  1. Ive seen many a crash, helped stabalize a rider etc. Its not nice, and I dont plan to come off myself anytime soon. Thats why riding within yourself at 70-80% seems like a good plan to me. A guard rail would be nasty, yes, very, and gravel on the road is common, not nice but generally controllable. Had a few issues there thats for sure, but if you're looking thru the corner and feeling the road thru the wheels, then its generally aok. Certainly cant argue there with those comments though. With the 'jumping off' comment, put it in the context I put it, nothing wrong with sliding down a road at 100kmph (with full safety gear/leathers etc), if you break your neck then thats unlucky. No death wish here thats for sure, just pure adrenaline and enjoyment factors..... =) But yes, sorry gentlemen, pointless argument! Sorry, I sort of felt a bit attacked yesterday.
  2. Breasts - if youre after man-boobs, have a look at Ronin's avatar!
  3. Yup, swaybars will be my first point of call with the suspension, just got to save a little more. At this stage(a) - sorry, bad joke but I luv it! - after todays further tuning I wont be doing anymore mods until next July, when I get my yearly work bonus. Then I grab a rear shock for the Fireblade, and swaybars and front discs/braided lines for the Stagea. I only drive it a few times a week, so not really needing suspension work done as yet. Stagen, glad you are now on the road! AMS, its now 1500 posts, whats going on?! Addicted Id say! Brendan
  4. Had a thought; email WG at Wayne Gardner Enterprises (world 500gp champ / australian supercar winner), and ask him if he'd be faster up and back on his favourite hills road on a 18k bike (600, 750, or 1000cc, it doesnt matter), or faster in a 100k sports car. Im pretty sure we already know the answer..........
  5. Talk about sliding, I 'learnt' to ride on a '96 ZX7R Ninja, in the wet (which I loved, before kids at least), that thing would back in the rear into corners, and you could just 'feel' everything it was doing. Motard riders are a tad crazy though! You gotta be to put slicks on a dirt bike. Got an exemption from 250cc's after around 6months of riding a little GPX250, used to bottom out the rear on every ride. Was just to silly-big for it. Sold ZX7R, unhappily, due to major knee ops, then grabbed a '98 ZX9R, very nice, not as good though as the '98 CBR900RR though. Yup, WAY safer going fast on a bike then fast in a car. Cant explain it, you all gotta try it for yourselves. Still searching ebay for a nice rear shock, but the Stagea is begging for more money as well....... =) What to do? Brendan
  6. Yah Geoff, done that twice now due to major knee surgeries and birth of 1st kid. Sold up and regretted it big time. Trying to save for a Ohlins rear (front is sorted nicely, rear spring is perfect but shock is gone), but spending too much on the Stagea too quickly. Been in full leg braces, 24/7, no weight bearing, no movement at all etc. Done that for 9months in two stints. Not fun, even worse when youve sold up and your mates ride past to rub it in. 2nd time was rebuilding the engine, so gave me something to look forward to. Havent done PI yet, will do it one day, knee stops me from riding more than a few hundred kms in a few hrs though. Too much pain when lumping my 2metre frame on such a small pocket bike for too long. Wont comment on Mallala or Mt Gambier tracks, as Ive stated some speed figures here on the forum, so if I get in 'trouble' I can say easily "it was all on the track" and be aok. I think. Or I could say Im full of it???? hehehe Brendan
  7. Cheers 4-Door, yeah Ive been there before as well, as We all have, had some real close ones. Lucky to be here. Sold up, then months later the urge gets me again......... (that was the ROYAL we, if you get my drift fellow rider). Now with the 2nd kid just weeks away from birth, Im toying with selling up, but then I ride and all those nasty thoughts get blown away. Its just too insane. When my knee joint is totally replaced then I guess I'll move on, but at this stage Im addicted to speed. And knee down corners. And the mateships, etc. I'll admit though that I shake my head when a car tries to push with me (or the group) thru the hills, death wish waiting to happen. As far as forgiving goes, depends on the road. Id rather jump of my bike at 100kmph if I lost control and slide down the road (if its straight and not on a cliff top) then be in a tintop when it hits a tree.
  8. lol, nice work! =) Tip, always wear safety gear! If you must do jeans, get some Draggin jeans with kevlar seat and knees (Levis disintergrate at 5kmph). Ankle high boots are important (to catch bone fragments in an accident), and gloves, well, whats the first thing you put on the ground when you fall over?
  9. see My Beasts for a list of mods. Braking is FINALLY up there with the power (long story), thanks to wave rotors, sinstered pads, 17inch front rim (up from 16inch) and braided lines. Could do with a Brembo master cylinder though. I agree Guy, tight corners (ie Lobethal roads) and Im SHIT. No confidence if I cant see thru the corners. But down south, like I do most weekends, no contest, enough said.........
