  1. I think people fear anything that ISN'T plug and play too much. You give the ECU the TPS, CAS, RPM, TEMP, MAP/AFM inputs, then it works out what to do and sends the INJ and IGN outputs. Its not heaps hard to hook that up. Most people would be able to do it themselves with a bit of patience and a pinout diagram. Certainly I don't think its worth the $500 most places charge to wire in an ECU. There are ECU's ranging from $950 - $1300 to suit 6 cyl ignition and injection. I think people fear the installation way too much. Took me 4hrs or so first go. That was with ALOT of multiple checks to ensure started first go. If you can install an SAFC, then you can install a full ECU just as easily. Just takes a little longer. e-manage ultimate is VERY interesting to me. A little longer again to wire in, as you need to leave the stock ECU in place and intercept each signal wire to injectors and ign ( afaik, never wired one of these, or seen more than one or two decent diagrams, too new for decent info ), but cheaper and SHOULD be easier to tune as the base tune is your current ECU's tune. Also with USB connectivity and new software, seems they are geared to be user friendly.
  2. Didn't take long to dispatch the silvia's. I was a little surprised how quick they jumped infront.
  3. Blue Wire Mod Go here and scroll to the bottom. States a few little reason why you wouldn't bother. I guess the point is, its virtually useless, so not many reasons to do it, but there are a few reasons NOT to do it... so I'd stick with NOT.
  4. Bigger injectors with only a SAFC2 would be hard to tune. Alot of correction would be required. I don't think its hard to understand how an SAFC works. People should firstly work that out with a search, then the answers would be so much more obvious. Its only altering the signal to the AFM input into the ECU. Thats the ONLY thing it alters. It uses other inputs to work out how much by, like RPM, TPS... but thats ALL it actually has any effect on... Ofcourse, changing the signal saying how much air is on the way in, changes things according to the way the ECU deals with that new info, including Ign and Injection control. Its just shifting the section u are in on the map. Shifting you slightly closer to, or away from R&R in your case. So you'll put x amount of correction and you'll have that little more air allowed to come in before you hit it.
  5. Harsh... especially when you are saying the computer is $800 more.... I know of one ECU that runs six ignition drivers for about $1000. Adaptronic I think its called, search on that one. Also, if you wanna go with a better known brand, Microtech LT12s is NOT $800 more than the LT10s. Its only an extra $300 I believe. I've often wondered why not just run 6 bosch coils with leads to your plugs. Should only cost a few hundred to set up and pair that with the adaptronic, you get the whole setup for under 1500 i'd imagine... if you can wire it yourself. Id do that if I had an RB engine in need of coils and ecu.
  6. Why does everyone say a GOOD TUNE all the time... What do they mean? When I think of a tune, I think of making sure the fuel and or ignition maps are in order... how do you do this with a stock ECU? A good tune takes alot more than a dyno run at your tuner's shop. I would say, you need to look at other threads where people are having issues. On pretty much any page of the forced induction section u'll find someone bitching about a miss during certain rpms on their r33's... a little further searching will show this is often cause they run too rich... so get an safc or aftermarket ECU.. then... go for that GOOD TUNE
  7. Wow. That Adaptronic looks very interesting. Looks like a pretty decent option for the price. Certainly tested on many vehicles with plenty of info. I like the amount of info you can find on their site. Good choice for a skyline as it has six ignition drivers, where as most other brands like EMS and microtech, you have to pay extra for the ECU that will best run a 6cyl vehicle. Don't think its cheap enough to compete on the 4cyl front tho, as 4cyl ECU's such as Microtech's LT10 can be had cheaper once u include loom and ignition module.
  8. There is a map sensor in R33's now? Awesome.... when did they get that?
  9. Ever tried driving from the back seat??? I haven't... so who cares about the back seat. shag in the front!
  10. Sounds hot, so I'm very interested. R33 GTSt Series 2 Keen for trade. I'm in Newcastle.
  11. x2 for swap. R33 GTSt Series 2 I'm in Newcastle.
  12. Little bump only. No fuss buyers please. SAFC now installed, not yet tuned.
  13. Agree on the self-tune... not much point for everyday users there. However, you say that the blue controls timing and fuel maps... does it only do this by altering the AFM input signal? Or does it actually send signal out to the injectors and ignitors as does the Ultimate? If its the former, then I'd suggest there is alot more reasons to go for the Ultimate, leave self-tune aside... actually controlling the timing directly and injectors directly is a big advantage.
  14. I'm talking about the e-Manage ultimate. Not the first one, which is cheaper and I haven't researched. Sounds like, from what Dan666 says, it works like the SAFC. Where as the Ultimate has greater control from what I can see. cookiebear - I haven't ever researched the uni chip, although I know alot of WRX's use it, possibly due to MRT seeming to use it alot. e-Manage Ultimate is a fair bit different in what it can do from the e-Manage Blue from what I have been able to find out so far.
