R34 GTR V-spec Skyline VS HSV or FPV
psybic replied to fLipKnot's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Yeah the holdens and fords have the numbers... well they advertise the numbers. my na supra went reasonably well against an SS. Thats just crazy. They must talk up there kws by alot. I'd luv to run one in my 32GTR, I think they would disapoint the bogans out there. ps - as for the original question... its not serious is it? is it even a question? -
WTF...R32 GTR Speed limited..!..?
psybic replied to PSI_GTSII's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Don't know why people are having problems with people saying speed cut wasn't till 200. My supra and skyline have both speed cut pretty much spot on 200. I can tell this by looking at the speedo and its a damn site closer to where the 200 would be written than the 180 mark. Maybe they were wrong, but I promise both cars were bloody close to 200km when they hit it. -
My celica was similar to this when I first got it converted to 3SGTE. just ran like a dog for no good apparent reason. 62KW at the wheels in fact. on 7psi with exhaust and small front mount. Microtech goes on, fixed up mixtures and got rid of standard dump pipe and AFM, but mostly due to the good tune possible once microtech was on... 125kw@wheels on 9psi. so double the power, due to a better fuel mix. Have dyno sheets. I'd be getting the fuel mix and timing checked out. If you get someone who knows what they are doing to install a power FC, it will make ALL the difference. The old ECU probably just is too old, some sensors are probably not running how they did stock, stuff like that, good tune will save the day and u need good ecu to do that.

Where is the dyno? I'll go for a power run on that anytime. Its too high.

Questions for '89-'90 Model GTR Owners
psybic replied to 46n2's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Mine was probably the cheapest, with the actual price being $9,600. So with all import costs and stuff itemised up top came to around $17,000 for everything with 12mnths rego. Although, being the cheapest of the bunch, its needed a little help. $500 for new exhaust piping from turbos to cat. $650 for new bushes and stuff up front end suspension area. $2000 for new turbos and cooling to be fixed, as was blocked. so for $21,000 its pretty good. Rims and some touch up on the paint, then maybe a few more mechanical issues if they occur of the next few months, should see a tidy car with high kms for around $25K. -
How can you tell if your GTR is a V-Spec?
psybic replied to Topaz's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
They aren't that much different. Its the same as like the difference between a VT or a or VT series 2 commodore ( if that ). Just newer and a few revisions. I have an N1 radiator LOL and N1 windows! and N1 glove box!!! wooooo, I'm on a roll! In short, yes, don't worry to much about the v-spec tag. -
WTF...R32 GTR Speed limited..!..?
psybic replied to PSI_GTSII's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
The limiter is definatly alot closer to 200 than 180. I have hit it more than once and I can tell you its pretty close to 200, can't be sure cause the speedo only reads to 180, but its WAY past that. I like it though, enforce me to "keep it real" -
WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR IN a R32 GTR
psybic replied to TiNTiN's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I see... thats where I went wrong... -
I wouldn't say they are the same... They have more cylinders and alot of other differences. But its easy to get parts that you are talking about. RB26 oil filters can be purchased from BigW as can bulbs and things. There is plenty of parts in Oz though, people always use this argument to aid their cause for saying imports are sh!t. But I had my windscreen replaced for about $300 before it could be registered. That was supplied and fitted... its not that bad. There is also plenty of people on here with any part you could need.
-
No I mean if they are screwed, like one of mine was... and the other one soon followed, but yeah, I reckon 30K is plenty to have a daily driver R32GTR. I have only spent about $22K total on mine so far, thats fixed exhaust, suspension and turbos + lots of labour. I expect a few more thousand, but hope to have a reasonable looking and pretty reliable example for under or around $25K once all said and done.

http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/au/st...sp?StockID=3113 Thats what you are after. You'd have that on road for around $23-$24k, leaves enough for new turbos, maybe clutch, take out radiator and flush it make sure the cooling is working properly (not blocked like mine) or other little issues. I think it can be done for under $30,000. Besides that car looks HOT HOT and I wish I had it instead of my gun metal one! DO IT!!!!!
-
Who has 10k spare?? YOU DO! If you only spend $20K on the car, you have $10K spare don't you? You can easily get an R32 GTR in the country and on the road for less than $20K. In pretty nice looking condition too. There are heaps on J-Spec for around $17-$18k landed and complied. Then you get it, compression test it and do what you gotta do. For the extra $10K you got, you could have a nice reliable example. Just don't go for power before making sure its got good cooling and and stuff.