  10. Hahaha, you're all funny. Everyone's a bit touchy tho, hey? Hope I didnt dent anyones manhood. Seems like I may have touched a raw nerve though. It was simply a throw away line, stating that yes I would have been up at the front if I was on my 'blade. Fact. Simple. And spanked seemed like a nice word to use. Being dark wouldnt have helped due to poor headlights and not being able to see thru the corners, but...... as I said I can sleep straight as its a 100% correct comment. I dont want to been as a jerk-off boaster tho. Im not like that; more the quiet type. Trick, this thing is good for just under 300, legit speed with recalibrated speedo (geared for Mallala). And it gets there very quickly indeed. Im 130kg plus riding gear, and its the only bike that Ive riden that can power mono, ie throttle only, no mucking around with clutch, pulling the bars or weight distribution. Got a higher power vs weight ratio than a ZX12R or a Hayabusa, and as 'quick' as a brand new 05 model GSXR1000. Lets use some grey matter here..... how heavy is your car (wet weight), how much power does it put out at the rear wheels (or 4 wheels)? The 918.5cc CBR is 205kg wet weight and 113kw at the rear tread. Work it out.......... for a car to stay even from 0 to 250 youd need to have over 500kw from a 1tonne weight. Obviously in the real world on real road conditions its a bit different, but you see my point? Traction is where the bike would be held up, as when on full lean the contact patch is like 3cm at the rear and less at the front, whereas a car has 400cm plus (for 1 side front and rear) depending on tyre size. Chain of ponds is heavily policed, not a bad road, some great cambers.... still learning that 1 as I dont ride it that often (cops). Now Bull Creek Rd from meadows to the end and back, now there's a road. Or Delemer early on a sunday, no cops and all residents at church. I could go on and on and on about trick roads. And Id never do what I do on a bike in a car, that'd be plain suicide & it'd end up in tears. Whilst Id luv to bring out the bike on a run, thatd be rude wouldnt it, its for skylines I thought! Dont need to road race, too dangerous, maybe timed laps at the track is the go? hhmm, NS.com? ah, no thanks. Ive got more taste than that! =)
  11. lol! Sorry, Ive been working on the man-boobs, but they arnt that great as yet. Didnt mean to dissapoint...... Yup Iceduck, more than welcome! help you sort out a bargain for sure - buying bikes with someone elses money rocks! Plus its great to have 4 or 6 eyeballs go over a bike, not just your 2. Maybe hide it from the missus at a mates house - works for a while at least. I hide my bike and fact that I rode from my old's for a few months, until I got the guts to admit to my devilish ways. Had to do something though, knees ruined whatever footy goals I had (was almost there, training 5 nights a week and playing Sat & Sundays), and bike riding is simply the best thing Ive EVER done for myself. As far as staying alive, yeah 2nd kid on the way in 6 weeks time, so theres an added incentive. Means you ride at 80% and use the grey matter that sits (rusting away) upstairs, not 100% flatstick like the GhostRider. Cheers for the comments, anyone else here ride at all (on road)? Brendan
  12. Oh yeah! and then some..... tuned to mix it with 2005/6 spec R1's ZX10's GSX1000R's CBR1000's etc. With a set of cams and some port / polish head work, it'd be up to Aussie Superbike spec, but would need front Ohlins road race forks, which arnt cheap. Spent 9k on the build over the past 2yrs, around 6k of that on ebay, with that 6k in theory being around 10k at normal trade prices from shopfronts. Ebay is a great way to buy when on a budget. I loved doing the build up, was fun fun fun. But in all honesty I needed a wagon for the 2 kiddies, dog, wife combo, and always wanted an R33 coupe since the mid-90's.... I toyed with an R34 4-door tiptronic idea, but couldnt justify flogging off my 4door VR SS for another 4door, so a Stagea for under 18k was a perfect compromise. Already spent 5k odd on the wagon, and counting. Stagea is being tuned tomorrow on the dyno (fri 25/11), there's another 1k; will post dyno printout in the Stagea section. live on ppl's, Brendan
  13. Cheers..... yah, eventually, just on a 'tight' budget at this stage(a). (sorry, bad joke) This time next year when the hiflow happens, might look into a new Z32 AFM, depends on how the current one is holding up. Looking forward to picking up the Stagea from the shop tommorrow to see how the tune affects the car. Cant wait....
