  1. I'm in a similar situation. I wanted a turbo that bolts up to the stock manifold and was deciding between the HKS RS and a garret GT30 (T3 flange) with internal wastegate that supposedly ' bolts on' but after some research oil lines are different, some plumbing is required for intercooler pipes and you need a spacer to clear the stock manifold. All of these mods plus the GT30 would end up costing more than the overall cost of the GTRS kit which includes ALL fittings to bolt straight up including oil lines. You can check this turbo out here: http://www.horsepowerinabox.com/HPIAB2/cat...ategory12_1.htm Although the GT30 is rated at 500hp and the GTRS only 400hp, I have never heard a bad thing about the GTRS but I have heard that the GT30 is considerably more laggy... Apparently it is easy to get (i have an R34 neo) 240rwkw with not much over 1 bar with the GTRS and I have heard of up to 282rwkw with cams (not sure what spec) again on a NEO engine. If this kind of power is not potentially enough then I guess look at a larger externally wastegated turbo. I'm going to be getting the GTRS in the coming months - I'm waiting because i'll also need fuel pump + injectors (another $1200+) Hope this helps
  2. All black letters on silver background: 'RS FOUR' - $3,000 'STAGEA' - $3,000 'THE GTR' - $4,000
  3. Both black letters on silver background. $3,000 each. Also available 'THE GTR' $4,000
  4. Daniel, I've got a 34 gtt with full 3" zorst, pod, bov, apexi avcr boost control, power fc, trust fmic. I want a bolt on turbo (no mods required for intercooler plumbing or dump either) Can you give me a price for the HKS GT-RS R34 kit (supposedly comes with all lines and fittings and bolts etc.) or another turbo suggestion. I would like 220rwkw with sensible boost (1 bar) and the provision for more if i uprgrade my fuel system. Nengun.com has the GTRS turbo for $2800 delivered.... Thanks for your time, Paul ((p.s do you know a chick called sheree with a harlequin r33 '91RLY' - I'm sure last time I spoke to her she reccomended a guy called Daniel to speak to about turbos - I seem to remember she mentioned MR. Turbo..is this anything to do with you???))
  5. I also just ordered power fc from Hashiriya. Service was second to none - I ordered on April 28th at 10 am and it was at my work address on 3rd May!! Very cheap prices also. Thanks!
  6. I've got my AVCR screwed to the ash tray in my 34 - it looks pretty neat, you can take the ash tray out but its hard to mount the avcr unit to anything without it in there so i just ground back the lip of the ash tray that sticks out and driilled 2 holes in it and stuck the 2 bolts on the back of the avcr though the holes. Only problem is its not really 'stealth'.
  7. No sorry mate it comes as a package. You can get them from autobarn for about $100 (made by turbosmart)
  8. Choyda- The only tuning places I have used are as follows: Chris Bromidge from QUICKMAZ for my s5 rx7 rebuild - + very good service, great guy and he doesnt have any dodgy apprentices working on your car - doesn't have a dyno, he's always flat out because there are shit loads of worked rotors but not many good shops so its hard to book your car in APC + very profesional but they've only done basic avcr dyno tuning for my rvr so i don't know what theyre like with more major mods - FRICKKING EXPENSIVE but u know what they say you get what u pay for... Champman + Chapman at woolongabba - Worked on my dads car seems very good, excellent reputation, bit pricey, doesnt believe in dyno's - He's going to be doin my 34
  9. Awesome - I'm very keen to see how you go....
  10. Shiny bullet looking one that makes whistle noise - very good condition, came off an r34 gtt so includes everything to bolt it straight on. $250 - Springwood, Brisbane
  11. Ok, thanks for all the replies. I've decided i'm going to get a direct bolt on intercooler kit fitted before it gets tuned. The car at this stage will therefore be going in to the tuner in the next month with fmic, bov, pod, avcr, 3" zorst and power fc. - Now many ppl on here have these exact mods with various different turbos - thats my main question - which turbo?? So far it seems my options are as follows (i want to spend max $2.5k on a turbo that bolts onto factory manifold) 1/ hi flow - GCG can do a 450hp hi flow to current turbo for $1900 seems to good to be true... 2/ garret / hks turbo GTRS or 2830 etc etc Also will my current fuel system be ok to run 1 bar with the above setup (incl turbo)? - later down the track i think i can go injectors, fuel pump bigger airflow meter and possibly cams for quite large horsepower
  12. Thanks Ian - That reminds me - I wanted to know if re-tuning an already basic tuned ecu id cheaper. I would have thought it would be way less because way less hours involved? Looking back at my original post it isn't that clear what i'm asking - If I can find a tried and tested turbo that bolts onto factory manifold That is under 2.5k I will probably go option 2 - anyone had any specific experience? I am assuming the above package will be very reliable?
  13. Kristov - I'm running about 11 psi on a 34 and it only stops stuttering when really caning it - adjusting the spring tightness doesn't seem to make much difference on this bov either. I would say at 7 psi it would always stutter. The GTR is running 1 bar and the hks bovs sound really strange on it almost like a groan corssed between a quiet screetch :whatsthat When I had it on my Rvr running 8 psi it mainly stuttered, when i increased to 14 psi it sounded more like a typical bov on max boost release. I'd say run 10 psi and fiddle with the spring (10 mm bolt stickin out of the end) to try and get the sound you want.
