  1. No really it is not part of the crumple zone and has nothing to do with structural integrity, go ask any mechanical engineer, if you drill into certain areas then yes you are f**ked but providing it plays no part eg the battery mount there is no issue. I'm an engineer myself and have discussed this with others. If It isn't load bearing and isn't an integral part of any crumple zone designed to transfer force, also providing isn't a hazard to a pedestrian if you run one over any certified mech engineer on the register can and will sign off on this. It isn't just some bs signature with no weight behind it, it is the same as a civil engineer signing off on a bridge saying it is structurally sound and meets the various Australian guidelines for whatever type of construction it is, in this case the appropriate ADRs, for a court to overall this they would need a more qualified engineer to essentially prove their analysis at fault which no one is ever going to bother to do. Like most fourth hand stories Chinese whispers usually plays a big part and changes the way it is worded.
  2. No why would it be? Perhaps structural integrity was a better description. It doesn't mean SFA, cops can still dick you regardless but if you pass with flying colours you can take them to court for harassment and get your money back. Sure it might not be worth doing but if you legitimately aren't doing anything wrong and your car passes a full roadworthy without issue after cops sending you then there is a possibility for recourse, it has been done before. It also shows you are attempting to do things properly, this is appreciated by police and earns you some respect if pulled over. It is an expensive hobby driving a modified vehicle but it isn't pointless to get certs. Make an "application to modify vehicle" and put hole in the engine bay and describe where it is, take a picture even, if it is obvious is isn't going to affect structural integrity then there should be no issue. I've been through full roadworthies in SA with a hole cut there, I am unaware of any VIC specific law that says you can't do it.
  3. Even at shannons you pay more than just car and I am 25 with no claims or at fault accidents in 7 years of driving sports cars, and that was knowing someone who worked there as well. if you are likely to claim often shannons will work out cheaper but I don't plan on driving my car into a tree every few years hence so far just car has been better value.
  4. Just car cover any illegal modification provided it doesn't contribute to the accident. Go with them, wind the premium down and excess up providing you aren't a moron driver and everyone wins.
  5. A good example of this is the 3071 with a 0.63 rear that made 307rwkw on a neo r34 with poncams, made 290 with stock cams, only ~18psi as well, was tuned by one of the guys at nistune themselves and on the morpowa dyno here in Adelaide, reputable tuner and not known to be high reading dyno by any stretch. The dyno picture is in "matts r34" thread on the nistune forums if anyone wants to check it. Guy had all of the most expensive jap brand name (overkill) parts as far as intake, intercooler, exhaust, dump etc goes, the engine was also extremely healthy (neo as well). I think this really shows the merit in good quality parts, no leaks etc as this result is normally what is seen on a gt3076 with a 0.82 rear.
  6. In that case you could very easily go to a mech engineer and get them to sign off on it if it is a non structural part of the vehicle. There is ZERO issue with cutting into non structural parts. Makes no sense to me.
  7. nothing wrong with cutting a hole if it is done in the right place.
  8. Car load is bad enough, loan for a more bits? ugh, it is an expensive hobby for someone with the money let alone if you can't afford it.
  9. You could model it but it is pretty blatantly obvious to me that it would cause a restriction. Expansion then compression again, it is going to cause massive turbulence along with the sharp angles.
  10. Read what I wrote. Also occams razor, the simplest answer is usually the most correct. Is this a big scam and elaborate secret? Or does your intercooler/dump just have issues?
  11. To prove it, it is as simple as measuring pressure before and after the cooler, the larger the differential pressure the larger the restriction. Being as most of you guys are running these turbos on the absolute edge of their flow eg 20psi + it means that if the turbo has to push 20psi to flow 18psi of air without that restriction you just aren't ever going to make that power as if you run 22psi you will just start cooking the air too much. Imo this is the reason why more people seem to not get the results they expect, most people don't buy a garret and run 28psi out the box and expect to make the absolute max, so they can get away with more issues as at say 15psi on a big gt3076 you've got so much room to move on the compressor island a few restrictions or shitty parts and you can just keep running it harder to make the power you want, it is only when pushing the absolute limit of the compressor you'll reach the problem of not making the max power possible with that turbine/compressor. At least that is what I think.
  12. I'm surprised not many VIC people have bought them, just get STATUS to sort you out tuning wise, might save some time as he has done 11ty of them.
  13. When I bought my car and it had a terrible tune on a very old wolf even with a cat it backfired and carried on when deaccelerating.
  14. Yeah they will have a consult cable, reading the flashing lights is a prick and doesn't seem to work sometimes.
  15. Must have been a pretty shit mechanic if they can't line the white mark up lol. Nothing nissan specific about doing a timing belt. Good call with taking it to a workshop, be easier than trying to guess what is wrong with it.
  16. Sounds more like they have specific clauses to stop modified cars being insured as they are high risk. Go with a company that can explain their policies properly and give you a guarantee your car will pass.
  17. Generally unless the parts cause the accident they must pay you out. I've never once heard of a claim of say having a BOV or a big turbo meaning say a rear end accident is not paid out. If you put the wrong wheels on and they fall of causing an accident, then yes very likely they will void your claim. What does the document specifically say? MAY void or WILL void? Does it have any examples? Ask them to clarify.
  18. Does the car run like absolute shit at all revs? If it is out by 2 teeth it would be terrible to drive! I hope that is what is the problem, I just think if that was the case that whoever did the belt would have noticed straight away.
  19. overfueling causing a rich misfire due to air leak, dodgy afm, bad spark (coils or spark plugs). That or it is leaning out due to fuel pump. Smoke test the intake to rule out air leaks, replace the coil packs as good maintenance on a 20 year old car, new plugs with 0.6mm gap to confirm it isn't a spark issue. Change the fuel pump as good maintenance on an unknown 20 year old car.
  20. Consult cable. Take it to a workshop.
  21. Sensors can lag, I had one that lagged massively (had a problem) making my car look like a laggy piece of shit with the boost plot, but the power curve didn't match the boost curve. Oscillations like that could very well have lag attached to them which is why they don't line up. Most the sensors have response times in the ms range but if it is hooked up funny or has problems I have seen it before.
  22. If you were driving it hard the oil could stay in the head for some time. How long had it been since you drove it when you checked it? Was it parked on an angle?
  23. I remember your old head from ages ago had valve float, what did the dyno graph look like when this happened, did it just go flat and not make more power?
