  1. Mr. GTS4 - Normal I think... Between 2 and 4 on the stock gauge.

Nismo_286 - Yeah, that's it. Mister Mofo left a couple of hoses undone - like the host from the intercooler to the crossover pipe for example. That and the usual other things, and they only made my car worse ;)

  2. Yeah well I've been the admin of a forum about this size once. That was several years ago and the popularity grew so quickly that we (myself and 3 others) couldn't keep up with the demand on the hardware and bandwidth (was costing $600usd / month). Then overnight, it was infested by people who knew everything about everything, regular flame wars, hack attempts, and the golden days (as we used to call them) were forever gone. The community soon collapsed and we bailed out. Overall, I guess it took about 3 years for it to kick the bucket. Personally, I had (as we 4 all did) quite noble intentions and the community was close, but I ended up spending so much time on the forums that I lost the reason why I was there in the first place. Anyway, I hope that doesn't happen here. Cars, however, are more real than rpg making software - like what my forum was about :D

Back to the topic, why wait on our arses for WSID to become available when there are pleanty of industrial estates around? ROFL! :flamed: :Bang: :burnout:

  3. Amazing... Especially compared to before - it was so dull and flat. Now it's a much richer sound and louder too :D I had the same effect from moving from $20 PC speakers to $300 PC speakers 3 years ago (IMO the best money I've ever spent on my PC)

That said, I wasn't going for super loud, but for something nice and crisp. And I heard my flatmates car which had some normal jaycar 6"ers in it.. So I'm happy with it, and that's really all that matters, 'eh?

  4. Yeah, I had some luck. My throttle body was caked in shit, so I cleaned that off with carby cleaner... However in the process, I put the TPS out a fraction I think, so I need to fiddle a bit more.

As for the tapping, it's worse now thanks to the last service at Mofo's-R-Us dodgy performace mechanics. I'm guessing I'll have to eventually take off the cam covers and clean out the lifters by hand. I just need to make the time for it. If you search the forums, there's an article about DIY lifter cleaning for a Lancer Evo engine, but it should pretty much be the same deal with the skyline - except just more lifters to clean :D

  5. One day we installed the front speakers... Then a couple of weeks later we installed the rears... Then the next day, I got the head unit and that was installed too. And it took a weekend to install the amp and subbie, as well as re-wire the rest of the speakers (as they were using stock). So all up, probably about a long weekend's worth of work with 2 - 3 guys.

  6. Hi guys,

Thought I'd stick up a pic or 2 of my first install for you to peruse.

I've got a JVC KD-S895 mp3 head unit, 4 x 6.5" Jaycar Response CS2288 co-axial's, a 10" CS2274 subbie, and a KAC-859 amp. It sounds pretty good, especially compared to what I had before, and didn't cost all that much at all (compared to some installs I've seen). I reckon it turned out pretty well for my first homebrew job. Thanks to my flattie Barge and my mate Dave for helping me to get it all together.

    (those plates are fake :O)

    Anyway, I'm stoked :(

  7. Nah, it's a diode. There's a diode sign on the circuit board and you have groups of 4 or 5 diodes running in series, dropping the voltage to each to somewhere between 2 and 3 volts removing the need for a resistor.

Put a diode in. Not that it means much, since all the LED's are diodes anyway :O Just bridge it if you don't have a replacement diode handy. I had one lying around and it's been working for 12 months.

  8. If you're going to use a peltier, make sure you cool the hot side otherwise heatsoak overwhelms the cold side :D I've got some 172 watters waiting to slip themselves into my PC... 1 - 2 minutes at 12 volts it was enough to freeze the water vapour out of the air onto a 12mm thick slab of copper

  9. Yes....everyone be careful on the roads.  Some people don't think for a second about the consequences, before doing something stupid or risky.  If you were to kill another road user....your life would be wrecked.

    Drive safe.

Here is a reminder.  This guy was in his late 30's.  Didn't stand a chance.  Speed does kill.

    Scott

    Ouch!

Yeah, I left a couple of skidmarks in my dacks when I was new to my car... I'd always gassed it around a particular corner on the great western highway in my old n12 pulsar. Used to get a fair bit of understeer when it was wet but it was fun in a way. First time I went around the same corner in the skyline I was running on auto pilot and it was about 11pm. Gassed it like usual not too fazed about it being raining (it was also the first time I had driven the skyline in the wet) and this time I didn't get any of that understeer stuff... Did about 5 fishies at 90km/h - luckily nobody around for me to collect  Managed to get out of it though :)

Anyway woke up from auto pilot, saw the trees on the side of the road, big fat guard rails and ditches into dirt embankments, the occasional car coming the other way and thought it to be a good idea to keep my skidmark undies in the glove box for reminder :)

  10. C'mon, you can't scrap all 15yr old cars based on age. I'm sure you'll find some immaculatly kept / restored old machines (even aussie!) that are in far better condition than mid 90's family cars getting around. I think the problem with our cars is simply how easy it is to get a pink slip, and how many dodgy 'mechanics' are out there who just pass them. A simple rule - if it's bent, rusty, worn, smokey, rattly, etc it must be fixed to factory standard otherwise it doesn't pass. Sorry to say, but if someone can't afford their car to be repaired / replaced for rust, then they can't afford a car no matter the reason they need one.

After all, what about the guys who have old toranas, monaros, etc who keep them so squeaky clean that they're in better condition than they day the left the factory? Age isn't the only factor for a cars condition and there's a lot of motoring history out there that deserve to be on the road more than a cheap 89 GTR that some P plater kid bought to thrash (and kill himself in).

That said, I agree with everyone who says it's the governments own stupid fault for the situation ending up as it has. It's just a knee-jerk reaction due to their lack of foresight of the consequences of sucking the d|cks of the local car industry. One day one of this countries leaders will wake up and see the big picture as a whole, and Australia will become a better place. Of course hell will promptly freeze over :)