  14. HKS SEQUENTIAL (not the 'whistle' fast n furious one) stutters when low boosting, really nice note when on full boost - heard em on 33 gtr, rvr and 34 gtt and all sound very different but all really good.
  15. I'm at the point of considering my next step.. Current mods pod, 3" turbo back, avcr, atmo bov. I will have a power fc ready to install in the next 2 weeks. I've done plenty of my own research and the problem i have is the extreme variation of opinions from various 34 owners and tuning shops. I've narrowed my choice of mechanic to tune the PFC down to 2 - APC or Chapman & Chapman. Both have quoted approx $500 to tune which seems to be the norm. Now form here I am going one of two ways regardless of who tunes the car: 1/ get it tuned with current mods to 10/11 psi and see how it goes 2/ get front mount fitted before PFC install and select a turbo that bolts onto factory manifold (i don't want huge hp later, prob 400 engine hp at the most) then get it all installed and tuned at once What do you guys think (particulary other 33/34 owners that have been down this road? - On the turbo side of things APC said they can modify my current turbo using stainless steel roller ball turbines which can supply enough air for up to 500hp for $2500 supplied and fitted.... Any help is appreciated. Paul.
  16. Hey, I've taken the hks sequential bov off my rvr and i want to put it on my 34. I realise that if anything there will be a performance loss, small problems with too much fueling etc etc but having driven plenty of cars including skylines that have aftermarket atmo bovs i find if you like the noise then its no big harm to your car. Anyway, I am unsure how to hook it up - i've seen skylines (mainly 32's) that retain the factory plumb back, sometimes even have them still runnin (i.e not blocked off with gaskets) but have heard ppl say that this can cause issues as i would expect; I have also seen them with the aftermarket bov in the stock ones place, with an unusual bracket connecting them - usually something that is vehicle specific i.e bracket to suit sr20 for turbosmart type 1 - would this be available for this bov with r34? Alternatively my friend is a boiler maker and i can get him to weld a pipe and whack the hks on and i can just block the factory one off. Sorry if I made a simple question so long - winded, i just wanted to be clear! Paul.
  17. Ok, the stock 0.5 bar would make sense as with a full exhaust mine is runnin just over the halfway mark on the factory guage which i am assuming is quite accurate. I will hook up a decent guage just to make sure of current boost. Lets say i am running 0.6 bar (8-9 psi) do you think it is worth increasing to 12 psi - i am guessing there will a very small gain and i will increase spiking and it will be to some degree harsh on the turbo.. i find it strange that an R33 25t turbo can run 12 psi or up to 14 with a larger cooler safely but a 34 turbo is weaker?? Abo bob - i'm interested in the mods on your car, i know that bigger turbo, front mount, power fc would be the next step for decent power but realistically that would be $6-7k (plus other bits like clutch n fuel to cope with the extra 100kw or so) but to be honest i don't wanna spend that kind of money. Did you notice respectable gains from ur tuned ecu, i have a pod which feels better than the factory filter (but not by much) is the panel better because theres not much air gettin to the pod as the factory air dam is now gone..? Lastly with the front mount is there much gain at the boost ur runnin? I reckon you'd be increasing lag but not getting much of a gain considering the relatively small amount of air that the stock turbo produces??
  18. Abo Bob - thats not cool about your turbo, what mods do you have and how long have you been runnin that boost and with what controller?? Also is yours manual? I noticed your 1/4 mile time, i went to run at willowbank raceway lat night but it was rained off Did you increase the boost yourself? - if so what was the stock boost setting? Anyone else - stock boost setting on r34's!!?? Thanks
  19. Hmmmm, thanks for the replies. I think i'll hook up a boost guage temporarily to get a definite reading. Does anyone know from first hand experience if 34 turbos can run 14 psi with the stock intercooler (relatively) safely. I'm pretty keen to increase it to 1 bar providing its not too harsh on the turbo (at the moment it just doesnt feel quick enough!) - Choyda, you say from what you've heard its not a good idea to go above 10 psi on 34's, im confused because i've heard all sorts about 32's an 33's (mostly 12 psi is ok for stock cooler) but nothing about 34's..... Also i have a blitz Boost guage (one of those funky E.L ones that are way overpriced!) - does anyone know if it would fit in the factory guage pod, if so i reckon it would look nice n tidy (it looks like it would fit, i just wanted to make sure as i'm sure someones already tried it and knows how much modding is required)
  20. Hey, I have a 34 gtt with full 3" exhaust (turbo back) and a pod filter. I was going to leave the boost alone as I was told that 34's run 0.9 bar (about 13 psi) from the factory. I ignored the factory boost guage until I just realised it measures in kg/cm2 which is Bar and at full boost it only goes up to about 0.6 (about 8 psi). Can anyone verify the stock boost level on an r34? Also if the guage is definitely accurate and the stock boost level is around 8 psi I would probably use a bleed valve to increase it to 1 bar. Has anyone done this themsleves to a 34, if so is the increase in power worth it?
