  1. More boost that stock due to large exhaust + intake mods = rich and retard, this plus bad plugs and or bad coils = misfire. The richer the mixture the harder it is to ignite, the weaker the spark the more likely the flame will be blown out, so some combination of bad tune either from a stock ecu + more boost, or a retuned ECU too rich plus the stock ignition equipment shitting itself will result in a misfire, fix these things one by one and your problem will go away. Cold weather will mean more air which means even richer mixture, but it means less heat in the coil packs so it may make the problem worse or better.
  2. On grandfinal day/school holidays/long weekend I moved my car out of the garage at about 5am as I didn't want it to get boxed in when my house mate got home (she was working all night) anyway about 630am some f**kwits pulled up in a car, one guy jumped out smashed the rear windshield, kicked the side of the car in and keyed the whole right side, boot and roof down to the metal. Had to claim on insurance which was unfortunately a $1500 excess, $6k of damage luckily it is insured for ~$11k so they are repairing it, full respray apart from the left hand side which was scratched when an old lady merged into me last year and they have already resprayed. Kind of shitty to happen now as I didn't really want to fork out $1500, but it means I will have a completely resprayed car, hopefully get it back in a few weeks time.
  3. Yep, not sure why but GTR injectors just seem to give poor economy from the tuner I spoke to, he said they also commonly leak through the injector body, I know mine did both of these things but I can't comment on the truth of how common it is or why.
  4. If you have a garage and a spare car for the time being I would recommend it purely for the learning experience, lots of people on here willing to help, post in your local area and I'm sure there will be people willing to come help you do it in your garage for cheaper than $50 an hour. Best way to learn is to jump in the deep end but I understand if you don't have the time. You are right it isn't that many years difference, it is a newer design and a better motor as well though, would always go for the newest model possible when swapping motors personally, the neo is just so much smoother and nicer to drive compared to the freshly rebuilt r33 rb25 with forgies I had before. I trust nissans seal of approval over that of most builders. lol pretty sure he is looking for an easy out, not a pit to burn all his money in
  5. If the head is gummed up chances are the bottom end isn't in great nick either. A low km newer neo motor would be a good thing purely as it isn't that old, maybe 8 years max instead of 20. The swap is easy, you can even use all the R33 intake gear on the R34 motor, just need to rewire cas and ignitors that is all. If you do this you only need a bare block, seen them go for $1100 with no ancillaries, dont buy from a wrecker buy privately as you'll pay $2.5k from a wrecker. Can flog off your head and bottom end for some money to make your cash back. Winner winner chicken dinner!
  6. How far is it, trailer it?
  7. How was the idle and real low load tuning dvs? you do it all from scratch?
  8. Hey simon what are your thoughts on limiter bashing, my tuner and a fair few people here seem to think it cracks oil pumps and all sorts due to everything getting unbalanced and vibrating, thoughts? My tuner personally likes just dropping it down to almost 10:1 where the red line is to kill the power and make the engine tend to drop back in revs anyway.
  9. GTR injectors suck btw, poor economy and they commonly leak, would recommend nismo drop ins, no hacking up your loom either.
  10. Hey did you do anymore on the internally gated kando TD06? or did I just miss the discussion. If it worked as well as internally gated garrets you would be onto a real winner.
  11. I'm not being a smart ass, I'm explaining how it looks in the police officers eyes and that you can't honestly expect a different outcome from what you had, regardless of it being unfair.
  12. English mother f**ker, do you speak it? edit: if you talk the same way you type I probably would have tried to defect you as well, it is all about the image you portray, driving a skyline is 1 negative point, being on home detention when they look your license up is 2 negative points, talking like the average elizabethian is 3 negative points, anyone care to guess the way you dress? I am well aware that the person I just described probably isn't you, but I don't know you so all I have to go on is the first impression, the police officer is the same, remember this.
  13. If you are on home detention then chances are you are a typical petty criminal feral, at least with no prior knowledge that is what the overwhelming majority of the population would assume. It might not be fair, but you can't honestly expect any different outcome than that, people will judge you because you are on home detention, they will also judge you because you drive an r32 as statistically you are more likely to speed and have an accident, statistics don't lie so you are stuck with that image. I realise that people judge me for driving a skyline, most people think I am a dickhead at first glance because of the typical way people drive these cars, hell I will admit I am partially responsible for the image that R32s have, but I don't complain about it because I know it is completely reasonable to pre judge skyline drivers.
  14. I just take my most recent defect inspection report (passed lol), certificate of exemption of modification and emissions test report, once they see that they can't be bothered arguing usually and leave you alone.
  15. They can but usually won't, however if you present yourself well and it is technically a minor defect then you often get away with it. If you car is lowered on its ass, super loud and obviously modified though no chance. Take this opportunity to get it up to scratch so you can pass regency everytime. My r32 as an R34 neo making 260rwkw and it passed regency like that, you just have to make everything look stock and be safe.
  16. Go to your local police station with new tyres and see what they say, they will most likely clear it. Going to regency for blowing smoke is a load of shit and I wouldn't accept that.
  17. Fuse? Battery? Could be both, both could be due to the alternator as well. If you aren't good at diagnosing simple faults like that take it to a mechanic, will save you a lot of time.
  18. Yes it is a restriction, hence why you need more boost to make the same power on a smaller motor, same as smaller cams need more boost etc etc. Though technically he accounted for that by saying "no restrictions" which basically takes the engine out of the equation and assumes a magic black box that has no friction/pumping losses etc lol.
  19. Wow that is annoying, we had a similar problem where the wrong earth had been used for the ignitor, it could sink enough current to spark, but the spark was really really weak and wouldn't actually fire. Had to strip the loom apart to find the proper earth when we wired it up again, took ages to figure that one out.
  20. After injector loom if you could give me a price
  21. old links broken torque and power: http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/9248/img20120517221144.jpg boost and power: http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/9011/img20120517221202.jpg afr and power: http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/959/img20120517221116.jpg
  22. Just add fuel, can you get an afr graph at full load?
  23. The stock nissan bottom end doesn't have any inherent weaknesses at the power levels most people run, it has the nissan seal of approval unlike many aftermarket rebuilds that grenade 5000kms later and it is also extremely cheap. Imo almost all motors that do grenade are due to oiling issues be that starvation killing the bottom end, assembly issue (wrong clearances etc), limiter bashing unbalancing things or a tuning issue causing detonation via one of many ways killing the bearings and pistons. So knowing this I don't know why everyone doesn't just go a stock untouched (unmolested) rb30 bottom end, chances are you will kill it from one of the reasons above well well before you destroy it due to high revs destroying the rod bolts/rods or destroy the pistons/bearings from just simply too much torque.
  24. a cat and a middle resonator/small sized muffler will help out a lot.
  25. ok thanks for that, I'll just keep checking it every few days until the due date, then I'll just wait for something in the mail. thanks guys
