Hearing ya Ben. Advice I was given very early on was don't head to Targa with anything you can't afford or risk throwing in the bush. -

Thanks Woo, Paul and Mark. Woo you make an excellent point about the extreme custom stuff. I hadn't quite considered replacing it or parts of it, especially if it was a super custom jobbie. You do kind of want off the shelf parts if possible or a good local jap importer/wrecker for your bits. The Evo was great like that. The parts for the older chassis were harder to find not impossible once you knew where to look. Am thinking now my mega custom gen 1 RX7 group C replica is a nice dream but a bad idea. Paul, a 13B powered 10a front red RX3 coupe was my first fast car. Probably do me good to drive one again to remind myself how agricultural a leaf sprung rear end with a steering box tiller was to drive heaps of fun though. Thanks again for the input fellas. Have to keep sleeping on it. -

I am suffering the same thing.. i am really trying to get excited about building an early rotor to run in classic but am finding it hard to get really excited about it. Probabaly should have just kept the evo -

Is this a joke? Like posting up a link to a video about rotors and the link being fail saying somethign about rotors themselves?? -

Bahahhaa, sorry just laughed out loud to a client on the phone when I read that. Will definately take it off line and PM you when I get closer to doing something. Dont want to pollute this thread of loving all things datsun with any more rotor talk. They have already suffered enough. -

^^^^ That would be great Mark. After having just spoken to racing beat in the US about building a motor for me I am not so sure I want to sell all my organs plus any furure unborn children to have one of their engines. I am sure they are top notch, but circa 20-25k for a rotor engine build (complete long motor with turbo etc) is a bit beyond my budget. But at the same time, happy to spend decent money to get something I hope will be reliable. Tassie is just too far to go for me to have a mechanical early on. -

^^^^^ I dont think reliable and RB26 belong in the same sentence Or maybe thats an oxy moron. But dont listen to me. I am thinking of going rotary.... Thats a whole new world of unreliability. But in reality, either engine done right can provide reliable service. -

^^^^ EMO's are ghey Snowy. Dont do it. Although as you and I would freely admit, they save you getting found out as being a hack driver. Would probabaly have to leave fritz (BMW anti crash electronic talent) switched on in the 1M to maintain the illusion. Even with good setup, I imagine it would be quite a handful. I definately prefer your idea of doing the 35 with your own twist on it. -

^^^^ Possibly!!! If you are finding the genuine factory replacement turbo hard to find, there might be an option to consider a suitable replacement be it a genuine nissan fitment from a later model nissan or an aftermarket equivalent....just sayin... Of course you would be silly to do it without consulting the organisers. -

One word.... 400R...... That thing of Davids is off its head. Watched it launch off a few stages and it hooks up and goes like stink. Apparently it burns a litre of E85 per km to do it though. Would definately be a quick circuit car too I imagine. But I am sure all that power hurts tyres as well, although snowy makes his last OK. I think similar to Snowies build of a Z tune, you can build you 33 as a 400R replica and work anywhere up to the full spec of the 400R. So you can take advantage of any turbo, cam, stroker engine and other options that model offers but not necesaroly all of them. ie. Snowy didnt bother building a stroker motor. But I think you will have to get the cosmetic side of it right and have all the right body kit. -

^^^^ Yep, I had checked them and they are light....just very retro looking.:)All the gear and no idea!!! Thats how I roll!! Re the monit, was a piece of piss to set up and calibrate. Grab a speed pulse from your ECU (plus a +ive and earth) , then have a known length of raod to drive, press one button, drive the set distance, tell it how far you just drove (couple of button presses), press one more button and job done. -

Regards the meters, I had the GPS unit that snowy had, but the missus found it was pretty laggy at high speed.....maybe I just drive faster than Snowy. Its upside was it was very easy to swap into your recci car and use to find the starts of the stages and gather some distances for your notes at recci pace....but no guarantee they would correlate at race pace. landmarks are still definately the win for that aspect of noting. We ended up fitting a monit. Nice bit of kit and well priced. (And light lol) The Rallysafe is a great bit if kit and I can imagine if it is embraced by the organisers and fully enabled, it will pretty much make the terratrip/monit redundant. -

^^^^ My gut feel on the rubber issue, was the bigger tyres gave me more rubber to wear down so hopefully longer tyre life. Made me more confidfent of getting to the end on the one set of mediums. Turned out tyre wear was definatly not an issue for me, but it is a light car with moderate linear power as opposed to the heavier GTR's and bigger HP. But for outright pace, I did do back to back testing between 235's (what most emos run) and 255's on the same day and there was two tenths of stuff all in it. I went about 0.4sec a lap quicker at best, but also had gone from worn 235's to new 255's so not sure if most of the gain was just that I had fresher rubber. Wasnt a massive improvement, but at the same time cant be a bad thing. Most forms of motorsport if given the opportunity, tend to run the biggest rubber they can. -

Hmmmm. Have to compare rotor v RB finnishing rates from targa....excluding crashes of course..... ^^^ Hearing you on the lambos. Gotta love the fact there are people out there with big enough cheque books to fund blasting through the bush in those things, and the fact that they are actually willing to do it!! -

Yeah, rotor reliability is an issue. Seems even Mazda motorsport with all their backing can struggle, but I am guessing they are asking quite a lot from theirs. I am sure there are people out there with the know how to make one last. And usual story, there is ususally a sweet spot where they will last a long time, and the tipping point where they become a grenande. I know it was mentioned, but nissan bluebird turbo??? -

^^^ Good luck with your sale Snowflakes. As said, the price seems to compare well with the other tarmac 34's, and your has all the best kit on it and is a proven performer. EMO is sold at my end. Gets picked up today. Was obviously too cheap. Time out for a little while but will probabaly follow a different path to Snowy and head to classic with something from Japan. Would love to try modern in a 35 but just dont have the wallet. I do like Stu's suggestion of the moffat spec group c 13b turbo RX7. With the freedoms of MS you should have a pretty light and powerful car on your hands. And they dont look half bad with the flares and front and rear treatment. -

Apparently there are proposed changes to ROPS spec in the pipeline now that are due to be put in place January 2012. (Think there was a CAMS bulletin recently) You will need to get your car logbooked by then if the cage is built to current specs or if you miss the date possibly find yourself having to mod the cage to make it comply. -

All this talk of new projects has tempted me to put the EMO on the market. I am asking crack pipe money for it on MY105,(39k) but if anyone is seriously intersted let me know. To your question Ben, I would have thought CAMS cage and logbooked, but I cant be sure. That said, from what I remember, if you have a CAMS certified cage, the next step to logbook the car isnt much more than filling out a form and getting it inspected by a CAMS srutineer.
