  1. Hahhaha, too funny on the incar of the chcane....Cameras just ruin any chance you have with the excuse book.....300.....200....100..... pretty easy to see.. Sadly we have suffered the CAMS chicane solution at a "hillclimb" here in Perth in the southwest. (Collie) It had an epic straight in it that the guys in the GTR's were hitting about 250-260 on. But it was dead straight and had runoff if you missed the turn at the end. No one had got hurt but it was descided it was getting too fast. Now it has two chicanes that cars constantly destroyed by cars durign runs and have to be rebiult between runs which slows the day down and cars are spinning where they once were just blasting in a staright line.... Here is the old one.....You dont get a good appreciation for the speed but allegedly its around 250....and this guy wondered why he kept braking gearboxes....
  2. ^^^ Yeah, I rate the older evos. I had an 8 MR and it was very dull. With the active centre diff and the AYC rear, you were really left wonering if it was you catching the slides etc or the tricky diffs.. made you pretty lazy as you could get away with really slack driving....go in too hot, keep it buried and pointing where you wanted to go, and the computers worked out the rest. Some mech diffs might have made a change. The TME is tops. All mech diffs with only ABS as electronic talent. (I guess like your RS) Makes for a reasonably raw driving experience. And as you say, they respond well to basic mods amd are pretty robust. Running DMS 50's on mine which I am happy with, but had I looked into it more, I may have opted for MCA or Reiger or something gucci like that. It took stages like Pelverata and Longley to appreciate that.
  3. EMO's do love the boost and run surprisingly high factory boost settings. I am not sure what you men by absolute pressure Stephen, but yeah, they do run 1.6 bar boost above atmospheric or 260kpa total boost. Big differnce fom the old rexies running about 1 bar stock. Re some of the quoted power figures, I know TMR seem to be big fans of quoting "flywheel" power figures. Either way, they dont seem to be short on power.
  4. ^^^^^ Hearing you. Was seriously tempted by an FD prior to getting the TME. Had this discussion with Snowy. We were both really tempted by a RWD car that really needed to be driven as opposed to the slightly boring AWD platforms. A mate ended up getting one and I have punted it round a bit. Was totally blown away by how neutral they are and how well they put power down out of corners....even with a T04Z and E85 pumping out over 400HP at the rears. I can see how they do well in tarmac rally in the right hands. Is definately a car still on the to do list. Have a soft spot for rotors. Ric's car ceratinly seems to be a "drive away no more to pay" prospect as a good track/targa car. From my limited tarmac rally experience, suspension is where I woudl have spent more money. Cant go too far wrong with 3 way adjustable proflex.
  5. ^^^^ Having a decently powerful RWD car that will paint lines everywhere does have a fair bit of appeal to me and my inner bogan. I recall getting bailed up in the gents at a pub in Mansfield at THC by a local proudly displaying his outer bogan and thanking me profusely for being there and how much he loved his "bombadores", tyre smoke and the sound of a V8. Thankfully I wasnt wearing anything identifying me to driving an EMO.
  6. ^^^ I am hearing you.... I am sure most have seen it, but here is a link to a guy punting an E30 M3. Seriously lacks commitment though......
  7. ^^^^ Fair call Ben. I cant think of anything that would touch the EMO's in 4WD showroom within the price constraints, and to be honest I have no motivation/finances to even consider building another car, let alone the fact that I am sure th missus employer wouldnt be excited about it. I am happy in EM. Its the most affordable class for me. I am sure the there are better cars out there for the class, the EMO VII for example would be a better car with the active centre diff, and if budget wasnt an issue, a really well sorted N1 34 I imagine woudl be a good thing along with a 996TT porka. But the EMO is a fun car to drive and relatively free from electronic talent (only has ABS) so has a nice raw feel to it, and its one I can afford to fix when I break it.
  8. Snowy, dont go soft. Your 34 is a good thing. No point stopping now. Just join some of your other GTR cheater mates and go find some obscure jap tuning house off its head spec car and build it to that spec ...argh shit....am I on the skyline forum??? ....thought I was chatting to my EMO mates....... as you were..... Although that said, the missus is getting a golf R as a company car. Wonder if they will mind us chucking a cage in it?? Would it be a chance in showroom AWD? From our end, the car has been shipped to Melbourne and we follow it there next weekend and get straight on the ferry... have also recruited a Tassie local with a few clues to provide service who is happy to be paid in Bourbon Gonna live the targa dream once but i reckon its the last I will be seen on the east for a while... Is a pretty expensive exercise comign all the way from Perth... pretty expensove exercise being a tassie local too I expect...
  9. ^^^^ Love it. I reckon Matt could do a great cartman voice for you too!! Will definately be incoprporating some randomness for TT to lighten things up a little.
  10. Yep, got that, just wondering about the relevance to the corner on the notes....
  11. Ron Jeremy = hairy fooker????
  12. I did some stripped doors (evo) for track stuff here in WA and if you can get to them, you basically drill out the spot welds and then give em a bit of a bash and they come out. But to be honest they dont weight very much . (4kg at most in an evo) For the tarmac rally car, as has Snowy, I left them in. I hope I never need em, but am happy to lug them around just in case.
