Oh no!! Not good!! Need something stronger now. Maybe something like the OS Giken 5 gear set upgrade. Not a cheap item! I thought mostly 3rd gear goes on a GTR box not second. Were you just trying to accelerate or something more like clutching it? Hope my box keeps holding...... runnning that redline gear oil in it - that will hold it together won't it..... (I'm expecting alot from an oil arn't I hahaha) What are you thinking of doing now R32-GTS, having 600hp has it down side don't it? cheers Adam

I think I'II keep my hands right away............ way away Wow Brad, you really went all out when you did your build, very nice setup you have. Any plans for your monster Regarding this CDI thing, might have to call the man- as Ash suggested and find out what he has to say. I'm sure if I had to pick, it would be the Autronic 500R CDI unit. They make some real top of the line stuff and since I already have the Autronic SMC, that just seems the logical way to go. When I speak with him, I'II post up what he has to say - if I can remember everything.....

Shaun: I'm running the Autronics SMC with stock ignitor and spitfire coil and have no real issues atm. Have to agree with StageZilla that drivibility is so perfect with cold starts that are like factory. No problems with 6 throttle bodies. Can't really say anything bad about the Autoronic unit except price and not as many tuners as say the Power FC but worth every cent. Brad: I've read the information on the Autronics Website relating to their CDI unit. It really does sound like a superior product then say the HKS one. Just trying to find out the benefits of a better CDI system cause some people spend over $1000 on them and if I'm to do the same, you'd like to know why you need it and what benefits your going to get. Did you have to upgrade to the CDI unit because of a problem or issue or was it just done because it was part of your build? I know the HKS unit is a plug and Play design but the Autronic unit doesn't look complicated to wire in.

haha, you never know..... he might be reading this now, please tell us something I thought the stock gap was 0.8mmmm on the plugs.... why 1.1mm You doing this any time soon R32-GTS? I am very interested to see what the before and after results would be. Will you let us know how it goes?

I hate the EPA.....very bad dudes Hope you get through it, they are my biggest fear!!! I hate those guys. Sounds like you had a problem and this was the solution. Might make a call and see if its a good thing to do. There is also a weight difference between the Autronics and HKS CDI where HKS weight is 450g the AUtronic CDI weight is 750g. Maybe more electronic stuff in there. Thanks for your help Ash!

Hi there Ash!! I know, I know, your right! I feel like I bug him at times ringing him up and always asking for his advice, but I know the answer he gives is the right one. What would we do without him.... Those HKS Twin Power CDI's don't look too bad at the price. How ya been anyway Ash? The man has been so busy lately, at times he doesn't pickup his phone for days. Thanks for the advice.......again - it's a nice reminder that if ever in doubt, make a call. Do you know of some of the benefits Ash of getting an aftermarket CDI Unit? Thanks, Adam

Had a look at Nengun, they sell the HKS Twin Power Unit for $517.23 which is almost 1/3 the cost of the Autronics CDI unit. I wonder which one would be the superior product? R32-GTS, your not running any of these aftermarket CDI units & you have 600 awhp. When do we need to get these CDI units or is there some other benefit in getting them anyway, maybe opening up the gap of the spark plug to .8 which will give out a better burn, maybe they run better economy with a larger gap and stronger spark? I read the HKS decription but it mostly states that its good for a smoother rev at high rpm and stops misfires. Any idea's?

Hi Brad, Nice - a JUN 2.7 strocker, HKS T04Z & to top it off an Autronics running the show! A nice nice package there I'm running around 560hp (417kw) @ wheels & still have standard ignitor and spitfire coil packs. I haven't got big issues but I'd like to know what benefits I'd get if I buy the Autronics CDI - wow $1300 thats no small change!!! Others like R32-GTS run even more power then me & still retain their standard system.... why spend $1300 or even half that if it works atm. There must be something I'm missing that I don't know about? Any idea's? Adam PS Autronics CDI running MSD coil packs seem's like a popular setup for a GTR, must work well.

