  1. Whatever the cheapest stuff kmart has in 10w40, if it burns oil go 20w50 Also how do you thrash an rb20e, in fact what car even has an rb20e in it, must be horrible to drive!
  2. not for a stock one... what's the point in that? call them to see if they have new ones, most jap importers should have something.
  3. If you seal the crank case gases in it will pressurise and can burn lots of oil, I've seen it happen before. Don't see how it would do anything to the turbo though.
  4. Check the for sale forums and call the jap importers in your area.
  5. If you want massive power with response, surely a 3L is a no brainer if you are going to be rebuilding the motor anyway? A spool short block is much cheaper than a 2.8 stroker, plus it has more capacity.
  6. It would but the head won't flow as well, plus I doubt it just bolts on, probably needs various modifications.
  7. Anyone know if it is a big improvement?
  8. Don't some of the new JZ motors run vvti ?
  9. Doesn't sound right, 8100 xcess is only $60 when you shop around, 4100 is cheaper again. Worst case 8100 is $80, 4100 should never be that price.
  10. What does "better technology" mean?
  11. So what part of the turbo failed for unknown reasons?
  12. That car never made any sense to me, seems like a downgrade to swap the 2JZ out for an rb26. There isn't any good reason why you would do it.
  13. Good point, but surely even 91 octane could handle 7psi with 9:1 compression? Maybe lower static compression and more timing provides better economy/power though.
  14. More troubles with the car, knock loom fixed, made 210kw on 11psi when he wound it up to 19psi all sorts of funny noises started happening. Ended up finding 5!! boost leaks, AAC vac line, AAC gasket, actuator vac line, intercooler silicon joiner and something else that I forgot. Then once that was solved the intake pipe started sucking shut so he is making up a metal intake pipe with bov and catch can return line and painting it black for stealth. Should be done tomorrow hopefully!
  15. In the grand scheme of things 9:1 is low compared to new engines anyway. I honestly don't know why they went 8.5:1 with the rb20s, its not like they were running more than 7psi standard.
  16. looks hot, nice work simon. edit: and crew
  17. What are all the cars for?
  18. If you get it stripped down by a professional and get them to write a report saying detonation killed it then that is definitely an avenue you can pursue, if it was 100% detonation then you could even pursue him for the cost of a replacement motor, but this would almost certainly involve court. If it can't be 100% proven then do not bother though, and remember as soon as you start pointing fingers they are going to be very reluctant to help you.
  19. Suspension set up on a VL is rubbish, even early HR31 skylines have IRS and handle better. Motor is neat but they are too expensive these days for what amounts to a fairly average car.
  20. O2 feedback is only below ~3.5k on low load, if its missing above this it can't make any difference. Also O2 feedback generally makes it leaner, if anything it should make the problem worse unplugging it.
  21. Exactly, something I keep saying, 25w50 $5 oil will almost certainly not kill your motor, probably burn a lot of it and might clog the turbo feeds eventually but it won't be instant death.
  22. The missing if caused by too rich will generally be worse in cold weather as more air, but heat makes the coils spark worse also. Really think everything will be solved with a trip to a competent SAFC tuner who has tuned skylines before.
  23. You are right, but most people will keep their skylines for what ~5 years before upgrading or moving on yeah? It is just putting it in perspective, the better oil really won't make ANY difference, might as well save your cash yeah? Its not like it is an 8 second drag car where it might means you get 20,000kms out of the motor instead of 10,000.
  24. It honestly is a complete waste of money. Get a nissan oil filter and motul 8100 xcess or the full synth sougi one if anyone still has it (probably not). 300v is over $100, if you change it every 5,000 that is $2000 over that time! you could buy a whole new motor and have change for that haha.
  25. Motul 8100 or sougi is better value, motul 300v is far to expensive for a daily driver. 100,000kms of oil changes and you could have bought a whole new motor LOL
