Why Was My Gtr On Unlimited Boost?
Tangles replied to druzilla32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
If you keep at it enough, you'll have the 'setbacks' etc, but eventually answers come..... -
Mate, thats awesome information!! Thanks so much for the advice, I hope that helps others out as well. I reckon that sounds like it could be a good path to follow in lieu of upgrading the pump. Cheers again, Brendan

98 Series 2 Nissan Stagea Rsfour
Tangles replied to SAM112's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
PPL's - this is a top price for such a sweet vehicle. Who wouldnt want a 'R34 wagon'? Flyn33, I bought my series 1 Stagea a few months ago (flew up to qld to see the car & do the deal, and had the car trucked back to sa) - I really wanted to buy a series 2 but didnt have the 28k necessary to grab one from qld. Good luck with the (unfortunate) sale! BW -

What Do People Thing Of Jaycar Boost Controller
Tangles replied to Robo's's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Did you put it together yourself, solder it etc? Thats why I didnt go that route, and bought the Hybrid EBC instead.... just didnt trust myself to do a 100% perfect job. Plus the time factor to do it properly as well (you know how it is, Ive got three women to please - car, bike, wife, and my kiddie to keep happy, ). Not saying that you didnt do it right and proper, but I thought that if I bought a EBC and it didnt work, then it could be returned to the seller! Brendan -
What Do People Thing Of Jaycar Boost Controller
Tangles replied to Robo's's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Sk certainly swears by the Jaycar stuff, he gained 30kw by memory. A few people use it (successfully), but its too hard to tell, maybe no more than a 'bakers dozen' from what I can tell. Q - can you solder and put together electronics? If so, then give it a go. But if you get it wrong.... a lot of time and effort wasted. If not, maybe buy a Hybrid brand EBC? I got one for $300, just to replace the manual Turbosmart boost controller in the engine bay. Buy it from Flynn Performance by memory. Saves your time in soldering and putting the jaycar kit together. Brendan -
Why Was My Gtr On Unlimited Boost?
Tangles replied to druzilla32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Oh yeah, you gotta watch out for that nasty barrel that seems to be attached to your keyboard!! At the end of the day, if in doubt, drop into a reputable tuner's workshop and ask for advice and directions - Im sure being face to face with someone and with the vehicle there to be seen, the tuner would be able to show you exaclty what to do. Maybe be prepared with a 6-pack of Bourbon and do it on a Friday arvo....? (ie ask the workshop owner to help out for 10mins and dangle a few bourb's in front of him - very attractvie if its 4.45pm on a friday arvo!) Much easier then trying to interpret from typed forum information, if you're not too mechanically minded (and Im the first to admit that Im not, when it comes to turbo vehicles - the Stagea is the first turbo Ive owned). Im finding that its a steep learning curve........... I can work of my highly modified Fireblade (150rwhp, spent 9k on mods), but scared to go too deep with the Stagea. You'll get there mate. We all do by the end of the day. Brendan <_< -

You'll be right, 'bro! Cant do too much harm having a go...... I think!! Brendan -
Hi Ppl's Sorry for asking, but: What is the standrad flow rate of both a series 1 and series 2 Stagea RB25DET Wagon? ie, Litres per Hour. Looking at upgrading my standard fuel pump, want 180-200kw at the 4wheels (after my turbo upgrade), is 130L/h enough? Looking at a Power Enterprises fuel pump to suit the Stagea from www.nengun.com Have a Nismo adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and am going to upgrade the fuel lines to high pressure items as well. And yes, done a bit of a search, but not going to trawel through 6000 pages to find the correct info - anyone? Im sure someone knows.... Brendan

Why Was My Gtr On Unlimited Boost?

