  1. ok ok ok ok ok...... little carried away on the air jacks.
  2. All kind of academic for me as I will be out of it for a year at least, and would all come down to tyre wear. Am guessing the wear will move from the front on the EMO to the rear on the chook cooker. If it was the emo again, I would run a set of M yokies for the dry and softs (S) yokies for the wet. The EMO would have gone full distance on 4 M's last year. Only threw the 2 fresh ones on the front halfway through dayu 4 cause we could. Want to be puking down ala end of day 4 start of day 5 last year) to throw S tyres on. They would turn to marshmallows pretty quick on a dry long stage. Definitely putting airjacks in the RX7. I reckon road side V8 supercar spec tyre changes will become all the rage as the conditions change during each day.
  3. Cheers Paul. Appreciating the input. Got me thinking a 2 pedal option woudl be adequate. Nothing wrong with the factory cable operated celerator.
  4. Cheers Dan, sometimes things can sound wrong on the interwebs. The intent was deifnately not to take anything away from her drive. Have watched some of Sammys in car and you cant accuse her of not having a crack. Must have been good having Bernie in the car for some input. Didnt realise she was so strong in the wet on Sunday. Thats awesome. Wet roads are scary. A good setup definately helps, but you still have to drive the thing. Old Rex Broadbent seems to be a classic (no pun intended) at just hovering around the top 5 in the time sheets and keepign it tidy as some of the other fancied cars blaze away and then run into trouble. By the time they get to the west coast (and some rain that suits his Porsche with excellent brakes ) he generally seems to be in control. Doesnt win many stages, but seems to fairly consistently take the spoils. Not sure I am into that though. There is something to be said for blazing away (again no pun intended) and fail but be grinning from ear to ear.
  5. WOW. Goes from right to wrong in an instant. Hear what you are saying though Snowy. Setup does seem a little lively for a tarmac rally car. Lots of little slides out of corners. Hope the recovery today went well. Top job on the notes Bris. The car definately has pace. Look forward to seeing it back out there.
  6. I hadnt seriously looked at em. Although they always seem well priced out of the US. Will have a looksee... Thanks Jon. It adds up but you got some keen pricing. Will have a sniff around on the IP forum too. Surely someone has crossed this bridge before. No point reinventing the wheel. So Baw Baw sounded interesting on the weekend. Coupla casualties?? ABS failure??? *patiently waits for the incar to be uploaded* No offence here but seemed to be a bit of a Steven Bradbury by Sammy?? To finish first, first you must finish. Top effort!! Consistent driving all weekend while others in front faltered. Lesson in that I guess.
  7. Thanks Woo and Jon. Great info. I was trying to get on to the seat etc early so I can mock up the cabin once the shell is stripped and tackle any additional cutting of metal or welding in any extra metal required when we do the cage so will try to get a feel for the pedal box then. If we have to do a hung one, I guess that would be the time when the dash etc is all out. Thanks for the first hand feedback on the OBP unit Jon. I had a feeling they might have been a little flimsy and not quite up to the job but that confirms it. Had read there can be a bit of lateral flex in the pedals etc. Not ideal for something as important as brakes. :)Point taken on the Tilton as well. They dont look too badly priced until you add in the master cylinders, brake bias etc.But probabaly the best value of the decent gear. Gonna be a bit spendy but do it once do it right I guess. Thanks again for all the input fellas.
  8. Cheers Bris. I am told this is about where I will need to be. 5/8" front, 3/4" rear, 3/4" clutch. But based on the Woo's advice I might be jumping the gun a little and might need to get the rest of the shitbox built first and leave this component till seats and tiller are all in place. Thanks for the heads up Woo. Is a component I havent dealt with before. I was scratching my head a little comparing the floor mount to the firewall style mounts. As oyu said the floor looked the easiest path for mounting, but may not suit the RX7 considering I might find myself sitting pretty hard against the floor to fit in the thing. But Bris, I m always a sucker for a bargain. Let me know if you turn up anything.
  9. Anyone know much about pedal boxes? Am guessing a floor mounted jobbie would be the go for the RX7? My gut feel is tyhe usual spend as much as you can afford to applies as it is an area you dont want to cut corners on. Any experience appreciated. Seems quick research reveals you can get an OBP unit from the UK for a very reasonable price although a little googling reveals they may have their shortfalls. Dont want dodgey pedal feel and performance. http://www.obpltd.com/obp-shop/race-car-pedal-boxes/pro-race-cockpit-fit-systems/pro-race-cockpit-fit-floor-mounted/pro-race-cockpit-floor-mounted-pedal-box-obp0006prc Then there is tilton 600 series for reasonable money. http://www.tiltonracing.com/content.php?page=list2&id=8&m=b Tilton 900 series for more. http://www.tiltonracing.com/content.php?page=list2&id=399&m=b# Then AP for crack pipe money. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/pedal-box-assemblies-balance-bars/a-p-racing-floor-mounted-pedal-box-assembly
  10. ^^^ Stump it up tiger. The rules seem pretty open in classic, especially if you throw handicap out the window and go for outright classic spec. Surprising amount of latitude. I still dont think it will be any match for the trick porkas and possibly the capri pirhana (they do like water right? ) but hopefully will be a hoot to drive. Was watching some youtube footage of a HSV at Wrest Point. Wasnt the fastest thing but man he looked to be having fun.
