  1. Hahaha, the car I have heard that sounds most like, infact probably got their recordings from a similar car, was a non-turbo SR20 in a SSS pulsar. Its got some head work done and cams with a nice small exhaust ( 2.5" I think, so it flows well for the power of the engine, which was engine dynoed at 155KW ) and a nice hi-flow muffler on the end. The cams are very noticable and it makes that loud motor bike noise. See, a turbo car will always sound less chunky because the gasses have a exhaust wheel to go through. Small NA cars from the ones I have owned... then turboed, have sounded more racey and F&F style... but they certainly don't go as well as the decent power cars. Quietest car I have owned is my GTR...
  2. People keep saying gaskets... have listed gaskets already... There is no damage to any of the engine... its just old. Should I reco the head even tho this is the case? Wasn't considering rods after I read an article saying they are good for 350RKWK+... Timing belt, plugs, oil/filter.... mmm yeah true... more stuff. So the price of around $6K for parts is ok tho by the sounds of it. Including new cams and ecu. Is it really that hard to do it yourself? Whats the things that you would say is just to hard (risky) to do yourself, given I have never taken more than a tappet cover and a turbo off before.
  3. That is a price list made up from nengun shopping cart. I have opted for those parts as they are the only parts I could find on the web site. I have also opted to use this website because all parts seem cheaper than anything else. Ofcourse I would shop around before actually doing it, this is just a guide for me. I don't intend to leave things out, thats why I am asking opinions, I have never pulled an engine down before. Greddy/Trust - Large Oil Pump AU $ 1,074.09 Nismo - RB26DETT Engine Parts Main Bearing Inner Set AU $ 214.25 Add that, total is up to Order Total AU $ 5,246.32 + Shipping ofcourse. See thats why I asked, cause I know I have probably forgotten more stuff and its now becoming clear that I really can't afford this and am probably better off selling.
  4. Wow, this thread which I have nicely dug up, has encouraged me to rebuild. Price seems a little awesome in your case though. Oil pump - Is that required? Big End Bearings - Is that required if no issue? APEXi - Power FC & Hand Controller AU $ 947.08 Greddy/Trust - Cam Pully AU $ 152.40 Greddy/Trust - Cam Pully AU $ 152.40 Greddy/Trust - Clear Cam Cover AU $ 83.67 Greddy/Trust - Forged Piston Kit AU $ 1,491.58 Tomei - Pon Cam Shafts AU $ 705.24 Tomei - RB26DETT Gasket combination AU $ 384.90 Order Total AU $ 3,917.28 Have I considered enough stuff? I'm thinking cams and cam gears are a good idea while I'm there. Really just wanted new rings, but rings and pistons lead to gaskets which lead to Cams which meant ECU. What are thoughts? Not sure if to re-build or sell and get something thats already awesome....
  5. Go the extra yards and get a GTR. How is stock unreliable and not street driveable... and you'll crack 12's all day long Bit more to pay up front, but you get the best of all worlds.
  6. Are you sure your piping is fine.... u'd wanna hope its not fine, cause if it is, you have jolted your turbo and your exhaust wheel has come a gutsa, and its really damaged so struggling to spool. Pull off your dumps and check it out
  7. tradingpost maybe, but i posted a link to one on prestige or j-spec can't remember for 28k landed and complied
  8. I love skylines. Actual real love.
  9. Maybe... Still, I don't know how overrated they are in here... people seem confused. You do realise that Nissan made the GTR to be faster than the GTSt don't u? Even the R33 GTR. Thats why I think they'll come good, give them time.
  10. Maybe people worry too much about the IMAGE of the car. I sold a very hot non-turbo full body kitted 96 supra. Sooooo much attention from all sorts of people in that car, most people would have said it was hotter than any skyline, I didn't care, sold it. But I think that the idea of the GTR should be, as is my idea, to have a car for ME, so I can drive it. Everytime it comes on boost I smile, thats what its all about. R33 is not as light and fast as the R32 so probably not as fun, maybe thats its problem... It will get cheaper soon, then they'll sell as the awesome fun car they are... anyone who thinks they'd prefer a GTSt over a GTR isn't in it for the drive.... maybe they'd better suit a lancer with full evo kit... chicks dig those.
