SplitFire Coil packs for R32: GTS/GTST/GTR R33: GTS/GTST(series 1 only) Please note*** R33 1995 GTSTs from February onwards use different coil packs(the series2 ones, I learnt this the hard way!) Hi people, bought these a couple of weeks ago and realised that these are not the ones for my series 1.5 R33GTST. As such I just want near enough to the price I bought them for: $500AU should do me fine Would prefer to deal with a Melbourne buyer, so I dont need to arrange delivery etc..   4. Hi 97r33gtst-typeM, When you dyno'ed, were you running at stock boost or above? This may make an impact on differences in output. Like I've said before, I havent figures to compare before and after new cooler, but I could definately tell the difference (Im not just talking about the greater induction noise; with the 34'cooler in, it is feeling stronger). Like you said its not 20kw stronger like a FMIC - this goes without saying, but seeing that I could feel a significant difference I would say we must be talking about a 5% improvement at least. That would be about the 8-10rwkw area which kinda sounds like the improvement sdm33 got. This may be felt more so with boost levels above stock where the lower volume and efficiency(?) of the stock cooler being less able to support higher boost and power levels. From what Ive read, the 34's cooler has 50% more volume than the 33's and is more efficient(how much more Im not sure).
  5. Hi guys, based on my experience, r34 cooler fits fine with plastic guard although its a bit tight (the plastic guard makes contact on the bottom of the cooler). I found that the guard wont sit exactly flush with the guard; the guard will bend out o little bit, but if you use the plastic button things to fasten it on, it will be fine. I bought Georges cooler off him (thanks mate) and my car went from 156kw atw to 165 with no other changes. Then we put the boost up to 10psi and got 190atw so I am of the opinion that it is a great mod for the price. I will say that my stock cooler was a bit damaged so that may have something to do with the difference. As wolverine said, for 30 minutes work and 150 bucks I cant think of much better. Thanks for that sdm33, good to know, thats what it feels like on mine too. Terrific little mod this one..
  6. Doh, yeh thats right! Hmm, might plan my trip in reverse, starting in Devonport and goin southwest first then east to hobart then north up east coast and return to devonport via Launceeston. Only thing is maybe wont have time to really see all those areas Ive mentioned, thinking of dropping the far north west (Marrawah) or far south (Southport) to give me more time at other places. What do you guys think? is Southport and Marrawah worth visiting or other areas better?
  7. At the moment (ATM) its: Arrive Sunday morn 7am. Sunday: Launceston to Port Arthur (although this doesnt give me much time to see much of east coast. Monday: Port Arthur to Southport and Back to Hobart, and move northwest possibly staying at Strathgordon overnight. Tuseday:Strathgordon to Strauhan /Queenstown. Queenstown to Cradle Mountain(if time permitting otherwise skip cradle mountain) then north and west to Marrawati, staying overnight somewhere on the north coast. Wednesday: Back to Launceston by mid afternoon ~5pm and leave with ferry at 7pm.
  8. OK possible route: Start at Launceston, head east to St Helens, then straight down the coast down to Port Arthur. From Port Arthur to Hobart and go south as far as Southport, then return to Hobart and then on to New Norfolk and Strathgordon for Wilderness cruising (this bit looks great for cruising). From Strathgordon back on the A10 travelling north to Queenstown and Strahan. Return to Queenstown and travel north to Cradle Mountain. From Cradle Mountain to Somerset, and head west to Marrawah. Then head East to Devonport and onto Launceston. This is what Im thinking of atm, Will mostly stay on the main highways as I assuming these will be the best roads to drive on. I know I have missed most of the central regions, are they worth looking into? Any places that you all think I should go see around my travel path or otherwise? Any suggestions will be great. Thanks for all your suggestions so far. Nutshack, I realize 4 days wont be enough to come even close to seeing it all but this is all the time Ive got atm. The other thing is while I have a route for travel Im not sure what to expect as far as travel times and what to schedule on each day.
  9. Both north and south Nutsack, am planning to try and go right round tassie in four days, dont know if this is realistic, but I wont be staying in one place too long though. Im really looking for some wilderness rainforest areas which I love to see; wilderness costal areas in particular. Cradle mountain sounds good, sounds very good love the twisty stuff through alpine regions. Will have to get more info on exact location though, as Ive never heard of it. Im curious on the Targa tasmania route, this sounds quite interesting. Does targa tassie route cover most of tasmania or is it located at particular areas? I think this is a good start for me selecting route of travel. Want to see as much of tassie as possible. Is there a Tasmanian rural road directory available at all, I think this will be really handy for me; actually its prob a necessity in case I get lost.
  10. Thanks for the input Nutsack, no 98RON... how about 95RON availability? If theres 95RON and I carry with me a few bottles of Octane booster it shouldnt be a problem. Now if no 95RON, Im in trouble methinks.. As far as driving routes go, are the main highways the best way to get about or are there lesser known secondary roads that are better for the scenic/driving experience?
  11. Hi Guys, a Victorian here looking at coming down in January (~ about four days) for sight seeing (and for the glorious roads, or so I hear ). Im in the planning stages determining travel path, hotels, 98RON petrol availability costs, etc.. and I was hoping to get a few tips from the locals on these issues amongst others. A few questions and issues that I need help on: 1. What is 98RON availability status currently? If its still really hard to come buy I need to stock up on octane boosters before I come 2. Police presence, am I likely to get hassled by the local law enforcement authorities ? not that my car is really modded, its pretty quiet and fairly stock, but some places you go, you have issues anyways. 3.Some suggested places I could visit for sight seeing, and cruising, good roads with lots of nature around me, this is what Im coming to Tassie for. 4. Motel costs and availability in Tassie. At the moment my plan is to get to Tassie, and with a pre determined travel path worked out, just find a local motel where I can stay for the evening, and move on the following day. Is finding accomodation in Jan going to be difficult? Any help will be greatly appreciated...... Cheers!
  12. Thanks for the replies guys, I think I will take it in to get the job done professionally. As much as I would like to do it myself, I think the risk of poor brake feel puts me off turning it into a learning experience.
  13. Why is that Ben? Is it rather complicated to bleed the brakes by yourself? Ive read a couple of threads that described kits that can be bought allowing you to bleed the brakes without help, and I remember one thread refering to bleeding the brakes in a particular sequence, but Im not sure exactly what they were refering to. If its going to be a complicated procedure I might just go to a brake place and get them to change everything for me instead. Its just that I been really getting into the DIY stuff of late; its rewarding for starters, you learn quite a bit about your car and you save a fair bit of money in the process.
  14. Hi guys, Im looking at changing my pads and rotors which are now quite worn, and Ive seen the user guides on how to do this and seeing it looks fairly simple, I think I'll try this myself. While Im doing this, I might as well bleed the brakes and change brake fluid, since I havent done so since I got my r33 (2 years now). Thing is I have no idea how to, can anyone give me some pointers at all, tried searching but couldnt find anything. Any help appreciated!
  15. Hi guys, Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I though I would just post my feelings on this topic again. I just bought and installed an R34 gtt intercooler on my car, I would say that based on my initial impressions, I think it was worth it. Dont get me wrong, Im not seeing masssive differences in power, but I can defiinately feel a significant difference between the new cooler and stock one. It feels like your upping the boost 0.1bar (or so) more.l As far as actual power differences go I have no idea what sort of improvement I have achieved, but I think that to really notice any difference, you would have to improve power levels by at least 5% so Im assuming were looking at 8-10rwkw. This is all at 0.7bar mind you, so Im not sure if that makes any difference. Does anyone have or heard of any real figures on improvements with this sort of upgrade? Would be interested to know.