  15. Yeah the ECU is remapped.... a remapped STOCK ECU. So yes really, it is a stock ECU. With a map you don't know about. Wanna know how else to remove R&R -> SAFC tells your current ECU its seeing less air than it is. Thats what they are used for. Thats what most people use them for. You know... they don't actually RE-PROGRAM the remapped ecu's. Thats why they are called remapped. They just change the map. So the algorithms remain the same. Its just when a certain point on the map is reached, it has new values. The functions that calculate what to send to each output remain in the ECU and are called by the processor, which also remains the same. Its only the little 2 dimensional array which is altered in a fuel map and same can be done in the ignition map. Other values stored can be altered also, such as speed cut, etc. Its whole bunch of HEX values stored in one file.
  16. Can't believe he didn't just close this thread... All computers have slightly different specs. It doesn't really matter that much it would seem. No one ECU has ever stood out as a better performer than the others. I wouldn't normally dable in a ECU war thread these days as they turn out pointless in all cases, but I thought I'd take this opportunity to discuss E-Manage Ultimate. E-Manage ultimate was brought to my attention a little while ago ... If keeping the stock ECU is an option ( as usually is, only if an engine conversion goes down, it may not be ) then the E-Manage ultimate gives the you ignition and injector control. It DOES NOT appear to work the same as SAFC. SAFC only changes the input into the AFM sensor going to the ECU. E-Manage Ultimate appeared to change the output going to the injectors and the ignition. This means you do have fair greater control and in my opinion, enough control. It also has the ability to use a MAP sensor. This means it has the same abilities ( when coupled with a stock ECU ) as a true fully programmable ECU, except, it doesn't need a base map. This means its more universal and tuning should be easier. For around $600 the basic unit is cheaper than the others as it should be, being a piggy back. With a plug in adaptor, its around $750 perhaps? It does have timing and fuel map full control tho, so its nothing like SAFC or SAFC NEO. Its a clever way of doing what the stand alone ECU's already do ( for most people. as most people do have a stock ECU they are upgrading from, which gets thrown out or left in the car to take car of fuel pump relay or little jobs like that. ) At the end of the day, I'll always remain a "Follow tuners advice" man. However, this new e-manage is a little exciting as it seems to have the goods at a decent price.
  17. So its not an ECU, its just a modified ROM. So its just a remap. So you want to sell your ECU, buy another one that has been remapped ( as beer baron says, without knowing what its been mapped for ), THEN, correct it with an SAFC? Why are u swapping one stock ECU for another stock ECU ( with a different map ) then correcting it with an SAFC?? Why not just correct your current ECU with the SAFC? As soon as you start tuning with the SAFC, that is the device with the accuracey for the tune. If you want more accuracey and control than an SAFC, you will need a decent ECU that can be tuned. NOT a stock ECU which has been remapped.
  18. Yeah fair call. Stick with your tuner for sure! If you are trying to save money though, I'd find a tuner that was happy with microtech. I have gone from stock to Microtech's in TWO cars. Both cars felt like different machines after the full tune. Idle was mint, mid range was so strong and response was improved heaps. Don't worry about the new LT series microtech's, any tuner who knows what they are doing with one, will give you a smooth result, fit for a track or dailey driven car. As you say tho, if you like your tuner, he says EMS, I'd stick with it for sure. Tuners option FTW!
  19. There is an LT12 with plug in adaptor for $1100 on these forums. Install is free, cause it has the plug. Tunes for microtech are usually under $450. My full tune was $300 with a very good tuner. You are looking at $1500 all up and don't need to worry about AFM. Thats a better option, as its $300 cheaper than your first idea, also is built for 6cyls.
  20. I think that is cheap for supplied fitted and tuned. EMS are about the only computers I have heard more bad stories than good about tho. Also, if you are going the Stinger option, its not really the best way to go, as it only has 4 injector drivers. I assume they will set it up the same way they setup Microtech LT8's for 6cyls. It can be done, but its not the ECU meant for that application. If you are comparing those prices, a microtech LT8 installed and tuned would be even cheaper. Either way, I'd go for an ECU that is meant to run 6cyls.
  21. hahaha. Nice one. Was a funnier joke the first time, but still, I'll give you a medium level hahaha for effort.
  22. little bump. Its a pretty clean and reliable example. I have described stuff pretty well. Not keen to waste time on neg. or chats with people who aren't keen. Price is firm.
  23. Just remember the ONLY thing an SAFC actually does to alter anything is modify the input from the AFM to the ECU. There are many ways to skin a cat, just some better than others. "Fine" tune as you say, based on editing only ONE input parameter and not directly effecting ANY outputs, doesn't sound all that "Fine" to me. You'd be better off having the ECU remapped if you want accuracy.

  25. Nar hasn't had timing belt changed. Have a receipt for a "Major service", but it doesn't say timing belt on it. Also have receipts for clutch, machined flywheel, brakes, machined rotors, some replaced window motor or something. Has the Japanese service book with it, but I can't understand it... Seems filled out pretty well serviced always whilst over there.