no bov low boost .5 stock bov .7 bar boost?
psybic replied to 1400r's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Try a harder spring. Had an after market BOV on old car, didn't open at idle. You could see it clearly shut, didn't leak until i put a soft spring in it being a ricer seeking noise... -
Get what you pay for is biggest cop out ever. Obviously its true to an extent, but there IS such a thing as a bargain and DEFINATLY such a thing as being ripped off. If I put $40K on the for sale sign on my skyline, does that make it worth this much? After that rant... They are old, so regardless WHAT you pay or how many kms they SAY it has... you gotta be prepared. I was.. I even said to all my mates I would be replacing turbos and clutch for sure.... sure enough two blown turbos are on my car. (now just waiting for clutch or something else) Agree with all that has been said about saving to fix it up. Even after you fix it, its still a bargain of a car, but just make sure you remember to save ready to fix it, don't mod it until you fix it.

post a pic of your favourite 32 gtr
psybic replied to twoquik's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Hmmm, ok, you right, me wrong. http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/index.php?ID=2894 Not many tho -
I'm happy with it at Paul's for now. We just need to find some turbo's.
-
Yeah, ceramic in the cat. 1.5 wheels worth apparently. At least I know that while I "thought" my car was fast, it really should have been alot quicker... guess I can look forward to see how GTR's really go... shames its gonna cost a few thousand $$$ to get there...
-
Result.... Turbo's are BOTH f#cked! One was partially gone for a while, but I didn't know any better, so I just thought thats what a GTR did (was still pretty damn fast) Then the night in question... the other one went also. ... at least it wasn't my dodgey intercooler pipe replacing... I'm going to continue crying now... Anyone got some turbos they wanna sell me?
-
Yeah... we are gonna have a good look at it tonight. I agree, its either a whole pipe come unstuck somewhere, or another issue, cause there is no hissing sound of a small leak. Will post the answer tomorrow, cause we WILL FIND IT DAMNIT!!! ps - just normal vacuum hoses would be the go for replacing vacuum lines, i reckon anyway.
-
yeah, i was thinking it might be somewhere there as i can't see anything wrong with the actual intercooler piping... but i couldn't get to the bov pipework... its on the passenger side down low isn't it? i can't even work out where the bov is... how do i get to it to check it?? looks like i'll have to take off the front bar...
-
yeah, thats the thing. I was actually taking it for a test drive with the belt off, to see if it was ok to drive with out power steering. so when it went, the belt was already out of the car, i wasn't going nuts... everything was normal. I have just checked the pipes again... its hopeless.... nothing... thanx heaps for the ideas guys... i'm just useless.... *crys*
-
Haha, yes. I noticed it while driving. Although boost doesn't go much over 0psi with no load, you can normally here the turbos, but at the moment NOTHING. I was thinking maybe actuators were stuck open, so tryed to drive it up and down the street a bit on varying loads to maybe unstick them (foolish plan I know). It would be strange they would both go at once. I reckon its gotta be that too hey. Just be screwed if I can find it. I was certain it was the top pipe off the inlet of the turbos. cause I had just taken it off to attend to the power steering pump. So when it went, I was like, I know EXACTLY what that is... then I pulled over, and its fine.... I guess I should just go check ALL of the pipe work... it would be weird if one blew off besides the one I was messing with....
-
Reset the ECU. No change. It's like the turbos aren't even there. They make no attempt to spool. There is no noise at all from them. There is possibly more noise going on under the tappet cover than normal. Thats the only difference in noise. HELP HELP! Some of you guys must have some idea...
-
OK OK, now this has elevated status to critical. Replaced the power steering pumps belt today and power steering is back better than ever.... NO TURBO'S!!! NONE. Car is very drivable, sounds a little weird when it would normally be boosting, but besides that, drives pretty normal. Am going over to reset ECU now... been checking for signs of leak from cooler piping... nothin' Am a nervous kid.