  17. Same thing here, when I drop from 5th to 4th doing over 90kph it grinds back into 4th. Must be an inherent flaw with the r33 box.
  18. Thanks for the info wolverine! Did you see any improvement in power at all? Im assuming you would probably only see a minor improvement? Im thinking the more efficient cooler may help my car somewhat in the hotter months ahead.
  19. LOL , thanks for the advice Mick! I think my next step is to buy a more detailed directory of all of Victoria and not just Melbourne Metro area and look for potential cool driving sites. Anyone know of any really good detailed directories covering Victoria, in particular the Greatdividing/Alpine regions.

Hi gts, yeh I realise its not going to give the gains that a FMIC will but at 1/10 of the price (approx $150 for 2nd hand) it seems to me to be fairly decent value, unless someone knows otherwise. how much better than r33 one, does anyone have any figures on it (Ive tried a search couple of times but Ive only found general statements bout efficiency).
  21. Hi guys, have heard that the standard r34gtt cooler fits straight in place of the stock r33 cooler. Can anyone confirm this for me? Also, I have read that the stock r33 cooler is efficient up to 180rwkw, the r34 cooler is supposedly thicker and more efficient, does anyone know how much power its good for?

  23. Fantastic, thats heaps of places for me to try, this is gonna keep me busy for sometime methinks. Thanks Predator. Tassie is something I really want to do sometime soon, take the car down via ferry and cruise the whole island. Studied in Adelaide for 3 years and lived right on the hills, and yep, that was terrific too (had a pintara back then that handled like a boat, so didnt really do it for me. Ive been meaning to go down to the GOR for some time know. The only thing that worries me bout it is all the 'Sunday' casual drivers there kinda slowing things down and diluting the experience. How bout cops? do you get issues with them patroling the highway down there or is it pretty quiet. That was another good thing bout reefton spur, very quiet, only went past 3-4 cars each way when I was going. Incidently, black spur and Reefton spur are two diff roads, heard that black spur is good too, but I think you get lots more traffic there. Anyone else have suggestions?
  24. Hi guys! Had the most incredible drive yesterday. A friend of mine and myself went up past Warburton to reefton spur; if any of you guys read Speed Magazine you may remember an article in April/May edition involing a run with a mini cooper S through the back way to Lake mountain just past Mt Donna Buang, youll know what Im talking about. After reading the article, I was really keen to try it out. I was driving my car and my friend has an MX5, and together we had what was both for me and my friend the best experience we have ever had in a car, period. For you guys who havent been there, this is one scenic, challenging stretch of road. It consists of a whole series of blind corners and very few straights. The best thing about it though is that you dont have to exeed the speed limit at all to really enjoy yourself. There are few places where you will hit the 100kph limit, and then only briefly as you gear down and break into the next set of seemingly never ending corners. Guys if you like your corners, the Spur is a must. Its amazing. Like I said, my friend that came with me had an MX5 and I think he had it much easier than me; those things handle like go-carts, it was really in its territory, there was no way coming down the spur I was gonna keep up with him, but regardless for me it was simply brilliant. A word of caution though, this is a serious piece of bitumen. While in good condition, the road is narrow, it drops off with dense canopy, and with the blind corners, you cant afford to drive like a crazy, always assume your gonna pass someone round the corners and make sure your brakes are up to scratch. Now this drive has left me wanting to experience more. Just wanted to hear from others if they know any other of our local roads that are a real joy to drive on.
  25. Thanks for the info Zensoku, I think I might check it out tomorrow. Is there any easy way of Identifying if the housing or compressor has been modded without taking the turbo apart?
