sump is sitting on my lounge room floor) but the minute I got out there I couldn't help myself. Was fun, but the brakes are a bit sad now......oh well, yet another thing to upgrade.....

Did anyone end up going to this? I wasn't going to go but a mate of mine called me up this morning wanting to go. I gave the GTR a bit of a blast on a couple of hot lap sessions which was a bit of fun, haven't take the R on the track till today. Didn't look like a bad turnout with a lot of different things going on and actual events that people could go in. Should've mad this an event on my calender. Oh well, there is always next year. P.S. If anyone did go.......did anyone get any pics, I forgot my camera....:oops

Women, 4WDs and carparks....... a recipe for disaster!
jlnewton replied to jlnewton's topic in Queensland
Yep, definatley scratched through the paint and even taken a fair scrape of the plastic away too, nice and deep. The 4wd was silver but it was an older pajero. It was just the rear bumper on her car which made contact, it was high enough to just graze the top of the front bar. If she kept going it would have gone staight through the headlight. -

hmmmmm, I know. If you look real close in the pic you can actually see a scratch on the lense. I am hoping it will polish out otherwise she is gonna buy me a new headlight too....hehe. Shouldn't have picked such a fussy car owner to scratch. -
I agree..... I have no problem recommending Gavin for all service requirements, 5000k services and major services but thats as far as I would go...... Modifying, and tuning there are certainly other alternatives. For that my cars go to Chapmans. He has a bad attitude/is arrogant, jobs always takes longer than he says, a lot longer, but has ALWAYS completed everything asked to the highest standard on my cars and my friends cars. And he isn't cheap...... but I think it ends up cheaper in the long run. Just my experience..... Where workshops are concerned there will always be differing opinions as we all expect different things or place greater emphasis on certain areas of workmanship..... Just when you find a good workshop, stick with them. They are far and few between.

Women, 4WDs and carparks....... a recipe for disaster!
jlnewton replied to jlnewton's topic in Queensland
Woah, just to put this thread back into perspective I have attached a pic of the damage......huge huh? I am more upset with the fact that the woman thought she could just drive away thinking that no one had seen her, thats just plain dishonest. Its sux to to think that I can't leave any of my vehicles (except the gemini) anywhere without the risk of someone damaging it and being that low to just leave without taking responsibility for their actions. People who have seen my vehicles know how I maintain cars and just because Joe Bloggs couldn't give a stuff about their car doesn't mean they shouldn't respect others that do. Seeing this mark on my car just makes me cringe everytime I look at it......can't stand it, just want it fixed now! As for the title of the thread, well I thought it sounded pretty catchy and it suited my mood at the time. I personally don't see the point of so many 4WDs on our roads, I am a surveyor and my little gemini van spends each and every day off road, and to date I have only bogged it twice. I personally would hate to have to drive one of these huge, poor handling, slow, shitty turning circle equiped fuel muching hulks around everyday. But people choose to do so. I am sure there are just as many people, if not more, who question the logic of having a car that can break all posted QLD speed limits in about 6 sec, or why we go modifying such cars to make them go even quicker (often with little or no regard to improving our own driving skills, upgrading suspension, upgrading brakes or tuning them correctly so they aren't spewing loads of rich black smoke everywhere under higher than stock boost situations) or wonder why on earth I went to so much trouble importing my 2 skylines all the way from Japan and paid for them upfront off an auction sheet, a couple of photos and a little advise from someone I don't really know......... There are a few things being said in this thread that I am sure we all agree are a tad hypocrital.... -

Its not that bad, just a nasty looking 30cm scratch on the front bar. Nothing that a good sanding back and a fresh coat of paint won't fix...... -
Was good to run into a few of you guys on the way up to Mt Cootha. Shame about the couple of parking tickets that were issued though.......hehe

Women, 4WDs and carparks....... a recipe for disaster!
jlnewton replied to jlnewton's topic in Queensland
Cheers guys, looks like there are quite a few similar experiences out there. Just sux that you can't even park for 5 min without risk, oh well. Sux even more that I had the entire front bar and lip resprayed before xmas to get rid of all the stonechips! Its all quoted and lodged with insurance now, and it was a good opportunity to add some N1 slots to the front bar too, hehe. Its not all bad..... -
Oh well, I got mine a few weeks ago. They are a damn fine looking unit at a reasonable price. I got the 57mm one for my GTR but only cause I have gone complete overkill on cooling, track days scare me .
-
Sitting in the carpark at Repco indro today, minding my own business waiting for my turn to get out. I had just bought a new rocker cover gasket for the gemini. A lady in a pajero 4wd, kids in the back starts reversing in front of me, back back, closer closer, I was thinking you aren't gonna make that...........bump! Just backed into me. Then tried to go forward a bit to correct and continue.!!!!! wtf! Knock on her window, let her know what she had just done and I get, oh I didn't even see you........what do you want to do about it?...... So hard to keep in the anger..... Oh well, got some details, if they are dodgy have the rego plate......whatever happens I am not paying.... argh!

Nice man. I have to say I was seriously considering one of these but ended importing my R instead. Very nice, might still end up with one of these in the future..... -
That is exactly what it is dropping to, the same as the stock reading for the GTST. One bonous is it does get quite good fuel economy at that boost level.
-
Interesting, I always run 98 fuel, usually BP ultimate, and haven't touched the boost restrictor although I am prolly running a little higher than stock boost due to the exhaust. Have done a couple of power runs on the dyno before and after the fitment of the exhaust and it ran quite rich up high, 10s and 11:1 if I remember correctly. But I did notice down low in the revs in ran leanish then on boost it richened up quite a lot. If all goes well I will get a chance today to try restarting it. Hope that is it....
-
hmmmmm. Mine is happening quite frequently, and just occurs during normal driving. I just go to give it a little squirt every now and then and it does doesn't feel like it wants to go. Check the boost guage and sure enough its only half way. Might be a good excuse to get a powerfc then huh . Next time it happens I will turn it off and restart to see if it has any effect. Cheers

I have been noticing of late my car (33 GTR) has been feeling quite sluggish. Put it down to getting too used to it and my clutch is a little average atm. But under closer inspection I have been noticing that most of the time now my car isn't coming on to boost as it should. My car is stock except for a HKS dual dragger exhaust, including front pipes. Everything else is untouched. When the car feels strong the stock boost guage goes up to a couple of mm under the +7 mark but when the car feels sluggish the highest it gets to is the half way graduation mark which would be +3.5 I suppose. Sometimes its good and other times it feels sluggish. Any ideas as to what is causing this inconsistant boost problem? I am thinking a boost leak somewhere atm, although I can't really hear anything. Could this problem be caused by a dodgy actuator or wastegate? or maybe something more serious. The car otherwise is running perfectly. Thanks in advance....

I think I need a little credit for helping you fit the gear here......
