  1. I dissagree (with the exaust only) there is alot of restriction in stock exausts, its not just pipe size, also flow etc (stock mufflers now being old on alot of cars, and they were cheap and basic to begin with) you can give a car a sports exaust and still have it quiet, and still get the gains, alot of the time, the sound is jsut because people want it, because it makes the car sound powerfull. If you go to an exaust shop and you say you want the car to sound stock, but have a high flowing system on it, they'l do it happily, it just requires some mufflers a bit bigger. Say a large resonator and a large high flow muffler with no tip (i.e. ending in normal piping) it will just look like you have had your exaust replaced, due to age or some other problem etc (and after a few months you wont even notice its new) and it will be quiet as, infact you could have a happy medium, like a tiny bit of a note, very quiet, nothing to turn heads, but just a nice sound. And as for Stock looking mods, pretty much ANYTHING internal, Like Raising compression (if your sticking with N/A) by shaving the head/block or changing pistions, porting and polishing, lightweight gear, a mild cam... etc, as long as you keep the engine tidy, but stock looking (like no chrome shit etc) if the boys in blue ever ask you to pop the hood, and they see a stock looking engine staring back at them, they wont hasstle you. Things like keeping an airbox (maybe a bigger better one off another car) if you change the intake piping, paint it black, not chrome, you can still run a K&N filter etc... go the sleeper
  2. Well imo, your auto for a reason (to be lazy) if you want to change gears yourself, buy a manual or convert yours. definately a better way to go, but if you awnt to keep the auto, then its obvious, you just want a shift kit
  3. Definately, considering in its origional car, as an auto it would be running a ~ 4.3 diff ratio and you've got it on 3.7!!! I'd say stick some pinny gears into it pronto (4.11) and then manualise it
  4. yeah, your one lucky guy, mine was flogged and torched, i can only imagine how much that would suck if i didnt have fire & theft...
  5. i woulda thaught you cvould get some custom billet's made, price though.........
  6. That is true to some degree, especially with a cam upgrade, but i didnt mention that before... A cam upgrade wil definately negatively effect fuel economy/efficiency but its onyl thingss like this (things that change how the car actually drives) that should negatively effect efficiency. Having a lighter car, will obviously help, im not sure about the lightened fly wheel issue, maybe in your case, but in the case of most of us with 5spd boxes, i cant see it doing any bad. With shortened ratio's yes to a point you will lose highway economy but its not that much, i think from a 3.7 ratio to a 4.11 its about 350ish rpm at 110kmph. But you can gain efficiency in city driving etc, because you have the option to use a higher gear without the car labouring etc. generally making the engine spin more freely, like removing AC, switching to twin thermos etc will all help economy slightly, as would raising the compression etc. TRhings like porting and polishing, bigger throttlebody+intake etc shouldnt negatively effect efficiency at all unless you use that extra flow (i.e. give it to it). Thats my veiw on it anyway... also with gearing, if you notice, sitting at a steady rpm in a lower gear (i.e. 3000rpm in 4th instead of 2300rpm in 5th -example just made up figures) sitting on real time on the trip computer, there isnt tooo much difference (maybe ~ 0.3-4L/100 max) as its more in its power curve and needs less actual throttle, unless you do heaps of long highway trips, i cant see it effecting things too much... also you have to make sure you do shift that little bit earlier, it could also be drinking more because your waiting te same amount of time as you were before, before shifting, therefore revving it more etc - becasue inface you should almost be able to shortshift it a little bit as the gears in general are shorter. ta
  7. i dont know about RB20DE/T's but i know on the RB30 theres a coolant hose running through the plenum and throttlebody. After a bit of a drive the plenum is the same temperature as the coolant etc (esp considering its an alloy it heats up quick) so its heating the air before it gets into the engine, making a CAI fairly pointless. I dont know about the whole emmisions thing, but i was always told on the r31's it ran through the throttlebody to keep the butterfly from freezing shut... i removed it and just put a hose in its place when i did my XF tb conversion, does make a bit of a difference to temp, but the plenum does still get warm eventually... i was actually thinking about it the other day, about getting a really small ish radiator of somsort off something, hooking up some sort of small electric pump and pumping my own coolant through it on a seporate system using the old galleries, (it all started from thinking about heat wrapping etc etc to keep it cold, this seems cheaper and easier) without any sort of thermostat or anything, on a cold day (like a 0degree tassie morning) the engine would be fed a nice cool fresh air, through a nice cool plenum... Just something i might try one day, its only prob $50 worth of old hoses, cheap tiny s/h radiator and pump...
