  1. Mine had ATI harmonic balancer fitted. N1 pump still failed. Will add to the engine failure thread - don't want to distract this thread - sorry!
  2. Hey, Matt. May I add my congratulations to the many. I must admit, I am getting nervous that you are buying all of the parts that I have wanted - including quite a few that i cannot afford! Pretty soon, any thoughts I have had of my GTR being unique will have been caught up in your wash, as you forge on into JDM parts heaven! I have got one or two bits still that you have not bought yet - but it is probably only a matter of time! I hope to be able to put my own build thread together in a few weeks time. Had a bit of a setback recently with an N1 oil pump failure. I hope you have a Tomei oil pump! All the best. Cheers.
  3. Hey, Moneypit. Congratulations on the result. I am very interested in the HKS software that was provided. We could not get anywhere with the HKS Valcon, after lots of trying - long story, better told by Steve one day, including talking to the likes of Abbey Motorsport in the UK and HKS in Japan - whilst Haltech were offering a better potential result. (It's my car at Garage 101.) A slight problem with an N1 oil pump has set us back just a smidge, but I am looking forward to the next few weeks! Cheers.
  4. Here it is. Autech style can is obvious. Second can is on the firewall, next to the ABS unit. Cheers.
  5. Hi, Nic and all. A bit off topic, but as far as I am concerned, the push against the Hoon Laws is still going. We are still collecting info and I, for one, will be pursuing it in the New Year with my MP. I have been quiet on the topic for a while, due to work commitments and other stuff. But I will be picking up the baton again soon. Don't expect much to happen while Barney Rubble is in power - the man with no vision! As they have just implemented the most draconian stop and search laws in the Western World, our civil liberties arguments about police powers and hoon laws are rather put in the shade. Back on topic: Always be polite to Police Officers (although I am tempted to only give what I receive myself). You don't know what sh#t they have had to deal with before they bumped into you. If things are not looking healthy, record the conversation and politely inform them that you are going to do so, "so you don't forget anything, if you need to see a lawyer". Cops have bad days, so record them if you are suffering because of it. Unfortunately, lots of young people drive badly, drive cars with illegal mods or that are unroadworthy and have accidents. If you look like you might fit this profile, it is not "racial stereotyping", it's just statistics. If you have no tread on your tyres and a bunch of dodgy mods, you deserve it. If your car is fine, then be polite and helpful, even if you have to smile through gritted teeth, and you might get a better outcome. If it doesn't go well, you have a nice recording of you being polite and helpful and the Cop being unreasonable. Cheers.
  6. Well, I would argue with that. The Autech arrangement is similar to the Nismo oil separator in operation, but its placement gives better head for return flow to the sump. There are other arguments for the arrangement, which was praised in an article in HPI magazine a couple of years ago, but I don't recall the details. I was convinced of the argument by Danny Fisher, at Imports 101, who understands all of the details. I bought one from Danny and he set it up for me in a two stage arrangement with a "standard" catch can, that I already had fitted - both of which drain back to the sump. If you want to understand oil flow around the RB26 engine, talk to Danny. The Mines baffles are good, but fitting a head drain is better. Cheers.
  7. Hi, all. I was prompted to post on the topic of incorrect badging of cars by a recent/current "For sale" post in the WA For Sale section. I do not want to take the seller's thread off topic, nor do I wish to criticise him in particular. I simply want to raise the issue. So is badging a car as one thing, when it is a lesser thing, wrong? Examples include kit cars made to replicate Porsches or Ferraris, complete down to the badging and, of course, putting GTR badges on a GTT or GTS with a body kit. My view is that it is misrepresentation, whether it is innocently intended or not. There are two main concerns with it. One is that the unscrupulous will try and pass it off as the real thing. This has been a major problem with GTRs, V Specs and the like within the Skyline mark. This is also a problem with other marks and classic cars - for example, try and buy a genuine Z28 Camaro (early '70's version), to name but one. The second is that the availability of cheap copies devalues the mark and can impact the re-sale value of the genuine article. I happen to have paid a lot of money, through a reputable Import broker, to acquire a genuine R34 GTR V Spec II, with all the paperwork to prove it. I delight in seeing other cars of the same mark, comparing them, appreciating them. It is a rare car and a fantastic car that is rightly considered a classic. So I get p#ssed off if Arthur Daly or some ill-informed kid sells something with the same badge that is not genuine, whether he sells it for a fraction of the price or not. Further to that, I believe that it is inappropriate for this forum to provide a platform for people selling cars that are incorrectly badged. If it is clear that the badging is incorrect, the seller should be asked to remove the incorrect badging as a condition of offering it for sale on these forums. I would be interested in your views. Bah Humbug.