If its been rebuilt recently, and is being installed as we chat, then let the engine builders fix the problem!! Must admit tho, when I put my Nissan Stagea wagon through the registration process here in Adelaide around 8 weeks ago after I bought it from Qld, I took out all of the bolt on parts, which included a manual turn screw type Turbosmart Boost Controller, situated next to the airbox. When I uninstalled it, and plugged back up 2 lines to the engine bay with the 3rd line being plugged up with a bolt and ziptied on (and just hanging free), my boost rose as far as it wanted to! So I know where you are coming from. Scary when you are just down the block and boost its 1bar on a stock engine (allbeit for 2secs)! I believe that this happened due to the previous owner taking out the T-piece and a restrictor (going by memory, search posts by CoolPC, he makes mention of how to up the boost to 10psi by uninstalling a couple of factory parts)......... I fixed this problem by reinstalling the boost controller (after I drove away from the engine bay inspection), and then had the car tuned and had a electronic boost controller (Hybrid brand) installed along with a heap of other goodies. 141.3kw at the 4 wheels at 10psi. HHmm, Insurance - is it worth it? Only when you need it!! Alex, when I was 19 I was paying $2200 per year for my '96 Kawasaki ZX7R Ninja full insurance. If I added up how much Ive paid for vehicle insurance, I reckon Id be shocked. But then again, Ive paid out $9k on health insurance, and claimed back over $30k on knee surgeries (had my 7th last week). Brendan

Ive had my rate from Shannons adjusted from $1040 for my 1997 'modified' Stagea, down to $940. Reason is; got my bike insured thru them, and recently put my wifes car thru Shannons as well. Rating 1 65%, 27yrs old, no prior claims (in past 5yrs) or traffic offences (in last 5yrs). Brendan

This might work....

Cheers for that info. To tell the truth, I was thinking around that 200+kw mark (as per the ~70kw loss from crank to wheels), but was being conservative as Im certainly no Stagea expert; learning fast tho! Cheers! Both the VR V8 and the Stagea feel VERY similar in terms of outright power. Ive owned the V8 for over 5yrs now so I can describe exaclty how it drives, but Ive had the Stagea for only 2months, so it is hard to describe how the Stagea drives. No doubt though the Stagea is the better car, and you just gotta love twin electric sunroofs! Stagea RS Four; Do a few mods over the years, get it up to 200awkw and it'll end up being a quick 1/4mile street car, stuck in 'Stealth' mode. Plus with the 'look' of your Stagea, it'll be a huge head turner. Brendan

Looks wicked mate, & those wheels look pretty good on the wagon. I asked my 2yr old son what he thought of the photos, and he exclaimed "Its daddy's new car, but pink!" . Sorry, but I know you were quering the color, so thats what a 2yr old thinks. But it looks neat..... Brendan

Hey mate, Might be able to help outa little in regards to my 1997 modified 2.5ltr turbo RS Four Stagea vs my 1995 VR 5.0litre modified BT1 Commodore (ex nsw police chaser, unbadged SS), both auto's and both weigh roughly the same. The VR (see it in the for sale thread!) <_< , thru my 'dynobum' (see the modified Fireblade bike avatar!!) <_< , has around 210kw at the crank, up from 174kw. The Stagea has 141kw at the 4wheels, so I guestimate around the 190-200kw mark at the crank(?). But they both feel very similar power-wise. Mind you they are totally different in how they make that power; the V8 has the torque, low end grunt and top end run-on, whilst the Stagea 'boosts' its way thru the rpm zone. Both are very quick (in road-legal terms), but at this stage I reckon the modified V8 is a wheel in front on a 400m run, or until you hit the twisties. Thing is, the awd Stagea is just such a much better (safer) car to drive. Has great stability and traction, and the jap technology is streets ahead of the rwd aussie V8 with all the trimmings. The Stagea really doesnt feel as if it needs better brakes (the VR did, went the dba slotted discs), and the Stags suspension is softer but yet still more compliant than the VR BT1 police-spec FE2 suspension, with strut bar and new bushes. Im sad I gotta sell the VR - we got the wagon as we've got the 2nd kid on the way plus a puppy dog for kid no.1, so we recently bought the Stagea off CoolPC in Qld. But I gotta say Im more than impressed with the Stagea, a top upgrade from the VR V8 unbadged SS, and I dont say that lightly. With the highflowed turbo, a few more gadget boltons, worked suspension and brakes; I reckon the Stagea will be a top car to own in the long run. Now, anyone intrested in a V8 commy? Brendan <_<
