  1. My skyline has a little trouble responding to the ol' shake'n'click filling technique, compared to all my old cars where I could normally squeeze in a couple of extra litres... Perhaps because I can't shake the skyline and anything more than a stiff breeze would shake up the other cars like a roller coaster... Is it really that bad to fill a car past the point of clicking?
  2. RedLineGTR - Yeah, so I hear. The car is consistantly flat when I fill it up. Anyway, I don't care. If the gauge says I should add more fuel after only 45 litres and the tank is 60ish litres, then I won't be running out of fuel
  3. Running out of fuel in a fuel injected car is bad for the injectors, right? My gauge reads empty and to fill it up takes 45 litres... So I think my gague is a bit out. But I've never seen a fuel warning light come on.
  4. Mate, you need a HSC... And before long, you'll probably be needing uni degrees as well - "Bachelor in Fast Food Serving" anyone? But of course, once you get it, it doesn't matter in the slightest what you got. Kinda sux, eh? But none the less, work experience is the go. Then when you get it, work hard. Show your employer what you can do for them. Then when you're finished, get a reference as ammo for your next job... And who knows, you might get lucky - I certainly did...
  5. Whatever floats your boat. But it's better than paying 17 odd grand for a dell that performs about the same (and doesn't break down like they do)
  6. I kick it over, get settled, and proceed to tackle the carport / driveway. By then, the oil should have gotten around enough and I just take it easy until it's reached operational temps. It's useless to let your car idle for 10 minutes and then proceed to give it stick, because as RedlineGTR said, you still need to warm your gearbox and diff.
  7. Warranty, finance for starters. I talked my dealer down 2 grand, got an alarm, new clutch, 12 month rego, and that 3yr warranty thing. Personally, I couldn't be stuffed running around trying to get a car imported. At the end of the day, the idea that I could go to a shop, point out a car, pay money, and drive it away is kind of appealing. When looking around for my car, I saw heaps of different types of dealers. Heaps of good cars at reasonable delaer prices too. But there was this one car that stood out above the rest, and the dealers who had it oozed professionalism. So I got it from them and have had no regrets. Similarly with computers - there are the guys here who import their own cars... And I simply wouldn't let anyone make a computer for me. I much prefer to do it myself. Not everyone does this and they end up buying Dell, HP, etc. I reckon they're crazy but they don't want to go through the hassle of a DIY job. And in the end, I payed about 6 grand for my beast, and it whips the socks off the 17 grand machines at work. It all depends on what you're comfortable with.
  8. Sorry, i find this increadibly funny Should make a cruise out of it, and other formal meetings. Discuss the books and correspondance over the CB on the way there. "All who agree to this motion, smoke 'um up"
  9. Well, I suppose you could try and get into the top of the tank - where the fuel level sensor goes. Then use a pump of some sort to drain it out. That probably won't get any solid shit out, just the liquids..
  10. There is no substitute for practical experience. Text books can't teach you how to avoid a kid (or other thing) that suddenly runs on the road from nowhere. I reckon you'll find that with most potentially tragic situations, you need to react, not think. And the only way I can see people learning to react is through practical training. I did my license in the old P's scheme. I was out driving at every opportunity with my old man for long distance / defensive driving, and the old girl for town driving / parking / etc.. I drove as many different cars as I could get my hands on - v6 Magna, VW beetle, Laser, Celica, VT Commie... And then there was also an aquatience of mine who was the same age, got her license at the same time, could not reverse, could not drive safely at over 50kph, couldn't corner very well, rough on gears, etc. We had exactly the same privaleges and conditions placed on us. If that wasn't a screwed up system, then what is? IMO the only place for a written exam is for road rules. All other driver testing should be behind the wheel. And if parents are unable or unwilling to aid the learner with experience, then the government should free of charge.
  11. I suppose you could just drive it until it's empty... I hear that running it dry is bad for the injectors though.
  12. Well, hands up anyone here who owns a skyline (or any other fast car) and doesn't give it any stick at all... Sure, some of us may confine our need for speed to the track, but it's my guess that one of the main reasons people buy skylines is the performance.. I suppose each of us has different ways of enjoying the performance of our cars - some better than others. Darting in and out of traffic isn't the only way to be a tool on the road - how about driving fast through heavy fog, or on a cold winters night when the road's likely to have ice on it. 100k's an hour on a country road at dawn and dusk seems pretty stupid to me, especially after I hit a roo a few years back. None of this requires you to own a skyline. All it comes down to is the drivers maturity. I've seen falcons, commies, astras, pulsars, lasers, lancers, s15's, exa's, etc with idiots behind the wheel. But guys, good / bad driving is all on a scale. And no matter how bad you are, there's always someone in a Volvo who's worse
  13. I would have thought 1.5K / year is cheap for a 33 GTR... What's the agreed value - 45 - 50k? NRMA quoted me 13k for a 33 GTS-T with a 25k agreed value, and then said even if I had the money, they still might not insure me... 22 male, 1 <15kph speeding fine a few years back, one minor fender bender about 18 months ago. I've had all my other cars insured through them with 3rd party property since I had my L's... That's expensive insurance.
  14. Bah, VCD sux arse. And since I can't play SVCD, I'll have to go straight to DVD Anyway, I think I have all the authoring bugs out now... Just need to finish compiling and the burn it for testing... Heh, Ghost Rider, Getaway in Stockholm 1, 2, and 3, Getaway in Paris, and a music video with cars crashing... If it turns out OK, I might make a couple of copies.
  15. Hi all, I gotta get in behind the front bar to fix something up... I've seen several posts about removing the bar on S2 R33's, but it seems a little different for S1. Anyway, anyone here know how to do it?
  16. Wow.. Some effort is required. Converting to VCD so my gear can handle it (DVD player doesn't have SVCD support, entertainment box doesn't have mpeg2 decoder, and my normal box displays it in the wrong aspect ratio)... Not bad getting faster than double real-time mpeg encoding in pure software though Dualies rock!

