Best value brake upgrade for GTS-t
jlnewton replied to B-Man's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I have found the Bendix Ultimates (F&R) pretty good so far with the 4000series DBA rotors (F&R). They withstand the 7 lap sprints around Queensland Raceway no problem, and they are cheap. Which is why I got them, I had run out of money with the other mods, but they are the single dustiest pad I have ever used. Have to clean the wheels every week now, and I only do about 200-300km a week. And my wheel are not the easiest to clean! -
How much does your Skyline weigh??
jlnewton replied to RNS11Z's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
2.2 pounds to every kilo I think. -
Was a good day, great turnout. See you all at the next one.

Can't remember how much mine cost but I ended up getting the 3M carbon-black. Supposed to never fade, bubble etc etc. I am sure it was around $300 though.

Just went for my first drive in an R33 GTR! Thanks to 7illa. Very nice. They are obviously very simliar to the GTST to drive, they just the steering is a little heavier, clutch is a little heavier and the power delivery is a little stronger and more linear. And it sounds quite different, engine more angry at full throttle. This example was very straight and very standard, not even a hint of a shopping trolley dent. All the chassis rails were perfect not squashed like some and all the seams looked perfect. Can't wait till settlement!

Yeah, I went to Fulcrum Stafford, their labour costs are ridiculous, good quality gear just insane labour costs. It is that easy, I would say 30min tops per side. They are a bastard to adjust though. Still need to get a wheel alignment afterwards though. Jack car up, remove wheel, remove bolt which connects shock to lower wishbone, undo upper/outer wishbone nut/bolt, slide assemble out (if it hasn't corroded in), all falls apart, slide new camber pin/bushes into place with plenty of provided silicon grease, put it back together. Easy!

I have organised to go for a drive in a 33 GTR tomorrow, and I am also going to have a look around the yards tomorow and try and scam a ride or two. Should be having a look at a 32 V-spec next weekend also. Should be fun. My significant other has offered to sell her car so we could have his and her skylines, she would have the GTST of course. That would be pretty cool. Already checked out insurance and possible repairs, all is good on that front, even though I hate giving so much money to insurance companies when I have never made a claim. I would love a 34 thats just too much money and chances are I would loose heaps more due to depreciation as the 32 and to a lesser extent the 33 have already dropped most of there value. I saw a black 34 Nur spec advertised somewhere for $170 000! There is a black 34 in the for sale section for $75 000. Still alot though, could have a nice 33 with a few mods for that.

Yeah, thanks guys. I have definately been leaning towards the GTR option. My thoughts were just that, I could spend the money on the GTST but in reality when finished I would probably be at the same level as a GTR with basic mods. I figure the GTR would be easier to extract performance from than the GTST. I can't wait to go for a drive in a few, as I haven't even been a passenger in one to date so I really don't know the difference. Three Nil in favour of the GTR. MMMM. I have to give up the sunroof though!

Interested, where in QLD are you? I am in Brissie. Any pics available?

I need some help here guys. I have just sold an investment property today and I have decided it is time to go fast. I have a dilemma though. Should I continue to mod my R33 GTST or go the GTR route. I have become very attached to my GTST but when I bought it, over 2 years ago now, there wasn't too many around, but now they are everywhere. Anyway I enjoy occasionally belting down the 1/4 and try and go to the sprint meets held every month at Queensland raceway. What do you think. If I keep the GTST I will probably spend $10k on finishing it off or buy a GTR put a full exhaust, air filter, powerfc, oil cooler and probably be at the same level, track time wise. Haven't decided between a 32 or 33 GTR yet, would love a 34 but they are still a little too much, I still want to buy another property afterwards. What do you think, keep modding the GTST or go the GTR???????

Yeah, I have been on my opens for 6 yrs now, have had plenty of fines and had my license suspended once. All this while driving minis and geminis. In the two years of Skyline ownership I haven't lost a point, oh yeah have never been in an accident either.

Whats the deal?!, working on Mountain/GT cruise day. Oh well, if you feel the need to hit the mountains you know who to call, although I am pretty busy at the moment but can usually find a bit of time for a quick run.

I got one of those letters a few months ago! Pretty funny. As it turned out I already had a motor in being rebuilt, $2500 later, no more smoke from the Gemini. I have to say I was really pissed when I got that letter as I do regularly maintain all my cars and I felt it quite insulting to get the letter when honestly, there wouldn't be a to many BCC busses getting around blowing less smoke into the atmosphere than the Gemini was at that time. I would like a dollar every time I followed a boosted import belching rich fuel smoke into the atmoshpere because they are too cheap to boost their car properly (ie. adjust the A/F mixture properly). Yeah, report a smokey vehicle, but remember I don't know too many people who would be able to swap/rebuilt a motor the instant it starts smoking. If I had got a second letter during the 2 months it took me to organise a motor rebuild, raise the funds and get time off work and had to get a full machinery at my cost because of it, I would have been super pissed. Especially considering it took the QLD Transport department 3 months from the sighting to actually get the letter to me!

I believe Skyline Imports at logan just finished a replica using genuine Autech panels etc. It was in one of the recent HPI mags, not a bad job either.

Advice on slotted rotors
jlnewton replied to nismo_au's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yeah, I put the slotted 4000 DBA rotors on about 3 month back now I think, front and rear. I since have done about two track days at Queensland Raceway (which equates to about 35 laps) and I am very happy with the result. We do sets of 7 lap sprints and have yet to experience any fade. Last weekend I was there and the first set was in 30+ degree heat and there was still no problem. The last set of the day I really gave them a hard time stomping on the brakes and still no fade (and took 1.3 sec of my PB!). So if you have a daily driver, and don't mind the odd track day I highly recommend the DBA club spec rotors. They work very nicely. -
9am start is fine, now I just have to figure out whether to take the Skyline or the Gemini van. MMMMMM

I have an invetment property on the market now, if you still have it when it sells I will be interested. If it is gone before then bad luck to me, good luck with the sale. Edit: PM'd

That not too bad. I have just sold an investment property and made a tidy profit and am currently toying with the idea of buying a GTR. That insurance you quote is less than a grand more than what I pay now for my GTST and I am 26 with a rating 1. I though it would be worse than that. That is one more for the for column. Lets see, 1000 fors and 1 against for buying a GTR. MMMMMM, might have a GTR yet before the years out. I travel around the Northside quite a bit, used to live in Caboolture and still go up there a bit to see the folks. Maybe I shall see you around up there!

Badges are a real no no. If you know what you are talking about its not that hard to pick a fake one unless they have gone to great trouble to change front and rear guards. I have a GTR style front with m-spec side skirts and a gracer rear wing. I really don't like series one front bars on the 33 but that just me. I would never dream of sticking a GTR badge on it though. Whats the point? Its not a GTR, its a nice Skyline GTST!

Looking for a set of 17x8 front and 17x8 or 17x9 rear rims for my 33 GTST. They are going to be used as a second set for track use so minor scratches are not a problem. Whats out there? Cheers

The Suncorp bank teller said it should 'hopefully' be in by tonight. How can it take so long, I was at the bank at 9:20am!