  13. If it s anything like the old Dutton rally Stuff (which I am guessing it is) you are generally restricted to one set of tyres. And this is normally enough anyway. Other ususal stuff... Brakes bled. (Hi temp fluid) Plenty of meat on the pads. (Decent track pads) Fresh fluids. Depending how excited you get about launching, make sure your clutch isnt on its last legs. If there is motorkhanas and you are proficient at hand brake turns, make sure your handbrake is up to the task. That should do it.
  14. Adam sent some pics through. The problem seems that rather than "rolling" the guards and maybe getting rid of any lip protruding back into the wheel arch, Adams are more what I would call "pumped" The arch has actually been dragged out a bit. Hats off to him though for asking the question up front, although it sounds like he needs to as once you do as well as he is at the moment, sadly a few seem to assume its got nothing to do with talent and all to do with an ineligible car. He is a bit stuck as it is a little hard to undo the work, especially on the rear guard. With EM you can go up 2" in either direction on wheels. Not sure what the IV came out with but he had got the nod to run the 18 x 8.5's he was planning to run. Unfortunately the IV unlike the V and VI didnt get the plastic wheel arch extensions on the rear and wider front guards so he has come unstuck on body clearance. The VI will swallow 9's no problem. Given the rules, personally I am contemaplating some 19 x 9.5's for the evo and maybe drop it on its guts. Its all about the look right??
  15. If they were he A048 yokies, they were rubbish cmpared to the RE55 and Dunlop at the time from my observations. Dunlop always seemed to be the tyre of choice. Although the new 050 seems to have bridged the gap and is a fast tyre and seems, from what Snowy has said, to be able to go the distance, especially if you get the odd wet day. I will be punting on a set of M yokies getting me through at leats 4 days.
  16. ^^^^^ I agree Ben. I reckon a car with good pace does make your life easier and will allow you to make up easy time, but from my very limited experience, it is sooooo much more about the crew in it and how it is setup. I reckon my car might have a bit of pace over the Newton/Lemish car (although my setup is pooh compared to his according to Snowy who has driven both cars) , but those guys just drive the wheels off theirs, totally commit to the course, and stay on the road and finish. Just makes their effort all the more impressive in my mind in that it definately wasnt some advantage they had from superior firepower. My car is far from a big budget racer (under 45k as it is) but has the possibility to be remotely competitive in EM. All power to the guys that can afford the absolute rocket ship cars like a bombed 33-34 GTR or a 996TT, its going to make results come a little easier, but that said, they dont steer themselves, you are still going to have to be able to pedal to get to the pointy end. Probably the only thing I woudl improve on my car is suspension. Have a much better appreciation for how important it is after THC. Although that will wait for now as I reckon the main improvment for me is the nut behind the wheel. Definately time to be made up using the notes smarter and commiting when it is safe to do so. Have heaps to learn. TT will be interesting. Having never done one, my gut feel is it will be far more of an endurance race than the two day "sprint" format of the THC and Wrest point events with consistency and tyre conservation being as important as outright pace. Have to wait and see I guess.
  17. Didnt quite make it to the guys paddock....What about gymastic skills???? Half pike 360??...... fast forward to 2min mark.....This was my first 5 minutes of tarmac rally....hence my fairly tentative start to THC In car here if you are intyerested.... On a brighter note, given we managed to stay on the road in the most recent one, on the insistance of the missus we are looking to bite the bullet on TWP so see all those heading to Tassie for that one down there.
  18. Nope that was us. Turned out they didnt catch us during the stage, but once I had shut off after the finish and was cooling down I had a mirror full of Evo IX not long after, so I guess he cant have been far behind... Thought I woudl say gday and make sure I hadnt...woudl feel like a muppet if I had........just checked results....he picked up 25 seconds on us, so not far behind at all....farkin smoked us... Pretty soft effort from us on that stage. He only got 2 secs on us in the reverse direction on eildon.... an epic effort from him and Natasha in a showroom car. I hadnt thought I held him up, but given the final bit of that stage was pretty intense, I wasnt sure how close he had got as its hard to get your eyes off the road and on to your mirrors. I had had a glace at about 2/3rds and didnt see anything.
  19. I resemble that comment....I'm off to put on my AFI album and cut myself. You know we are all wannabe GTR drivers.....
  20. Nice to know I'm not on my own. Maybe we start a support group?
  21. If it is a Targa (Octagon) Rallys you dont need any license. They include it all in the entry fees under AASA including your personal race license and the car log book. To be honest the pre race scrutineering was almost tooo relaxed. But I guess you are a muppet if you go racing amongst the tress with an unsafe car. As far as the car goes a recognised cage is the go plus harnesses and full race suits, boots, helmet etc. with HANS and the fire resistant underwear being an option. Regards classes its roughly modern (2003 + ?) Early modern 1996 - 2002, showroom classes and then the classics which have a range of breakdowns from early and modern etc.
  22. I hate snowy cause he buys shitty tasting beer that is still in my fridge a year later. Please come back and drink it before you drink any of my nice tasting beer.
  23. I hate snowy cause he crashed my evo into a kerb and fcucked my carbon lip and alignment which in turn bollocksed a perfectly good R comp
  24. I hate snowy cause he stole my idea about driving the ring and is now doing it before me
  25. You mean his co driver did!!!