  8. Looks excellent! Great work! How easy is it to take off the door pillars? Do they just pull off or are they bolted from behind or something? Cheers.
  9. Hey, Dan. I shouldn't have been so keen! I just sent you an order through E-Bay!! That will teach me to read the whole thread!! If you get the reverse light kit figured out, I would definitely take one. If you manage to do the fog light in red and white (for second reverse light) now that would be cool! Cheers.
  10. SOLD - to the man in the funny hat. (Subject to receipt of promised cash.) Cheers.
  11. There are things you can do to minimise the potential for a spun bearing, without taking the engine out for the more definitive upgrades. The basic approach is to overfill the engine oil by about 1litre and fit an oil catch can that drains back into the sump. Once you commit to taking the engine out, then you can fit an extended sump with baffle kit, head drain (which also drains back to the sump) and an uprated oil pump (N1, Tomei, Jun, etc). You can do this without stripping the head off the engine. These all deal effectively with the problem of oil accumulation in the head causing starvation of the bottom end. If you commit to stripping the engine down, you can also fit the 50 cent Tomei oil restrictor, which prevents the oil accumulation in the head in the first place. So three levels of what you can do. Just don't assume it is going to fail and you need to build a spare! Spend your money wisely and you can minimise the probability of it happening!! If you are going to regularly track the car, you really need a sump extension and baffle kit, oil catch can plus oil pump upgrade anyway. I have had the middle level done to my engine at Garage 101 and am very happy with it. My knowledge of these things is that of the enthusiastic amateur, so don't take my word for it. Speak to a few people, such as Danny at Garage 101, or Steve (who was looking at this thread - Hi, Steve!). Cheers.
  12. As a Chemical Engineer, I really should know such things, but I accept the title as offered!!! I know what you mean, though. With the polarising lenses, you can see the air "shimmering" here and there, and not just with the heat haze. Shame there were no Nullabor Nymphs, nor any UFOs!! Cheers.
  13. The Balladonia Roadhouse. When the remains of Skylab fell to earth within the Shire, they sent Nasa a fine of $400 for littering!!
  14. The start of the 90 Mile Straight, heading East. Didn't see any Nullabor Nymphs, much to my disappointment! Saw a few emus though!
  15. Being relatively early in the morning, it took me a while to realise why the Nullabor Roadhouse, apparently surrounded by bush, featured a model whale. It is a short distance from the coast, with a number of access tracks to lookout points. The best one being at the Head of the Bight, which is a sealed road and there is a Visitor Centre, staffed by local rangers.
  16. Day 3 - view from the Nullabor Roadhouse looking South across the highway.
  17. Giant Koala Between Horsham & Stawell Photo, Western Highway, Victoria
  18. 90 Mile straight heading West! By the time we got back to Perth, with stops at Madura Pass Roadhouse and Kalgoorlie, we had covered a total of 7,863.5 kms. Most days the average speed, according to Navman, was about 105 km/hr. Everywhere we stopped, people asked about the car.
  19. The big Roo at Border Village
  20. The Head of the Bight - we saw loads of whales, really close in, but none where I could picture them and the car!
  21. View back towards Streaky Bay on the Flinders Coast - a beautiful spot, well worth a visit. The Hotel is an institution!
  22. The Big Galah at Kimba, South Australia.

Some signs!! Overtook this road train, then saw the "Explosives" sign and hurried up a bit. Then we stopped for a coffee and the bugger joined us!!
  24. View from the BP Station at Port Augusta!
  25. A lookout on the Coorong, South Australia
