ah ****, the el falcon o2 sensor I bought was red black and white, so I assumed that red and black were heater + and - and the white was for the sensor. I connected it to the old plug red - white black - white white - black would this have damaged it? would reversing the colours to how they should be black, white - white and red - black make it work? As when I replaced it I noticed no improvement in fuel economy

did I mention I was selling my deck? -
What does shaft play sound like? When I start my car if I give it a small rev to say 2k before the oil has started lubricating everything (I know bad) it makes a terrible rattle.

unstable idel and running very rich (R32 GTR)

its on the top at the back of the intake, near the firewall, theres a small solinoid with AAC written on it, this and the metal part that its attached to needs to be removed. Soak it in petrol for a few hours, or even better carby cleaner. -
Yeah my popping was due to an injector problem. I ended up getting coils that definately worked and I still get the popping.

update for anyone whos interested and reading. I just replaced my coil packs and plugs to no help. Anyway left it idling with my head under the bonnet, as soon as it starts misfiring I head a zzzst kind of like electrical shorting coming from the injectors, I tried the screwdriver to the ear trick but I couldn't get the one in the middle which is where it sounded like it was coming from, tried bashing it with the screwdriver but no luck. Also I found a not the best way to cure the problem, after starting the car if I stab the throttle to 90% and rev it to 2.5-3k (I know bad on a cold engine) it idles almost perfectly. Im thinking maybe somethings leaking or somehow clogging one of the injectors or possibly one of the igniters just needs a decent voltage through it to make it work correctly. I dont really know as Im not the most mechanically minded person.

Basically Ive got an R31 GT Passage with an rb20det and a full 3 inch system with a wanky cannon, now I like the noise etc but the massive shiny 4inch tip looks rediculous. Now Basically I want to know would it choke the system much putting an original 1.5-2inch muffler on it, or are there anyways of basically making it less obvious that you guys have done. Cheers

Injectors making weird noise, causes missfiring

Clarion ARX3371 Deck + 6 Stacker CD player Comes with cabling, deck and plugs, does not include manual. However it does use standard colour coded cables, I can advise if neccessary. Has usual RCA inputs, Tape Player, Presets, Removable Faceplate. Also includes 4 metre cable allowing you to place the stacker in the boot. Im not setting a reserve on this as I will pull out if I don't think Im getting enough. Any offer considered.

Yeah thought it was a bit of a myth, most the Multinovas Ive seen go off still use a massive flash though
-
You know that reflective license plate spray that everyones heard about, does it actually exist? Basically if you haven't heard of it, it makes your license plate extremely reflective so if you get flashed by a camera it will just look white.

I have finally found the cause of my missfiring at idle, I just replaced my coil packs and plugs to no help, ran some injector cleaner which helped it a bit although not much. It is possible its coming from something else but what I have no idea. Once the car warms up it seems to be fine however. Any ideas?
-
Yeah my mate said just pull it out, dismantle clean and grease everything. Ill give it a go on my day off
-
ok just ran some injector cleaner through my car, only used 1/4 the tank so far and it got rid of 90% of my popping, must have been some bad fuel. Anyway it still pops up high revs and loses power/hesitation so Im gonna replace the coils anyway
-
Just ran a bottle of injector cleaner through the car, the misfire at low revs under load is almost completely gone and ive only used 1/4 of the tank. However the small hesitation at low revs when cold is still there, and the idle still hunts and goes up and down. Still gonna replace the coils as it loses power and pops at high revs occasionally.
-
It now makes a really loud clunk when it disengages and the engine starts Think its time to replace it
-
Update: Ok ive changed my plugs and gapped them to .8, changed my O2 sensor and taped up my what appears to be shagged coils (hairline cracks and scald marks) and its made the problem worse, when the engine is cold, any throttle between 1.5 - 2.5krpm causes it to missfire really bad, the more throttle the more the revs drop and the worse it is, after 5mins however its fine. Ive bought some 2nd hand coils and Im going to properly cover them in araldite and do a few layers and replace them, if this doesn't fix it what would you suggest? CAS ? my idle vac is about -11 so im thinking maybe I have a mild vacuum leak, can't hear anything however. Also took it for a spin tonight and it misfired really badly like when hitting the limiter at around 4.5-5.5k did a few launches however and it seems to go away, still not happy. I might look at my temp sensor and AFM next week on my day off, they are really the only other things aside from my timing being out I can think off. Im gonna put the money on the coils though as they are shagged.

Misfire / engine sputter on cold eng start
Rolls replied to blackanator's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Where abouts is the temp sensor, also what would be the correct way to test an AFM, multimeter resistance test? cheers, also its a redtop eccs rb20det R31 motor Also took it for a spin tonight and it misfired extremely badly around 4-5k a few times, then got better. -

I have this exact Problem, ive replaced sparkplugs, O2 sensor, taped up coil packs allthe usual stuff to no avail, infact its got even worse. Have you solved it? -
Ive bought a 2nd hand set of coils for $150 in better nick then mine, so when they arrive Ill pull out my old ones and properly covery them in several layers of araldite as I didn't cover all the scald marks in tape, and Ill try out the 2nd hand ones.
-
Yep replaced my sparkplugs and gapped them to around .8 my method of gapping probably wasn't the best however. I also sanded the end of the carbon rod which was fouled and burnt looking on all the coil packs.

Just recently Ive been experiencing some real bad missing on cold idle, also under load at low revs when cold, basically the more throttle the worse the miss and the less power it makes, it occasionally pops when I rev it out as well. Now I just spent an hour or so pulling out my coil packs and taping the entire sides and stem up with electrical tape, most of them had scald marks and a few had hairline cracks so I put some araldite on those as well. Anyway started the car up and its exactly the same, no improvement at all Im quite annoyed, I also replaced my O2 sensor due to average fuel economy with an EL one, hopefully that will at least improve (15-16/100km) this is all in an eccs redtop r31

Transmission intermittently stuck in 1st gear

if you can get hold of another computer for the trans try and swap it and see if it retifies it, easy way to check to see if its the computer thats playing up. -
if say there are teeth missing is this an issue, does it mean its likely to get worse and not start properly? I'm one of those people who will wait till its broke to replace it