  11. ^^^ Yep, was a story on some stoopid baby video in the UK that went viral and ended up paying for all their kids education. Have had google prompt me to "monetize" (their spelling not mine )some of the vids I have put up but I havent bothered with it. Be interesting to know the numbers. There are set ads on that vid so its definately monetized.
  12. So the capri vid has gone viral..... over 650,000 hits (or over 800,000 if you look at counter on the search page) ..... was 340 somthing when I watched it yesterday..... wonder what the "monetizing" kickback from google is on that to the author? Enough to fix the car? Not that the owner of the car will necesarily see any. Be intersting if a deal was struck in that regard. Seems fair.
  13. Well picked up my first rotary engine yesteerday. Gonna start collecting them. Apparently you need a few of these things to get through an event?
  14. Thanks Woo. King of random. Theres 2 mins and 10secs of my life gone that I will never get back....
  15. Certainly hurts the guys in the west running to CAMS regs. I expect those partiuclar regs will start to look much more like the Octagon regs soon enough. Certainly makes sense to have some consistency and really it will have to be a case of follow Octagons lead as they have the jewel in the tarmac rally crown.
  16. I heard a mumble after prolgue (said clearly loud enough for me to hear) "...well they will be pulling that one down at the end...". I begged them to test the stroke at the finish line and the scruit looked at the threatening skies and was like "....oorrr mate, it looks like rain...She'll be right..." I guess if nobody ponies up the protest money, or makes noises that they are goign to protest eh Snowy?, then its all good.
  17. Snowy, are you not listening to any of the info offered above Still, as team last m,inute you have had some epic results. And Bris, I always rated you as super hardcore. You are now about 1 step below Chuck Norris. Your inbuilt HANS device is epic.
  18. Spot on there too Woo. Once you have all the other boxes ticked, then the cheater killerwasps come into play. Fark the corners, its all about holding it flat in the straight bits.
  19. Well said Woo. Far too much emphasis put on the car and its outright power and straight line speed when considering the results achieved. Reckon a good steerer, good codriver, good notes and thorough recci along with a reliable well setup easy to manage car will net better results than sonething with a stroker and a few extra killerwasps.
  20. ^^^ Yep. Thats one scary crash. Wont be showing that to the missus. She hates water..... Testament to the quality fo the safety gear that they walk away. Apparently one of the 2 cars in the drink didnt have head restraint seats and HANS devices resulting in some neck injury. Personally woudlnt race without them.
  21. Agreed. Pretty dissapointing that shit gets flung and often the receiver is unaware of it and has no chance to defend him/herself. Seems it doesnt take more than a few people to whisper the same "story" for it to then become fact. These cars dont drive themselves. OK, evos do but......
  22. ^^^^ That is an epic effort by Eddie in what sounds like a pretty stockish car. Must have been driving the wheels off it. Seems in modern, like most classes, there is the pointy end, then the not so pointy, and then the rest. Theres no reason why a well sorted EMO VI/VII or any other car in the right hands cant run close to the front outright. A well sorted 996TT or Z Tune Replica 34GTR would go close to doing the business outrigth I would have thought.
  23. ^^^ Sounded very unmuffled. Kind of gravel rally spec. Watch this vid from about 1.45min.
  24. Was great following the event via the net.... well better than nothing at all....far worse than not being there. Top drive by Matt Close. That thing sounds a liitle bit angrier on the you tube vids than last time I heard it. Such a close battle up frtont day one. Seems YT always has a little up his wizards sleeve when he needs it. Well deserved win for Mr Rickard. Top drive and sizzling pace. Definately picked the right time to bail on EM. I thought TW would have been all over it given his past form in showroom but wasa fair way back. Good to see Scotty get the TME home in one piece and an excellent result at the same time. Will not be showing the pics of the cars heading into the drink to the missus. I think that would finish her nav careeer. Now to get theis wedding out of the way and start on the chook cooker.
  25. TWP stage results on link below. Off to a fairly predicable start. YT leading modern with Sims and Captain Fathom giving chase. Reeves also not too far away in his first outing in the chook cooker. Emo VII's of Rickard leading with Warren not too far behind in EM with O'Keefe giving chase in the datto. http://www.rallyresults.com.au/targa/TWP2012/showItineraryt.asp?paramVal1=1&paramVal2=&paramVal3=1
