Poll: What happened to your first car?
jlnewton replied to Duncan's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Mine was a yellow 77 leyland mini s. 998cc of raw power! Did the motor, put flat top pistons, o'sized valves, port'n'polish, extractors, 1.75" exhaust with extractors, and twin 1.25" SUs, and 30/70 cam and still was slow. Cornered like a champion though. Sold it to my sister when I upgraded to a 72 GT clubman mini, now that goes alright and corners! Only put one dent in the yellow machine. One very cranky Ex saw me driving around with another girl in the car and proceeded run up my arse, very nice. Still see it getting around 7 years on and it still has the same dent in the boot! -
Thats one radio to Micheal. Can't do a Nebo run before 20th, saving myself for the sprints! So much fun, are you going to make it out this time??
-
I have seen a few go for about half that. I have seen them polished, looked pretty cool. Definately the best of the GTR wheels!
-
I am with Suncorp, they were the cheapest I could find and I am up near the $1300 per year with no mods listed on the policy yet. When I re-register the mini it will be going with shannons and then I can insure the skyline with them. Last time I spoke with them they only did older cars but said they would do another newer car if you had an older car insured with them already. Have they changed their policy since I spoke with them last?

Was anyone from here in a silver 33 GTST near the Mitchelton high school Saturday morning about 7:30am dropping some fairly large burnouts. Bit early for that sort of action isn't it?

I want in, can give you the money at the GT cruise.

If any one needs a a little Uniden CB I have two, but can get hold of four, as we use them at work. They are boomerangs of course.

Best street semi slick tyre
jlnewton replied to Clint32's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
They are great prices. I might have to look into these Bridgestones as the prices seem very good and Just looking through my HPI Mags there seems to be alot of Japanese circuit cars using these RE540s street semi-slicks. The cheapest I have come up with here in Brissie is this:- 235/45 R17 Falken Azenis.................$430ea Dunlop D01J (soft).........$460ea Dunlop DO2G (med).......$460ea Does this guy ship interstate? if so does he have a email address I could use to contact him? -
I should be there, sounds great, I'll confirm closer to the date.

Rotor Size Legal Limits
jlnewton replied to Gester's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Are the thicknesses mentioned on DBAs site, for their rotors, not OEM rotors? They have listed for a 33 gtst; front - original thickness 32mm; replacement thickness 30mm rear - original thickness 18mm; replacement thickness 16mm I was under the impression that they were the same??? They are supposed to be replacement rotors. If the DBA fronts are thicker, and this is probably were MIDAS got their info from, then that could cause a bit of confusion. What is the answer?? -
Rotor Size Legal Limits
jlnewton replied to Gester's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
It wouldn't be a great idea running around too long on rotors that are under their tolerance, especially when putting a harder wearing/performances pads on, as these will wear the rotor even quicker and nasty things could happen (rotors cracking or shearing off sections if really bad). Should be able to pickup rotors cheaper than that though. I got my DBA slotted 4000 series rotors, front and rear, for a little over $800 (Group buy through SAU), so standard replacements shouldn't be more than that. Get new rotors and I will see you at the next Q.R. Sprint meet!!?? -
I worked out mine last night when I filled up and I got 11.99L/100km, lets say 12. Thats probably 2/3 city driving and 1/3 highway driving and certainly plenty of boosting in there. I am happy with that, I usually get about 450km to a tank before I chicken out and fill up.

I have to say I love my sunroof, looks very cool. I have had no problems with leaks but it is a very tight squeeze on track days with the helmut on.

Endless or Bendex Ultimate Pads??
jlnewton replied to NA_R33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I went for the Bendix Ultimate as I was running out of money at the time. They went well at the last track day at Queensland raceway, but yeah a set of RD74s would be nice, alot of the guys out there use them. And yeah, the ultimates are the dustiest pads I have ever used! -
I am a certainty aswell.
-
I am currently running -1.5 deg camber on the front which is great for road use, even tyre wear and stuff. Went to Queensland Raceway on the weekend and really gave the sidewalls a workout. Next time I go out will try -2 maybe -2.5 with some semi-slicks and see what kind of corner speed I can hold. The A539s were melting nicely! I have only had experience with the whiteline front camber kit so can't give you a comparison there.
-
To be honest I can't remember. I would have to sift through the boxes looking for numbers in a maize a Japanese symbols. I do remember when researching the topic before lashing out that they had more adjustment, which is why I got the cusco rear camber adj, and cusco front caster adj. However I went the whiteline bush-type camber adjustment for the front as all the camber arms like cusco and jic only allowed stepped adjustment which didn't allow fine tuning to even out the left and right sides, although the combination of the two could be good, Bulk adjustment with the arms, fine adjustment with the bush. One other advantage with the cusco gear is ease of adjustment, any adjustment takes 5 min, the whiteline camber bush at the front is a real prick to get at, and fine tuning an adjustment can take ages. That being said the caster bush and lower rear camber bush would be really easy to access so its probably an unfair comparison. Weight is negligible, but is slightly lighter, and you also get to remove some bushes all together with the cusco stuff.

It was a great day! I managed a 1min 05.86s for my first time effort which I was happy with. Can't wait for another go at it. Had a bit of a problem fitting my head with a helmut on under the sunroof though but didn't really notice it while driving. I'll have to grab more photos of you Jay, when your able. Photos turned out really well.

Mine were the carbon fibre 'look' kenwoods aswell. Here is a pic of my passenger door with the factory tweeter location in the A pillar. Managed to squeeze an infinity kappa tweeter behind there, very tight though. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/at...=&postid=328659

Hey Erin, I ran a 14.18 with only a pod filter and cat back exhaust and 235 tyres. 14.15 is definately possible.