  11. My turbos let go. Running standard boost. Just old. Exhaust wheel off one came off completley, went and said G'Day to the cat. like it down there... stayed. The other was just damaged since the day I bought it, I think it went down there too. Must be unlucky if they get sucked BACK into an engine, I thought the exhaust gas would typically blow it out.
  12. And again. 10K kit for a 13.6? 22K for a WHOLE GTR will go in the 12's. Then go get you "KIT" later, find some 11's....
  13. I don't understand why you would go with a GTSt if you are after 300kw @ wheels... It would take alot more to get them there. A GTR can get 300kw @ wheels with very minimal mods. Get one now, beat him now. In 5 years when he does whatever you said about some crazy kit, you would have already built up CAMS, Bigger Turbos, PowerFC, bigger injectors, so on. You could be looking at 350kw @ wheels pretty easy with that combo. The GTR is always going to be lighter too. Just think of the extremes, if you bought an excel and beefed it up.. the limit would be very low of what you can achieve. SO to a lesser extent, the limit of GTSt is lower (with the given budget)
  14. Look at tradingpost!!!!! Why are you bothering getting a GTSt if you already have the plan to mod it. Start with a GTR. R32 GTR's going for around 23K with a few goodies, saw a black one with N1 turbos and a claimed 250KW @ wheels (something like that). Get something that already goes fast so you know what you are getting into the day you buy it.
  15. Yes, RX Engineering are the bomb with microtech. I think thats why I always argue the point that a Microtech fixed my old car. Made it start better, idle better and drive better, and increased the power by a SH#T load. They are def. worth a call! They are always busy tho, got lots of fast cars to tune
  16. Mine is cooler than that alot of time while cruising and only goes over sometimes when in traffic... hope its not bad...
  17. Hell yeah!!! Thats the best idea to come outta this thread. I'd luv to watch that! THey'd come up with some cool tests indeed.
  18. Yeah $1000+ is RRP for split fires, but don't worry, even if you did want them, you could get them for less than $700. If you just want stock, its going to be under $200 for the set.
  19. Reliablitiy for a few races maybe. How long before they need to rebuild there engines or turbos? I didn't know the race cars could kick around for 300,000kms on an oil change and changing the spark plugs everynow and then. I think you kinda have to agree there is a little difference in the amount of time we spend on turbo maintanence compared to a race car... I think they don't need turbo timers cause they can actually wait around and cool the car down properly like you said. When I nip down to the bottle shop, I'm gonna boost up, as is my want, when I then shut my car straight off like the careless owner I am, its better to have the timer than not, in my opinion anyway.
  20. Um thats EXACTLY my point dude. My car is NOTHING LIKE AN F1!!!! Thats why I'm saying people who were saying "F1's don't run BOV's so theres your answer" are comparing something not worth comparing. Turbo timers have nothing to do with BOV's nor do air filters. My point there was: Just because something is on your car to help it last longer and doesn't provide a performance gain, doesn't make it rice. Man seriously, did you read my post at all?? Like in context of the discussion?
  21. Its best to use a LT12 for a 6 cyl car. You can make some additional outputs run the other injectors and use a LT8, but you don't get full functionality if doing so. In saying that you probably don't NEED FULL functionality of the ECU and they are a good unit.
  22. I need coils. Where are you located?
  23. Is a turbo timer rice too??? it doesn't help performance, just helps keep your engine healthy. What about air filters? they don't help performance, they just help it last longer, lets f#7k them off too. How many big drag cars run no filters and no BOV's and no turbo timers? HEAPS!!!!! So lets all do that on our street cars, cause we all know that DRAG cars and F1 cars are AWESOME for cruising around with minimal time spent under the bonnet fixing stuff.
  24. Ummm.... boost IS THE PRESSURE IN THE PIPING... so its the same as the speed you are going DOES make a difference to how fast you are going.... Why are you talking about BOV setting boost levels? BOV's DO NOT CONTROL boost. They are just a valve, a blow off valve infact. It will open when the vacuum lines sucks the valve open. The tension in the spring is something you may want to consider, a heaps hard spring won't open as easily but will limit leak.