  8. Good writeup... But there are a few things you've forgotten to mention... how fast a car goes isnt always about the power it makes... after you do your intake+exahust+ecu modifications, a way to make the car go faster is to change the gear ratio's, so for example if you have one of the older skylines (R31) with the 3.7 or 3.89 gear ratio's you can upgrade to 4.11 etc etc. not syure about imports but i think there was a couple different types to chose from? Also you can get moving quicker if your able to launch at a higher RPM, so for that, if you dont already have one, get an LSD and a good one at that. With this, also to launch at higher rpm's, maybe wider than stock tires etc would be handy... Another one is weight reduction, remove that old AC that you dont use, sound deadening, ligher carpet/seats etc etc. theres more to cars performance than just power... But anyway, if ou think about it, an N/A Skyline, with a good intake (inc bigger throttlebody), Good flowing well made exaust (like mandrel with high flow's etc) short gearing, light chassis, good launching with grip, and a proper dyno tuned ECU, especially for those on there p's - why would you want anything more And dont forget about suspension....
  9. Howdy, can my name be changed from SKITZ0 to SKiT_R31 thats what it now is on other furums, just easier to remember etc... cheers
  10. Nuhh thats bullshit, theyve been saying that for 20 years, its just used as an excuse so that the fuel companys can keep rising the price... and really, whoopty f**king doo, in 7 years, oh well jsut spend $1000 odd $ and convert the fuel lines to be able to handle methonol/ethonaol problem solved
  11. R31? pics? is it manual? location?
  12. clarion 4 X 30 WRMS MOSFET AMPLIFIER - $70(ono) is this sold? is it bridgeable to 2 x ??RMS? interested, ta
  13. how many WRMS are they?

    Pulp 98

Where abouts in hobart do they sell PULP 98 octane? Like BP ultimate or something? Interested in giving it a go, havnt seen it around town town? Do we have it yet? Also the closest to ~ west hobart, as my tanks on empty atm, and i dont know how far ill make :S. ta
  16. i have just fallen in love with that car.... its pretty much exzactly what ive been looking for.... a good condition manual series 3 silhouette that isnt red or white..... mmmmmmm any dings in it? like dents, scratches? hows the rust? any other things with it? just little problems..? Interested in more pics plz - interior, engine... if only you werent so far away.... its a long drive from qld to tas.... What are the tyres like? EDIT: Ever done a dyno? if so, what were the results?
  17. Dont spose you know the RMS Rating per channel?
  18. i resent the commo abuse i drive a white VH Commodore, its only got 15" ROH alloys and standard tyres. And im pretty far off being a DAZZA!. But i aggree, and hate the wankers in the VK's and VL's that try and drag me everytime i pull up at the lights. Im aiming at getting a nice R31 at some point, but for now im pov and drive my commy, with my p-plates up.... I hate little ricers in thier corolla's and stuff, with the cannons, body kits and 17" rims, it is verry sad... Its different thow if its a girl and doesnt have wanky rice... like that Yellow pulsar getting around with the blue rimmed mags, she's a mate of mine, and it doesnt look tooo bad.
  19. btw, this is the 5spd manual, not the 4spd Auto? *edit: Also, these have an electronically controlled 4WD system... how does that work..?
  20. Any mods, or completely stock? guessing stock since its imported...
  21. pic doesnt work, and what do you mean by no rwc?
