  1. Losing traction at 130kph, heh isnt that much power a bit silly, you plan for it to be a track car?
  2. That thing sounds horn, sounds like a v8. sounds like the power comes on like a light switch
  3. Um wouldnt tailshaft speed be dependant on what speed you are doing not rpm? being as its after the gearbox.
  4. Speak to the person whos doing it for you, I hope he knows more about it then you do. Do you have all the supporting mods? aftermarket ecu etc? You cant just slap a GT30 on and expect it to work, if you only want to run it at 7psi then it sounds like a smaller turbo might be a more appropriate option as they are designed to run alot more then that.
  5. I dunno if you can afford a $30k gtr Im sure you can afford the premium fuel to put in it, especially if you are a true enthusiast.
  6. Hah, well that really is a retarded decision to make, its a bit off earning the money and buying it though. Cheers for the input guys, I reckon I might just sit on my money for a month or so until I make up my mind. I guess I kind of expected these kind of responses posting it on a car forum, I think thats kind of the reason why I posted it here.
  7. Ive actually had a loan before, was only $3k when I was working fulltime last year before uni for the GTS I spoke of, the motor was about to die and couldnt really afford to fix it. Parents dont care if I do it either way they just think itd be more responsible to save the money, same with some of my older peers, a few of which have spent all their money on cars and now just gotten out of it and are saving. As I said the loan would be completely defferable (student loan) and $2k over a year is f**k all a week, for peace of mind though I think I will try and save up before hand and yeah Im 19 atm.
  8. Im doing biomed/electronic engineering so the starting salaries are similar. This is the argument Ive been having with myself. I think I will go ahead, but not until Ive saved the extra $2k myself as cars are something I really do enjoy. I guess im trying to justify it to my peers and parents, when infact its my money, if Im happy with it and the repucusions later on then who cares.
  9. Yeah I guess you are right, I just have 50 people telling me not to do it.
  10. I have $8k myself and im considering loaning the other $2k I work casually, get child maintanance and youth allowance so ~$280 a week so yeah paying the loan off isnt a problem but whether im going to kick myself in 6 months because I dont want it anymore etc. Sigh.
  11. I have a dillemma. Ive owned a 4 door jap GTS auto turbo (which I sold last year due to issues with it and not being able to really afford it and really wanting a manual. I then bought a S2 5 speed silo which I had for about 6 months until it got stolen and written off. These are all R31s I am refering to, I have a fixation on the 80s boxy styling, really love it. Now Ive got the insurance claim and saved up and have roughly ~$8k and can easily get a student loan for $2k (can pay it off in 6 months without an issue and worse case defer for 2 years until I can). Ive been looking at coupes for the last month or so and I have found a few that I really like and I can now afford one, being something that Ive always wanted its like a dream come true. Anyway as much as I love cars and want one I know financially its a completely retarded decision to make. I could invest the $8k in a managed share fund and get ~13% back in interest and by the time I finish my engineering degree have almost doubled my money. During this time I could just drive a $2k stocker around. Now this or I could buy the car Ive always wanted and spend too much money on maintaining/running/upgrading it and probably get half my money back if I sell it in the end. Im crazy about cars and absolutely love having a nice fast one to drive but $16k would be a huge assistance when I finish uni and really, im going to lose out bigtime running a turbo car. Ive tried weighing up the pros and cons but I know im going to pine and whine about having a shitbox for the next 4 years if I dont get something nice again (miss the GTS alot almost cried when it drove off) but in 4 years time Im probably gonna go 'man im over cars that was such a waste of money I could really do with' Anyone here been in my situation and now older, what would you recommend? Im 19 by the way.
  12. Ive seen manifolds around for both types, is there any advantage over one or the other aside from the obvious space issue when using larger turbos? Just wanted to clear this up. Personally I reckon a good lowmount manifold looks hot with all the extractors sticking out.
  13. Probably, I think the best way to determine the power is look at the graph and the torque curve, that and the good old seats of the pants dynometer.
  14. If you do that, you would probably want to grind out/port the intake manifold as Im pretty sure it will still be a smaller diameter then the XF/Q45 throttle body. Probably hardly worth your effort though.
  15. Unplug it and spray it with some conductive spray and then put it back in. Might have been some corosion on it or something that you disloged. So it kicks over but doesnt fire? Anyway might be best if you make a seperate thread for this so not to clog this thread up.
  16. Its na, how could you really improve response that much. They are pretty responsive as it is. Get a bigger throttle body, then a smaller press on the pedal will open it up quicker making it seem more responsive.
  17. It can be done, but you are really going to need to make sure its done properly, cant skimp on anything. For example that 1500hp 3 speed supra that is daily driven.
  18. Google the use of oil additives, they are pretty much proven to have no help and even interact with some oils and make them worse.
  19. Just out of curiousity what causes the power to drop off after 5700 ish rpm, I thought being a bigger a/r then stock it would allow better flow up top. Or is this just more a characteristic of the head/cams etc? Either way looks like a very nice upgrade over stock.
  20. They already exist, not exactly as you described but they are called variable vein or something. On audis etc, have instant boost with no lag.
  21. you have an r33 with an rb20e? jesus christ that must be a dog to drive.
  22. Some people do it and sell it for a profit. Takes the hassle out of you importing it as they probably know what they are doing or found a really good deal.
  23. Good luck, the wiring is probably the hardest part of setting something like that up.
  24. 6k in top gear would be very high load and make the clutch slip if it was worn. The smell is probably the clutch burning. Im 99% sure it is your clutch
  25. we were talking about the exhaust/cat sensor
