  1. I think youll find the gearing is quite different between the cars, thats probably the only explanation I can think of.
  2. turbosmart dual stage one. It still spiked to 12 when I shortened the hose and when I removed it completely it was fine. The cheap INLINE ones you can get on ebay for $20 do the trick much much better. With the inline ones theres no extra tubing to pressurize so theres no delay with it activating. Really only an issue with small turbos the build boost extremely fast.
  3. For a bleeder I definately would not be doing this, with a smaller turbo (stock) the time it takes to pressure the longer tubing can be enough for it to spike to 15psi before lowering the boost to say your set level of 10psi. I found this out with my old redtop rb20det. Would spike to 16psi and then drop back to 11ish. As soon as I removed the excessive tubing it went to 11 and stayed there.
  4. Unplug the AFM and see if it runs any differently. Good way to check if its working or not. It may however be damaged from the oil and only working partially.
  5. Cheap local exhaust shop 3" exhausst dont sound that bad either, just gotta get a good muffler. I had a mandrel bent 3" cat with a 3" pipe through it and a really big bodied junbl muffler. Not the best system in the world but it performed and sounded really nice, a little bit droney around 2k but another resonator would have fixed that up. I think the biggest factor to sound is how many bends, what muffler and what resonator if it has one. I've heard stainless sounds different to mild steel as well. I never had much success, I recommend going on a skyline cruise and get ahead and watch everyone drive by. Then ask the owner what system they have
  6. skyline sounding like a wrx? maybe if it dropped a cylinder. The roar of a skyline is far sexier then an wrx.
  7. Unless you've got some experience tuning Id leave it, shaun knows his stuff and will do a good job. Do some reading and when you get it back look at the tune he did, learn that way.
  8. Just a question regarding some of that stuff, whats stopping someone using a small rear a/r eg .6 ish with a massive external gate, surely as soon as the wastegate opened most of the restriction that would be caused by the small a/r would then be bypassed allowing a decent top end? or am I completely wrong?
  9. Use a recirculating bov at idle, or to stop the turbo wearing out from constantly spooling some sort of valve for the steam side of the turbo. Yeah its a weird idea, but it would hopefully increase the efficiency of the engine whilst also increasing power. edit: replace "some sort of valve" with and electronic wastegate
  10. Based on the idea presented here http://www.autoblog.com/2005/12/09/bmw-tur...s-hot-and-goes/ Instead of using the steam to drive a crankshaft connected to the engine use it to drive a turbocharger. At low temperatures you could have a temp activated valve so that the turbo is not an inlet restriction. Whether there'd be enough pressure to spin a turbo to the speeds needed to create enough boost to be of any use I don't know however I think it'd be an interesting idea. Any thoughts?
  11. Just out of curiousity why do people run such big rear a/r's surely a ~.8 would be far more suitable unless its a drag/street car.
  12. Those two in the picture you posted are both jap imported coupe GTS / GTS-X models, came standard with an rb20det
  13. Theres stacks of build up/rebuild threads on these forums already, do a bit of a search, should come up with alot of different options.
  14. Uh with a highflow don't they machine the housings and then put a wheel of their choice in there? so there would be many different combinations all with different results?
  15. Rotaries tend to have pretty big rear wheels so at a guess Id say its going to be fairly laggy. Im not sure how it works with putting a bigger wheel into a smaller housing, if this affects it at all.
  16. Yeah id be pretty sure he does, $9k for a auto 31 with 300k on the clock? no way in hell.
  17. I suggest you save and put some more expensive items in there, you will be wishing you did when you have the money later on.
  18. Who cars man just grind the biggest eyelet you can, go all the way into the water jacket you dont need that coolant stuff. Anyway who cares as long as it sounds tough and doesnt idle below 2500rpm. http://www.ipswichrotorcrew.com/Steves%20p...ids/tristan.avi http://www.ipswichrotorcrew.com/Steves%20p...ds/tristan1.avi Right Click save target as. Got tough Idle?
  19. The 2530 Probably provides more average power and at lower revs hence the better times. Got a dyno sheet by any chance?
  20. Surely you could have pmed him that ON TOPIC Awesome car!
  21. Put a 25det in there put a fake cam cover on it. I dont know how easily you could get away with this.
  22. Can you tell where the ticking is coming from?
  23. Probably but you will see full boost very early with lots of low down power, should be very drivable and quick on the street.
  24. heh, how much attention do you get in that thing? must be pretty wild on the street.
  25. I want to stab your eyes out in jealousy.
