  1. Has the builder ever built rb30s before?
  2. Then why are you? What went wrong to stop testing?
  3. might have been diluting the intake charge with exhaust super heating it perhaps.
  4. sigh finally got on the dyno and the broken knock sensor loom I supplied they must not have fixed properly, result is misfire as soon as it gets on boost. ffs it is just a single pin that needed to be soldered, should have done it myself, guess it'll have to be monday now while they source a replacement
  5. Someone probably graphed lots of results and that is the line of best fit, = 160kw which doesn't sound too far off the mark.
  6. Unless your old one was sucking shut causing boost issues, no.
  7. Hot fuel is no issue at all, if anything it helps atomisation.
  8. yeah but they sound like a truck so any argument is null and void
  9. Just out of curiosity why does valve float give it a tendency to ping, wouldn't it decrease dynamic compression?
  10. might help to get your terminology right next time, would have give a completely different answer if you said misfiring and not pinging. Completely different things, detonation destroys motors, misfire is just annoying.
  11. Crunching is just syncros, doesn't mean it will blow up, just that it is annoying to change. Outright torque and brutal gear changes are what kills boxes, so don't go slapping gears and you should be fine at stock power levels. I've gotten well over a year out of my 20 box with a 240kw rb25 behind it.
  12. awd will always lunch a rwd on the launch if they drop the clutch at 5k
  13. Yeah a 240kw turbo that comes on like the stock one is nothing short of amazing in a street car
  14. yes but highly unlikely in his case
  15. They are taking their sweet ass time installing the new idler bearing and putting it on the dyno to check AFRs, hopefully will have it done tomorrow, if not I'm off to moomba for a week in the gas fields and they are going to have to have it sitting around there for ages. Really itching to drive it before I leave!
  16. Would make more sense as it is extremely common for an annoying misfire at peak torque with stock tune skylines. Pinging sounds like marbles being shaken around in a tin can, misfire sounds like the rev limiter, pop pop pop
  17. Excellent! You can put your boost controller back and run 10-12psi again now.
  18. It costs $40 to run it up on a local dyno before hand, we all want to see the before/after results!
  19. Yeah but end of the day they out perform an RB in everyway, sure it isn't as impressive from an engineering standpoint due to it being pushrod and 6 (thats a f**kload) litres. However it weighs less, makes more torque, power, and also more average power. How can you not want one?
  20. Would be great, even better make an interactive excel document with all of them overlayed so you can select which ones you want and compare. Would just need all the data and wouldn't be too hard to do, would certainly make deciding which turbo much easier, currently there are too many and deciding is very difficult, mainly as it is hard to compare what is the best, eg peak power, response, power band width etc.
  21. just a turbo that maxes at 260kw and run that everyday, no real need for high / low boost imo.
  22. he has already done it, but good call for people considering in the future.
  23. Take it off and cut the end off the hose and refit it properly, you don't silicone vacuum hoses lol, you just cut them and fit them properly with a clamp.
  24. I'd honestly recommend more like 260 in a street car, more power under the curve and much over that is just going to light the tyres up anyway especially at legal speeds.