  14. Cheers mate, I thought newbies (Z32 afm's) were around $400? I couldnt find a 2ndhand one for less than $150US (on ebay, I know you dont like it!). Where are they for $200? Id buy one new for that price for sure! Yeah, I was very surprised at the dyno report, AFM near maxed out, injectors at 76% duty cycle, good a/f map at 12.0:1, 141.3 AWKW. So, Ive done the Z32 and doing the FPR / fuel pump / fuel lines to help out the injector flow (hopefully)..... getting it all ready anyways for the high flow turbo (got a 2ndhand one sitting at home, was meant to be a Neo but it isnt.... ) Looking for around 200awkw+ with the hiflow, eventually. Brendan
  15. Ive got a March 1997 Nissan Stagea RS Four V, automatic, with 4wd attessa system. RB25DET has done 82000kms and replaced timing belts etc, at 80000kms along with major service and mods. All parts have been installed now, just the SAFC needs a tune, tomorrow. Ashley at Graham West Workshops (Marion, Sth Australia) has cleaned the Z32 AFM with contact cleaner, and said it works just fine and is in good condition (luckily!! I was worried after your post about not buying 2ndhand Z32's afm's due to wear / tear). 17. Simple, they must have been girly-men, as Arnie puts it. Yah, Basket Range is a nice area, but to be fair to the tintops, for full on action how about the 'VictorHeim' Delemere Rd? Thats a 25km stretch of road between Delamere & Vct Harbor, on top of a hill range, left right left right the whole way, lowest speed of 220. Not that any of us condone that sort of thing, eh? Last word, I will admit I was impressed with the speed shown up Eagle Hill rd last friday night, you leaders must be used to the feel and grip levels of your steeds. very important................. Ride / drive safe, Brendan
  18. hahahaha! Funny stuff, yup would have been embarassing to be 'dueled' and 'spanked' by a 8k weapon (albeit with over another 9k in mods). Ive been riding for 8yrs now, so Im confident in my abilities thats for sure. I ride with an ex-500GP privateer rider and have learnt a lot from him & the others in the group. So, yeah, I can lay straight in bed after what Ive already written, no worries there; wink wink. I used to play a LOT of footy, but 7knee surgeries have stuffed that up, so Ive put a lot of time / effort into honing my skills on 6am Saturday / Sunday mornings on empty (fast) hills roads. The skills are there to back up the statement. Not in a car though, crazy stuff, Im very cautious on 4wheels, very silly on 2. As far as Hayabusa's go, nah, straight line stuff only Noz. They're not that great for twisties, plus power to weight ratio throws my 150rwhp 186kg Fireblade infront of a 160rwhp 240kg Hayabusa. The thing that slows me down is MY 130kg weight (plus leathers). Had a great duel with a Porsche GT2 down Bull Creek Rd about a year ago, he was a maniac driving around corners on wrong side of the road, & needed to be put in his place. Very scary driver who almost crashed 3(?) times headon........ Now as far as a duel goes, we'd need a 10sec GTR stripped and lightened, to make it 'interesting'. Fact is my power to weight ratio wins hands down, no contest, null & void. BUT - Im so hooked with the RB25DET Ive been toying with selling up.... maybe not yet, at least not until after the spanking. Brendan
  19. R31, after the tune at 141 All-Wheel kw the voltage on the stock rb25 afm is 4.95Volts, I was told 5.06 (or 5.16 by memory?) was max. The tuners said if I want more power, then with the next mods a Z32 afm was needed, so I found a good condition 2ndhand unit and its being retuned right now along with other parts. I just hope it works!!!
  20. I was told by ATS (who forward customer on to the GCG hiflow option, so theyve got nothing to gain by making up dodgy info) that the cores are GT30 and ground down to suit the specific application....... as best as my memory serves me. Hope that helps. Brendan
  21. Why not grab a 3inch single stainless dump pipe off ebay? I got one off JustJap for around $200 delivered. Top quality, fitted to my Stagea (R33-based) without too much worry. Or spend the extra $100 and get the long length split dump from Batmbl, in mild steel. I would think a 2.5inch might be restrictive when you (eventually) go chasing higher kw gains........
  22. lol to that! damn, wish I took the Fireblade out instead, and spanked all your arses!
  23. Having an 040 installed right at the moment (with z32 afm, fpr, fuel lines, sitc, direct battery feed to fuel pump, etc yadayadayada), and retuned on the safc. Hopefully pick it up tonight... Yah, have read that Walbro isnt that great but is serviceable, big thing there is the amount of cheap chinese copy Walbro pumps that are out there. Nasty stuff apparently. Read a lot about that. But also read genuine items flow like a 040. With the 040, you must install it as low down in the tank as possible, to get around that 1/4tank surge 'feature'. Due to the pump not having a 'sock' like the 918-series. Install low down with a custom bracket, and that wont be a problem. I got my Bosch 040 off ebay (victoria, fordefi) for $198 delivered, with 12month warranty.
  24. Congrats on the new ride, and well spotted!
  25. Do both mate! Grab a 2ndhand Z32afm from these forums for $200 or so, and a new SAFC II, and have them tuned at the same time. I found at 141awkw my rb25 afm was reading near max volatges on the safce, so having it retuned today for a Z32 afm. Brendan