Hey there R32-GTS Thanks for the info!! I run a similar setup but with HKS H-beam rods, 88mm HKS pistons, 1.6mm HKS headgasket, HKS step 2 280 280 10.25 lift cams, JUN oil pump, 8L sump, HKS valve spring, guides & the rest is HKS gear. A few things are changing right now though. I run my plugs down to .6mm to avoid misfire & I use the Spitfire coils on them. I don't have any real issues but I was wondering if running something like the Autronics 500R CDI unit or maybe the HKS CDI unit would help with a stronger spark & a better burn? I've seen alot of GTR's with big HP upgrade their CDI & coil systems... any thoughts anyone?

Hi R32-GTS Just wanted to say that is an awsome result and I'm sure there are alot of people who would even just sit in a car that had 600HP at the wheels. Those Garret T04Z turbo's got to be one of the best turbo's out there, I've got one myself and get 560HP (417kw) at the wheels with 1.3bar (19 psi) boost. I'd love to turn it up to 24 psi, maybe then I'd get a similar result..... What are the modifications done to your engine, going into as much detail as possible. I have a fully built engine and it wouldn't be bad to compare. One more thing, I run no air flow as well but use the Autronic SMC. Thanks Adam PS. do you have any misfire problems or fouling plugs at that boost level?

Just upgrading my oil pump on my RB26 and wanted to know if by fitting a Tomei High Volume Oil Pump into a RB26 (GTR R33) results in any modifications of the sump. I already have a Preformance Metalcraft Sump (8L with baffles & traps) but looking at the Tomei Website and pictures of the pump, it looks bigger then the Jun, Nismo, HKS, etc pumps as part of the pump actually goes into the sump. Theres not that much extra room on the sump at that side so does it fit without cutting & welding for extra space? See for yourself, would it fit? Thanks in Advance!!! Adam

If you ask the manufactures, they say the platinums are better but they also say there is no proformance advantage when there is a before and after. Platinums are good replacement when getting to the plugs are really hard to get to, like in Magnas. Another thing, fouling a platinum costs @$20 each, fouling a Copper @$3 each

HELP! R33 GTR Poping awfully weird.. *video*

No problem there GTR4ever Well done, glad to hear all is well. If it happens again try to order the correct spark plugs. This is a common problem with our cars and its always very handy to have a set of plugs handy for just this type of thing. Always start simple & work from there. Remember its BKR6E are the ones to get. Gap them to 0.7. This will keep you out of trouble. Also now you know what afouled plug looks like, so you can just replace that one in future. PM me anytime in the future for any help. -

Hmmmmm, this could explain it then. When you first installed the new plugs, things would of been fine but after a while they would of fouled up as these are a colder plug. This would of caused the misfiring after a while. So important to: Get the right plugs for the job first. Gap then check then re-check again Pay close attension when make changes & change things slowly to see the result. When fault finding, it makes things alot easier to find. I've got my fingers crossed too. Good Luck -

Same thing everywhere, there are only a handful of good workshops. You will have to research & find the right one. Another reason why we all share our knowledge & try to help -

didn't mean anything by it, just like ferni said - some things are cheap and some things expensive. Wondering on which side the car falls into, nothing else -

oops sorry, I meant 0.7 as your other spark plugs were gaped at these & 0.7 is a good gap to keep. Mine are at 0.6 but I have alot more boost & fuel to iginite. Sorry about the confusion -

Thats the one!!!! Even people like you and me can use this, no qualificians necessary. 1. find 0.6 filler guage. 2. on something soild like a metal bench, tap the spark plug with just enough force to shorten the gap. 3. Contine doing this & check with the filler guage. 4. If you over do it just use the filler guage or something else to very slightly open it up. 5. The filler guage should slide in without moving about or move very slightly. In your situation because you have 1.1mm gapped plugs, measure from the tip of the spark plugs, they have to be bent a far bit - this is why the BKR6E has a factory setting of 0.8mm gap, better and easier to gap to .6 or .7. Another thing, the 6 is a hotter plug, does not foul as easy as the 7 plug range. -