  18. That's along echo point road and the like, right? I suppose it depends on if you want to take the scenic routes.. There's no real choice through the mountains - you really need to stay close to the GWH... But once you're past the victoria pass descent, you can turn right a little further along the road for a back way into lithgow. Or you could turn left a little before riverlett hill (incidently the best part of the GWH, closely followed by the pass) along that road, down into jenolan, back up out the other side, through oberon down the hill, then through oconnell (stop at the pub to annoy my bro - the chef), and then back onto the GWH just before kelso. Heh, it's likely to add another hour and a half on the journey though, but the roads are pretty exciting (i.e. hairy)...
  19. Bells line of road one way, but would you want to do it both ways? The only other 2 options that I know of are the great western highway through the mountains (boring except for a tiny bit) and through goulborn and up along the hume highway (even more boring).
  20. You're from Bathurst? Heh, me to. Learnt to drive on the mount. I always love coming over the top of skyline down into the esses.. Just a cool feeling to suddenly see this curvy road appear below you. You're right about conrod though.. Never a safe place to speed anywhere on that straight. And if you're not on the brakes the whole way down, then you're bound to get done for doing 80.. Came around the chase once slightly sideways with a couple of mates... And just behind the tyre wall with his radar pointed up the straight was constable care. I was doing 50 down the straight, so he just let me go The nasho run is pretty cool... I do it about once a month, but it's never been dry On the hunter valley cruise, I quite enjoyed the Pacific highway between just north of Sydney and Gosford.

    theft

Follow them back home and steal their car... I'm sure they won't mind since they obviously think it's an acceptable thing to do. Then you can drive it to your mates place without fear of it being stolen.
  22. And after a celebration lap at Bathurst I should have had the lights on.. >_<; What you can't see are the 2 'P' plate commies just a bit down the road doing burnouts and other stupid stuff. PIC: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/at...ntid=4990&stc=1
